Will U.S. Sovereignty Be LOST At Sea? Obama Signs U.N. Treaty That Redistributes Drilling Revenues
Forbes ^ | may 20, 2012 | Forbes OpEd

Posted on 05/20/2012 10:18:50 AM PDT by Innovative

A proposed Law of the Sea Treaty (LOST), which has been signed by President Obama but not yet ratified by Congress, will subordinate U.S. naval and drilling operations beyond 200 miles of our coast to a newly established U.N. bureaucracy. If approved, it will grant a Kingston, Jamaica-based International Seabed Authority (ISA) the power to regulate deep-sea oil exploration, seabed mining, and fishing rights.

As part of the deal, as much as 7% of U.S. government revenue that is collected from oil and gas companies operating off our coast will be forked over to ISA for redistribution to poorer, landlocked countries. This apparently is in penance for America's audacity in perpetuating prosperity yielded by our Industrial Revolution.

Like the U.N.'s Kyoto Protocol debacle that preceded it, this most recent LOST cause embodies the progressive ideal of subordinating the sovereignty of nation states to authoritarian dictates of a world body. The U.S. would have one vote out of 160 regarding where the money would go, and be obligated to hand over offshore drilling technology to any nation that wants it... for free.

LOL, I believe the Senate has co-equal power in Foreign relations and a 2/3rds vote, in the affirmative of those present is required to ratify.

I’m totally frustrated in Florida! We are dealing with Bill Nelson(D) who at this point will win another term handily because we can not come up with anyone to run against him who has enough clout or money to take him down. The GOP-e has thrown us Connie Mack(R) who is a useless playboy. George LeMiux is not horrible, but he has past baggage that turns folks off. The other guys are all nice but no gravitas. We are screwed! We need help here and fast, worst is no one is talking about it. We have to take the Senate over to make a difference in these garbage bills and treaty’s getting rejected.

People are forgetting what Obama has already gotten through the Congress.

Do we really trust Congress to turn this down?

I don’t.

In fact I don’t trust them at all.

Has one of them asked for Obama’s school records, his Social security card, His draft card? Has one of them spoken to Joe Aripaio about the counterfeit Birth Certificate. What have they done about Obama’s recess appointments. ,The EPA regulations against coal. against Obamacare.

Trust Congress to do the right thing?

Not me .

“The U.S. Navy maintains that we need LOST to guarantee free transit in dangerous waters”

I think I found the answer - Obama appointed the Sec of Navy, so he naturally supports him.

Obama Taps Mabus for Navy Secretary

“Mabus, 60, is a Democrat who served as governor from 1988 to 1992 and was President Bill Clinton’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia. A Democrat, Mabus endorsed Obama before the 2008 primary season and campaigned extensively on his behalf. “

The article seems to be a bit schizophrenic about the details. For instance, the author says that the money would go to poor, landlock nations. But then he says nations like China, Burma, Sudan, and Cuba would receive funds - and those nations are anything but landlocked. And China has the second-largest economy in the world.

They are certainly going after all the major revenue producing entities of our country....Oil and gas...and other resources...banks and colleges...and soon to be Insurance Companies...health and otherwise....then it will surely be Pensions, Ira's etc.

The destruction continues...and it's Obama and this administration hand in hand with the globalists to bring our country inot submission to the Onew World Monetary System.....

....which will not be stopped even if Romney is elected..he's a huge partner in it....we are not going to get our country back any time soon.

I think the author means that the claim is that the money would go to the poor nations, etc., when in fact it would go to China, etc.

He doesn’t have a majority in Congress to accomplish anything domestically. Hence “A Do Nothing Congress” and no budget being passed for 3 years as Barry wouldn’t sign one that wasn’t Marxist in spirit and Harry Reid approved. So no budget has passed from the Congress to the Senate without finding it tabled.

Treaties require a co-equal share of power and policy between the President and the Senate.

A 2/3rds vote of Senators present affirming the treaty is required for ratification.

I think the novelty of the first black presidency has worn off and the reality of his ineptness has appeared to the most ignorant, the last days of Obama are on the horizon.
At this point it's about damage control and how the GOP goes about it.

The Obama Administration will administratively implement the treaty through E.O.s and directives. He is already implementing Agenda 21 through his unconstitutional Ocean Policy:

http://www.whitehouse.gov/files/documents/2010stewardship-eo.pdf

adopts recommendations: http://www.whitehouse.gov/files/documents/OPTF_FinalRecs.pdf

George Mannina’s testimony http://naturalresources.house.gov/UploadedFiles/ManninaTestimony03.22.12.pdf before the Subcommittee on Fisheries, Wildlife, Oceans, and Insular Affairs Oversight Hearing on “Empty Hooks: The National Ocean Policy is the Latest Threat to Access for Recreational and Commercial Fishermen” March 22, 2012 testimony on Executive orders violating the separation of powers set forth in the U.S. Constitution. watch hearing webcast http://resources.edgeboss.net/wmedia/resources/112/2012_03_22_fwoia.wvx at 27:13-32:25, 40:50-44:11, (Rep. Duncan 1:01:19-1:05:47); 1:07:30-1:11:07; 1:29:46-1:34:30; 1:34:40-1:36:36;

This President is not playing by the Constitutional playbook. He has rendered Congress irrelevant. They are so blocked with partisanship, they cannot pass laws to correct the Administrative orders and initiatives. All they can do is try and halt the budget allocations - of no use if the agencies shift over funds from other programs.

Obama is not inept, he is actively working to destroy the US.
