Notre Dame sues Obama Administration over HHS rule
The Washington Examiner ^ | May 21, 2012 | David Freddoso

Posted on 05/21/2012 8:26:45 AM PDT by theruleshavechanged

In 2009, President Obama delivered the commencement address at the University of Notre Dame. Now, Notre Dame is suing his administration over its insistence that Catholic schools and other institutions provide insurance coverage for sterilizations, contraceptives, and other abortifacient drugs without any meaningful opt-out for conscientious objectors.

Rev. John Jenkins, the university's president, was given much grief over his commencement invitation to President Obama in 2009. Today, he sent the following email to Notre Dame employees, announcing and explaining the lawsuit.

I agree 100%. Fr. Jenkins has done the right thing in this case. He should be congratulated and encouraged to continue on the path of doing the right thing. We want to encourage liberals to become conservatives and it does not advance that objective to rip them even right after they do the right thing, whether in a considered way or akin to the blind squirrel finding a nut.

Dear topher,

“Father Jenkins and Notre Dame eventually saw all the charges dropped against these people.”

You view things a little too optimistically. Fr. Jenkins had to be dragged kicking and screaming to do the right thing, here, and only after investigations showed evidence that Notre Dame had treated pro-ABORT protestors at Notre Dame far more favorably, giving rise to potential multi-million-dollar lawsuits against this hellhole.

The fact is that Notre Dame is an anti-Catholic institution with a vibrant Catholic minority community.

My son was accepted at Notre Dame for the coming year, but our visit there this past fall persuaded him that it isn't really much of a place for any self-respecting Catholic.

Dear Mrs. Don-o,

Folks should certainly pray for the likes of Fr. Jenkins. However, it's putting on blinders to think that he's doing the right things for the right reasons.

Regarding the treatment of the Notre Dame 88, he only relented when it looked like perhaps they'd be able to sue the university and the civil authorities for treating them worse than pro-abort protestors similarly-situated.

As for this latest kerfuffle, I'd chalk it up entirely to outside pressures. This is a fellow who thought bringing on a pro-abort political donor to the Board of Trustees was a fabulous idea. If you can make one of the governors of the university someone who is so pro-abort that she gives many thousands of dollars to the cause of abortion, it seems tedious to complain about being forced to lay out a couple of bucks for contraceptive pills.

He's just doing what he perceives he needs to do to keep his day job. After all, if he loses it, the next assignment his order gives him might not be as posh.

A sister Holy Cross run University [Saint Edwards in Austin, Texas] turned down an appearance by Obama a year after the fiasco at Notre Dame. This occurred in August 2010 -- just a year after the Obama fiasco at Notre Dame.

Article (on Freerepublic):

Catholic University Turns Down Obama Appearance Over Timing Issues

The first line of the LifeSiteNews.com article on this says it all:

St. Edward's University, a Catholic institution of higher education that shares its founder [the Holy Cross fathers] with the University of Notre Dame, has rejected a request by President Obama to give a speech at the school.

So Obama's appearance in 2009 at Notre Dame has sparked other Catholic Catholics to be very gun shy of having Obama on campus...

For them to show any kind of outrage at this POS’s administration is the height of hypocrisy.

Time for ND to EAT IT !! (You've crapped in your hat-now it's time to wear it!)

Back in September, 2011, Father Jenkins criticized Obama over the HHS mandate:

LifeSiteNews.com aritcle:

Notre Dame prez to Obama on contraception mandate: what happened to the ‘sensible approach’?

Though I agree with you that Notre Dame is far from being a good Catholic school, at least Father Jenkins has gone from giving Obama an honorary degree to criticizing him last September to now filing a lawsuit against Obama's HHS.

Good to hear that they learned a lesson, albeit the hard way.

Obama would love this thread.

NDU gave Obama an honorary degree in law. If NDU had any balls, they would revoke it publically. Which is it? Are they all those things you said?? Or do they think Obama deserves an NDU law degree?

I notice that Baptist Baylor does not suck up to Obama,,,and God appears to approve of that (at least in basketball matters). Just saying.

“He’s clearly being pushed,,,,”

Now THATS what i call a strong leader. Instead of playing tiddlywinks with this struggling wuss,, why not put a storng man of conviction in his place?

Dear topher,

Get back to me when:

1. Fr. Jenkins revokes the Kenyan anti-Christ’s Doctor of Laws degree;

2. Apologizes publicly to the Notre Dame 88 for his scurrilous, immoral and inexcusable behavior;

3. Apologizes generally to the Catholic Church and people for his anti-Catholic actions and words;

4. Purges the board of all pro-aborts;

5. Resigns and enters a monastery for the rest of his life, in dust and ashes, in rent garments, vowing perpetual silence, as an act of repentance for the blood he has shed by giving cover to the Chief Abortionist of the United States and the Catholic quislings who support him.

Until then, he's more than a day late, more than a dollar short. In fact, until then, he's a fraud.

Did they think the Scorpion wouldn’t sting them when they carried it across the river in 2008?

Did they think they could cover up the IHS, symbolizing the name of Jesus Christ, at Obama's insistence, and then receive the protection of Jesus when the demon-in-chief decided to excercise his rule over them?

Obama White House ordered coverup of religious symbols

An interesting book to read shedding light on some of Notre Dame's recent problems is    "What Happened To Notre Dame?"  -  By Charles E. Rice, Professor Emeritus of Law at the Notre Dame Law School.

One hopes that more than just the reduction of the inflow of money influenced Father Jenkins own version of "evolving perspective", (like, maybe his conscience?)

Bob Dylan is the author of the tagline I use. He also penned a line (obviously inspired by Holy Scipture)

“There ain’t no man righteous, no not one.”

It’s a good thought to keep firmly in mind - for every single human who is walking this earth.

Then there is the story of the Pharisee and the Publican.
