SALISBURY — Rowan-Salisbury Schools officials suspended a North Rowan High School teacher Monday while investigating an incident caught on camera where the teacher told a student he could be arrested for speaking ill of President Barack Obama.
In a nearly 10-minute YouTube video shot by a student in the classroom, Tanya Dixon-Neely, a social studies teacher, told students criticism of the president could lead to jail time.
“Do you realize that people were arrested for saying things bad about Bush?” she said of former President Bush. “Do you realize you are not supposed to slander the president?”
Dixon-Neely has been suspended with pay, according to Rowan-Salisbury School System Spokeswoman Rita Foil.
On Friday, Foil said the incident can be a learning experience.
“The Rowan-Salisbury School System expects all students and employees to be respectful in the school environment and for all teachers to maintain their professionalism in the classroom. This incident should serve as an education for all teachers to stop and reflect on their interaction with students.”
A Salisbury Post reporter went to Dixon-Neely's home for comment this morning, but no one answered the door. Calls to her number have gone unanswered and there is no answering machine.
The video went viral over the weekend and viewership jumped from about 1,000 views to more than 168,000 Monday morning.

Of course libs only want conservative critics of a liberal president arrested and prosecuted. I really believe they would do this if they had the power, ala the Soviet Union and Red China. If Obama can pack enough communists onto the supreme court it could happen.

This screeching unprofessional woman sounds like a complete illiterate.Whoever hired her in the first place should be fired.The student was more rational and informative for the other students in the class than the teacher.Perhaps he should replace her while she is on paid suspension.They would certainly learn more from him than they would from this affirmative action nincompoop.

I hope Americans are taking names that should be made examples of one day.
This woman is a complete idiot. It squarely reflects on this school system. The student is smarter than her and it offended her worship of all things Obama.
To me the most amazing thing was that the student had all of his facts right and replied very appropriately to each of her rants. It gives me hope that the young people in this country are NOT believing the communist line fed to them in schools.
Unfortunately, the kid will be marked down now as a “troublemaker” by all the teachers and administrators in the school system. Probably why his father put him in another school.

Since when are kids allowed to talk with such horrific language in school? Is this something that just happens outside of Texas? I don’t know that it’s allowed here.
My guess is the teacher uses that language. Kicks the door open right there. You notice she also cursed as well when speaking of President Bush.
Is she an affirmative action teacher? I read some of her rant but could not bring myself to watch her in the video.
