John Cornyn wants to know if ICE agent was victim of ‘Texas-based operation similar to Fast and Furious’

Texas Sen. John Cornyn said Wednesday that he wants to know whether murdered Immigrations & Customs Enforcement agent Jaime Zapata “was a victim of a second Texas-based gun-walking operation similar to Fast and Furious.”

Julian Zapata Espinoza, known as “El Piolin” or “Tweety Bird,” was extradited from Mexico and is being held in the United States to face murder charges.

Operation Fast and Furious is the ill-fated Obama administration gun-sales sting that is the target of congressional hearings. Border Patrol agent Brian Terry was killed with weapons that went to Mexico and were traced under Fast and Furious.

“No such connection has yet been made in the death of Jaime Zapata,” Cornyn said on a conference call with Texas reporters. “But more than a year later the Zapata family has received almost no answers from Attorney General [Eric] Holder or his Justice Department whether he [Zapata] was a victim of a second Texas-based gun-walking operation similar to Fast and Furious.”...

Of COURSE they’re threatening him with murder charges:

THIS is the guy who spilled the beans about Obama having made a secret, “intel for no busts”-deal with the Sinaloa Cartel.

Oh..his DAD is head of that cartel, m’kay?

SO THIS MAKES SENSE.

Wondering for votes, and right on time. This is Cornyn’s MO.

All silent on all things all the time because after all he is a committee chairman and can’t speak to the minions for the sake of some nefarious reasoning that keeps him in power with his Establishment pals, as he is trying busiliy to get moderates elected over conservatives and then BOOM, here he is, the voice of the people, the man of the cause.

The useful idiots among TX voters fall for it. EVERY. TIME.

Gad.

Yes, I know. You’re right. But Cornyn has been catching heck in Texas for being out of sight, out of mind, but for quietly advancing candidates with (R’s) behind there names. ( So long as they are moderate to liberal R’s, that is. )

It’s election time in Texas, if you get my drift. But, yes you’re right that Cornyn himself is not up this cycle.

Thanks, lest I confused others. :)

“No such connection has yet been made in the death of Jaime Zapata,” Cornyn said on a conference call with Texas reporters.

Not very well informed is he?

Armored SUV could not protect U.S. agents in Mexico

U.S. investigators recovered one of the military-style semi-automatic weapons used in the attack that killed Zapata.

The gun came from Texas.

Ballistic testing of spent shell casings and the raising of an obliterated serial number revealed the weapon was a popular Romanian-made AK-47 knockoff purchased at J&J’s Pawn Shop in Beaumont, smuggled south to the Zetas by a methamphetamine trafficker named Manuel Gomez Barba, a U.S. citizen.

----------------------------------------

‘Gunwalker’ Deepens: Agent Zapata Killed By Gun From … Texas?

Regardless of the other details of the ambush, what is known is that these two agents were shot at point-blank range by a gunman armed with a weapon that had been purchased in a gun store in the United States. Agent Zapata’s death is commonly accepted as the second U.S. fatality related to “Operation Fast and Furious.”

But that isn’t entirely true.

The weapon used to shoot these agents was not sold in the Phoenix, Arizona, area that was the hub of Operation “Fast and Furious,” also known as Gunwalker, which allowed gunrunners to acquire the gun that was used to murder Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry in December. Instead, one of the weapons used to shoot these two ICE agents came from Lancaster, Texas, a suburb of Dallas.

Brothers Otilio and Ranferi Osorio and their neighbor Kevin Morrison were arrested in Texas after Zapata’s death, but only after ATF and DEA agents had organized a transfer of some 40 weapons in November. It was one of those rifles that was traced back to Agent Zapata’s murder.

Cornyn is also completely wrong about no connection made to ATF operations. (see post#9) It begs the question; is he just ignorant or is he deliberately covering for the 0bama administration?

I know. I am so ready to kick these guys to the curb, all the RINO socialists and the RINO juniors like Cornyn, caught climbing the DC ladder complicit in moving the party to the LEFT. Too smart for his own good, they can use him. He is obliges too much, in exchange for gathering beltway influence and more coveted appointments.

Dang it!

I thought an armored SUV was supposed to protect against small arms fire. Armored piercing ammo?

The problem was that the door locks automatically unlock when the transmission is put in park. A feature of that model vehicle they overlooked.

///////////

Well said: My sentiments exactly. I usually envision Sen Clownyn hiding under his desk in Washington — or behind the curtains in his office, so preternaturally silent is he on virtually all issues.

This Texan is no longer fooled: Clownyn will be primaried next time, and he is going the way of Lugar, if I have anything to say about it.

Clownyn is very weak on the internal Muslim threat. He wrote me a mealy-mouthed letter about wanting to be “balanced.”

“Balanced?” When it comes to dealing with your sworn (by them) enemies?

Cornyn has been completely co-opted by the Washington establishment.

And, yet, at the Republican state convention in 2008, he had the gall to tell the audience something to the effect that “happiness is Washington [DC] in the rear-view mirror.”

A.) When is the last time he DROVE from Washington to Texas, and

B.) Why does he “blend in” with the DC flora and fauna so well, if he is such an “outsider.”

No longer fooled!

Cornyn does have a silver tongue and there are a multitude of suckers to be blinded by the glare, so he needs a heavy weight opponent. I too hope to see him cratered. Tea Party needs to get cracking early against him.

There are a few like us who us can read a record, that’s for sure.

Same for Romney. I am unafraid of Obama 2.0 if it means we explode the socialist GOPE, remake our party and defend the Republic. How date they field a self proclaimed Progressive with a record to prove it!
Not rewarding that here.

No Romney, no way, no how.
