Very close. As the GOP needs new young blood I was hoping Bruning would end up being a star but the more I read about him the less I liked him. But we can’t afford to lose that seat, especially to someone like Kerrey. Looks like Stenberg is out so if anyone beats Bruning it will be Fischer. Will she be favored in the general election? I sure hope so.

Douglas County now has 184/185 precincts in, so it is practically done.
And Fischer now has a very slight overall lead with 908/1785 precincts counted.
Nope, no run off for this Nebraska race. Whoever gets the most votes wins.

Good point. Douglas County is Jon Bruning’s home base. The counties that haven’t reported are mostly areas where Deb Fischer is strong. I’m confident now.

More than twice as many votes cast in the GOP Senate primary. Looks good, though the Dem race wasn’t as hotly contested I guess. Speaking of the Dems I think that Chuck Hassebrook guy really got treated badly, especially after Kerrey told him he would not run, and that he would support Hassebrook! Then days later Kerrey changed his mind. Shows he can’t keep his word.
Deb Fischer seems to be pulling away now. Could be quite a victory for Tea Party forces. I just hope she is strong for the general election.
HUGE kudos to Sarah Palin if Fischer pulls this out. The polls DRAMATICALLY turned around 2 days after her endorsement.

Yeah - I just noticed that, too. What does that mean? How can a precinct report but the votes not yet be counted?

Meanwhile with 1095/1785 precincts in Deb Fischer leads by 3200 votes!
That graph clearly refers to overall turnout. The 1,136,402 must mean the # of registered voters. The entire state only has a population of 1.8 million. Don't expect that to get above say 50% tonight.
It’s still very close with over 60% reporting, but momentum seems to be on Fischer’s side. She currently leads by about 3,200 votes (2.5%).
Another page on SOS site confirms 1,136,402 is indeed the number of registered voters. So the % listed by it is a turnout measure.
None of Omaha’s precincts have reported yet though. Last I checked half of Lincoln’s were in. Those are Sodom and Gomorrah; it’s always a question of whether the rural folks can muster enough votes to neutralize those 2 cities.
I was encouraged, though, that my county (Saline) went for Fischer. This county is largely democrats but at least it seems the R’s that ARE here have seen past Bruning.
Could be a long night. I sure hope she can pull it off.

With 66% in Fischer has close to 50,000 votes in the GOP primary while Kerrey has only 42,000 in the Demo race. Now it looks like 3 times as many votes were cast in the Republican primary so that is a good sign.

She polls way ahead of Kerrey in preliminary polls. It should be a cake walk for her if she wins the primary. And you guys are right—big kudos for Palin for this one. It’s still early, but I’m beginning to feel better about this race now.
