Bay State Democrats are standing by their woman, saying theyre confident in embattled Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren now three weeks into a persistent scandal over her claims of Native American heritage though critics say shell arrive at her partys state convention next month battered by it.
This is a race that is a dead heat, said state Democratic Party chairman John Walsh, citing a recent poll and insisting the flap has had no effect on Warrens standing as the partys front-runner. He said no one is talking about replacing her. Its not a sentiment that is out there at all.
The Democratic Party is really stuck, countered University of New Hampshire political science professor Andrew Smith. They essentially cleared the path for her as a candidate, and they cant get rid of her now. She could conceivably drop out, but I doubt that will be the case, and I doubt the party will try to push her aside.
The Warren campaign declined to comment yesterday. Warren has faced mounting criticism about her claims of minority status since they were first reported by the Herald last month. She cites family lore but has been unable to prove Cherokee ancestry, making her a butt of jokes nationally. Democrat Marisa DiFranco remains in the race, emboldened in part by Warrens inability to address the issue. We need a Democratic nominee who can define herself and not be defined by Scott Brown and the GOP machine, DiFranco told the Herald yesterday.
Smith and some Democrats say the party cant switch front-runners now its probably too late for a big name that could attract big money to jump in and gather the 10,000 signatures needed by a June 5 deadline.
Theyre in a tough spot, but theres not a lot they can do about it, Smith said.
Warren had $10.9 million as of late March to Republican U.S. Sen. Scott Browns $15 million.
Theres no one else who could get that money, Democratic pundit Lou DiNatale said. She herself was well known enough to attract that massive amount of money, so no, shes not going anywhere.
Anyone who is talking about someone waiting in the wings to take her place simply doesnt understand how the process works, Democratic strategist Michael Goldman said, citing the tight filing deadline.
But GOP strategist Todd Domke said Warren and her backers are fooling themselves if they think the minority issue will go away: In a future debate, she will be asked this question by a panelist and it will come up and she has no good answer for it, and that will be the problem.
I’m hoping this will be enough for Scott Brown to get re-elected. I don’t agree with him on everything, obviously. But he is light-years better than Kennedy was, and will be a lot better than Warren.
Fauxcohantas.
Yo, putz - she already defined herself. With lies.
And even if she WAS 1/32 Cherokee, why does that entitle her to favored positions?
I'm a purebred 6th generation Appalachian-American. do they have a checkbox for me?
Obviously the dems don’t have an issue with their candidates lying about their background, crimes committed, or foreign birth.
“This is a race that is a dead heat, said state Democratic Party chairman John Walsh”
This is ratspeak for, “The Democrat is down by as many as 4 points.” In ratspeak if the Democrat has a one point lead it’s “A lead.”(no mention of margin of error)
I cannot see how any self respecting person could vote for Warren. Of course, we are speaking about the Massachusetts electorate, so what does self-respect have to do with it?
making her a butt of jokes nationally

I think she is a descendant of Chief Sitting Bull....shit.
On this we agree. Therefore, that should apply to senator as well. Let's keep the current horse (ie, Brown).
I wonder if the former Gov. of Massachussets, Mitt Romney, will carry the State on November 6. Anybody have a clue?
This is a race that is a dead heat, said state Democratic Party chairman John Walsh.
No, it’s not a dead heat.
The Indians lead the White Sox by two and a half games.
So the Mass Democrats held a pow-wow and decided to keep Chief Slinging Bull on the ballot...
He said no one is talking about replacing her. Its not a sentiment that is out there at all.
.....Dem speak......dead squaw walking!
Doubt it. Might be closer than McCain, though.
If Mitt wins the popular vote, the electoral college of Mass has to vote for Mitt. I recall some law they passed sometime ago. I could be wrong..
Senator Lautenberg says, "Rules? Rules are for Republicans!"
No, Warren is a descendant of Chief Walking Eagle, a bird so full of cr@p it can’t even fly.
Fun to watch as this pinch-faced Yankee scold continues to wag a bony finger at her critics & at capitalism in general.
He also hosts a show about his party's candidates: "America's Least Wanted."
I think she was in that 70’s porn film, “pokinghantas”
Thanks billorites.
The Democrats in Mass aren’t Indian givers.
Considering the most recent Rasmussen poll shows Obama destroying Romney in MA by 21%... I'd estimate the chances of a Romney victory there to be less than fully optimal.
If Ward Churchill had a daughter would she look like Elizabeth Warren?
- Rush
The scandal continues to grow more legs. Now it turns out that she copied recipes word for word from Good Housekeeping and the NY Times and put them in a Indian recipe book (”Pow Wow Chow”) under her own name. Even more laughable, these recipes originated in high-end French restaurants - nothing to do with Indian food at all. Instructions for the recipes included crab meat and cooking eggs in 7-inch Teflon skillets - yeah, I’m sure the Cherokees had plenty of those lying around as well as access to crab meat!
Rush said that? LOL!
I live in Massachusetts and doubt very much that is the case. It's going to be much closer than that in November and while I'm not yet predicting Romney to win here, I think Scott Brown's chances are now excellent.
Right now the pollsters are focusing on the battleground states. I suspect the MA Rasmussen poll you are referring to was cursory at best.
Hussein has proven that LIARS win. Why change now?
Did he say “dead heat” or “dead meat” about Crock-a-jawea?
“Senator Lautenberg says, “Rules? Rules are for Republicans!””
Lautenberg is from the “Dead Man Walking Tribe”
He’s even older than A CACA and IN NO WAY, the “Dynamic Duo From Marxist Hawaii.
