Whether it was a flip-flop, or an evolution, or a change of view, President Obama is the first sitting president to endorse same-sex marriage. Coincidentally, the same week the president announced this change, Cyndi Lauper, one of the biggest activists for gay and lesbian rights in the entertainment community was in town. Lauper came to D.C. to receive an award for her work to end LGBT -- lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender -- youth homelessness. Hearing the president's support for same-sex marriage, she said, felt extraordinary.

"I've never been so proud of a president before, I'm so proud to be American," Lauper said.

How very non-PC of you.

I think that it's an unwritten rule that women - upon hearing the song - need to raise their hands in an upwards fist and sing along as loudly as possible.

Well, true enough. But I was trying to think of female pop artists from that era.

You'd likely need to narrow the catagory down by decade, and maybe even genre. Otherwise, we could be here all night.

Personally, my vote would go to "MMM MMMM MMM MMM" by the Crash Test Dummies. I couldn't escape that song when I was in college. It was everywhere. We could use it to torture Gitmo prisoners, except that extended waterboarding sessions would be more humane.

I dunno about any Pop music after 2000 or so. It all started sounding the same, or the same as what I listened to when I was younger.

About a million years ago, Mrs WBill saw her in concert. In one of her outfit changes, Lauper was wearing either a short skirt or a wide belt... it was hard to tell.

Anyway, with a seat up near the front of the stage, my lovely wife commented that it was hard for her (and several hundred others, I'm sure) not to notice that Ms. Lauper wasn't wearing underwear.

My wife knows a lot more, now, about Cyndi Lauper than she'd really like to know.
