RNC protest rules gain Tampa City Council approval (CCW okay, urine pistols a no-no)
Tampa Bay - St. Petersburg Times ^ | May 18, 2011 | Richard Danielson

...........................The ordinance also will ban weapons, except for concealed firearms carried with a permit, in the Event Zone, which covers downtown north to Interstate 275 and Interstate 4, Ybor City, the northern part of Harbour Island and an area across the Hillsborough River that includes the University of Tampa.

City officials wanted to restrict the carrying of concealed firearms inside the Event Zone, but a 2011 Florida law prohibits them from passing any local regulation of guns or ammunition.

Two weeks ago, Mayor Bob Buckhorn asked Gov. Rick Scott to issue an executive order that would allow the city to ban concealed firearms in the zone. Within hours, Scott rejected the idea as excessive and an unconstitutional violation of the Second Amendment.

As a result, city officials complain that they will ban water pistols — which protesters in other cities have filled with urine — but cannot prohibit real firearms carried with a concealed weapons permit.................

Water pistols loaded with urine? I might be agreeable to a ban on water pistols under this condition.

Dear 'city officials',

If some low-life, scum-bag commie, protesting union thug, RAT, (yes that's all redundant) squirted me with urine from a water pistol, that maggot better pray (to Stalin I guess?) I don't have my gun on me.

As in case you don't know, 'city officials', ALL bodily fluids are now categorized as Bio-Hazards. At least that's what the sign says in the Lab I go to for my blood work (and 'other') testing. And brainiacs, there's scores of other dangerous household liquids these maggots could put in their 'harmless' water pistols -- say Bleach or Drain Cleaner. How would you like to get some of THAT sprayed into your eyes, huh?, ya asshats!

Thank you.
(now go back to sleep, you're voting on another STOO-PID useless law in twenty minutes.)

As far as I’m concerned, if anyone shot and hit me with a urine stream from a squirt gun, I’d take it just like I would as a shot fired from a real weapon because of the bio-hazard potential, and I’d shoot back with a real slug.

For the life of me, I can’t see why the RNC wants to have a convention in Tampa, the liberal cesspool that welcomes the HQ of CAIR in its midst.

There is a wellspring of people with nothing to do except protest - especially after they get some “walking around” money

"The ordinance also will ban weapons, except for concealed firearms carried with a permit"

It's a freedom thing. These lefties are hurting themselves trying to wrap their brains around it.

The reason for the seeming paradox here, unstated, is that something like a water pistol is more likely to be used since it is relatively harmless; as the lethality of a particular measure increases, people's inclination to employ it decreases.

Not to mention the mischief they could do to the electric service. Tampa in summer with no A/C...imagine how fast that would clear the room. I hope they are prepared for such mischief. Even a threat of contamination of food or water would cause closures, shutdowns, shutoffs, and serious economic consequences.

Liberals, like other demons, enjoy mayhem.

Water pistols loaded with urine? I might be agreeable to a ban on water pistols under this condition.

And that's how they whittle away at our rights - by making a special law because someone could do bad with it, all of it needs to be banned.
Note that the real complaint is that they can ban the squirt guns, but can't ban real firearms.

The more folks agree with this insanity of banning something because it could be used for no good, the deeper they dig into our rights. What they really ought to do is make it clear that if someone squirts another person with urine, or any other harmful material, the person being squirted can consider it a potentially lethal assaul and react with deadly force. THAT would solve the problem and be more in line with Constituttional rights than banning the squirt guns...

How about Holy water filled squirt guns?

How about filling the sprinkler and fire suppression systems with Holy water and turning them on when they'd have the greatest coverage?

That should set a productive tone for the festivities.

ROFL!

It is ALREADY ILLEGAL to carry a concealed firearm without a permit in Florida!

These people are stupid, ain't they?

They actually THINK laws constrain criminals? And that more laws constrain them more?

These people are stupid if they think that.

And I already see people on this thread agreeing that "banning" a thing prevents its presence.

That is erroneous thinking, and conservatives should know better than that.

Logistically, the RNC is gonna be a disaster. Downtown Tampa is very compact...the regular rush hour traffic gridlock is already rated among the worst in the country. With all the street closing they are planning, and the demonstrations...best to stay asd far away as possible..

One thing about this. Florida law says:
790.06 License to carry concealed weapon or firearm.--

(1) The Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is authorized to issue licenses to carry concealed weapons or concealed firearms to persons qualified as provided in this section. Each such license must bear a color photograph of the licensee. For the purposes of this section, concealed weapons or concealed firearms are defined as a handgun, electronic weapon or device, tear gas gun, knife, or billie, but the term does not include a machine gun as defined in s. 790.001(9). Such licenses shall be valid throughout the state for a period of 5 years from the date of issuance. Any person in compliance with the terms of such license may carry a concealed weapon or concealed firearm notwithstanding the provisions of s. 790.01. The licensee must carry the license, together with valid identification, at all times in which the licensee is in actual possession of a concealed weapon or firearm and must display both the license and proper identification upon demand by a law enforcement officer. Violations of the provisions of this subsection shall constitute a noncriminal violation with a penalty of $25, payable to the clerk of the court.

Florida CCW holders are allowed to carry knives, tasers, pepper spray, etc, under their CCW, but if they are caught doing so into the event area, the city cops may arrest them.
