Conservative commentator Rush Limbaugh was inducted into the Hall of Famous Missourians on Monday during a secretive ceremony in the state Capitol as police stood guard to keep out any uninvited political opponents of the sometimes divisive radio show host.
Limbaugh, a native of Cape Girardeau in southeast Missouri, addressed a crowd of more than 100 Republicans during a closed-door event in the Missouri House chamber. Speaking from the chamber's dais, he thanked his family for their support throughout his career, denounced liberals and Democrats as "deranged," then helped lift a black curtain off a bronze bust of himself, which he hugged _ head to head _ for photographs.
The timing of the ceremony was kept secret until shortly before it occurred, and then only Republican lawmakers, other invited guests and the media were allowed into the chamber to watch _ an attempt to avoid any public disruption after Limbaugh's selection was criticized by Democrats, some women's groups and other political foes.
Limbaugh, 61, arranged for a guest host to handle his radio show Monday so he could be at the Missouri Capitol. He repeatedly declared how humbled he was by the honor.
"I'm stunned. I'm not speechless, but close to it," Limbaugh said to the laughter of the friendly crowd. "I'm literally quite unable to comprehend what's happening to me today."

I can’t forgive him for that.
I cannot listen to Davis. He doesn’t have a bright mind, he asks all kinds of stupid questions then quickly answers them, as if that is brilliant.
Not so much.
I only caught 20 minutes of the Show today during lunch sitting in my car. I think Barney Frank would have made a better guest host.

He was my favorite, then Mark Styne. I can take or leave Mark Davis or Mark Belling, but the worst is Walter Williams. Very nice man, but way too chatty for my taste.

Me neither. Mark Davis is the absolute worst.
My husband (and most FReepers) agrees - he also was looking forward to hearing Rush spout off today about the weekend's events. Instead we're "treated" to Mark Davis, who sounds vaguely gay (or maybe he just has a smarmy voice) talk in circles for 3 hours. He wastes more air time talking about nothing - and about himself and his "feelings" - than any other talk show host I've ever heard, and I've heard hundreds of 'em over many years.
There are hundreds of non-nationally syndicated conservative radio talk show hosts in the US today who would be FAR better subbing for Rush than Davis. Why Rush continues to torture us with Mark Davis, I'll never understand.
