When Coun. Josh Colle said last week that banning the Sportsmen’s Show from Exhibition Place is how white downtowners pretend they’re addressing urban gun crime, he hinted at an even more disturbing truth.
Colle was slamming left-wing Coun. Gord Perks, who was trying to guilt-trip city council into keeping the Sportsmen’s Show, which promotes traditional outdoor activities like hunting, fishing and camping, out of Exhibiton Place.
Perks’ painfully self-righteous and utterly bizarre logic, which failed to carry the day, was that this would be a continuing moral statement by council against the gun crime that plagues communities like Jane Finch and Lawrence Heights.
Basically, it’s an idiotic argument.
Colle, whose ward includes Lawrence Heights, where shootings in which blacks are both the perpetrators and victims are all too common, noted it’s true Toronto has a serious gun problem.
But that debating whether the Sportsmen’s Show should be at the Ex or the provincially-owned Metro Convention Centre, where the previous David Miller regime banished it in 2010 after 62 years at the Ex, is irrelevant to addressing that problem.
Then Colle launched a zinger which reduced Perks to mouthing obscenities, noting communities like Lawrence Heights, “see this as a debate that makes downtown, I hate to say it, white people, feel better that they’ve done something, when they are suffering from this gun violence day after day.”
Indeed, the left’s answer to violent urban street crime is always things like banning the Sportsmen’s Show, more basketball courts and long-gun registration.
But seldom anything about the need for a greater police presence in these communities and tougher bail provisions and sentencing for gun crimes, which are as necessary for an effective crime reduction strategy as is more and better-targeted social spending.
But the deeper problem, shared by whites on all sides of the political spectrum, is that as long as it’s just black people killing each other, we don’t really care.
It’s always been that way in Toronto.
If white kids were gunning each other down in Rosedale, Forest Hill, Leaside or North Toronto, we’d be sending in the army.
Ditto if the violence by black urban street gangs was regularly spilling out into those communities and killing innocent people in them.
In fact, when this kind of crime does occasionally reach out beyond the borders of what we euphemistically call “vulnerable communities” to take the lives of innocent young people we identify with, like Jane Creba at Yonge and Dundas on Boxing Day, 2005, or Georgina (Vivi) Leimonis at the Just Desserts Café in the Annex in 1994, then we go berserk.
Otherwise, not so much, because we believe it’s just black gangsters murdering, wounding and intimidating each other over drugs and turf.
The problem is while these thugs are fighting each other, they’re also terrorizing the vast majority of law-abiding blacks who live in places like Jane Finch and Lawrence Heights.
Want to know why it’s so hard to get black people in these neighbourhoods to testify against the gangs?
Imagine you have information about one of these thugs which could help the police convict him of a serious crime.
Then you get a visit at home from one of his fellow gang members, who lives in your apartment complex and who has known you since you were both kids, warning you if you say anything, he’ll kill your little brother. Still feeling brave?
So, good for Josh Colle for calling out Gord Perks for being an idiot.
But the rest of us need to realize that while Toronto is a relatively safe city if you’re white and living in a middle-class community, it can very quickly turn into a shooting gallery if you’re poor and black and living in neighbourhoods like Lawrence Heights and Jane Finch.
Until we admit that, and act on it, nothing will change.
It’s not that whites don’t care, it’s that they are called racists whenever they try to solve the problem. But being the subject of attacks makes a racial charge less frightening.
Isn’t it strange that the story states that black are killing blacks and yet they blame it on whites.
Like it’s the fault of whites that this is allowed to continue.
Where are all of the blacks? They are out screaming that too many blacks are in prison now. They never ask why they are there.
I don’t generally think of Canadians as stupid. Naive maybe, too liberal, maybe, but not stupid.
But how stupid is it, really, to think that some outdoor sports expo (even if there is all type of weaponry on hand there, like, hey cross bows! And regular bows, I bet they are going to get more popular since “The Hunger Games”) has anything, anything at all, to do with urban gun violence.
I can’t imagine even the biggest anti-gun lefty in America even thinking up such an argument.
Sure, they’ll say: you shouldn’t have this show because hunting is bad. But they won’t say: this shows a lack of concern about inner city gun crime.
And, btw, I think the problem isn’t that white people don’t care when blacks kill each other, it’s that the whites in the MSM and black “leaders” don’t care.
I've long said that to reduce crime (or at least criminals) we should para drop cases of 9MM and .25 Auto into the 'hood(s).

A few years ago when we had the highest murder rate in the country we had a visit from a Metropolitan Police Officer (London). We showed him our Coroner’s statistics and while looking at them he commented...if you didn’t have one segment of your population you wouldn’t have a murder problem.
If you look at New Orleans statistics this problem started with the Great Society and has a cycle of approximately 14 years before the next increase.
I pay attention to black-on-black crime, but I don’t know what to do about it.
I think what the Lefties are thinking is, the Sportsman Show glorifies guns and promotes gun ownership. ANYTHING that has to do with guns gets their panties in a knot. But we’re making progress, we finally got rid of that stupid Long Gun Registry.
It is the fault of white Canada and the legacy of Canadian slavery. Once off the Canadian plantations blacks went feral.

Blacks killing blacks-that’s for them to deal with-”no snitching” culture, cries of “racism” and profiling whenever LE attempts to deal with it.
We can’t even deal with the plague of interracial crime-the majority of which is black on white-for the same reasons. No, we’re too busy talking about “open season on black youths” to talk about, much less deal with, the fact that most interracial crime is, by far, black on white. If we can’t even deal with that, we certainly can’t deal with black on black crime.
Just think how all the law abiding respectable blacks must feel deep inside?

It’s not an original idea of mine (I don’t recall where I read it first) but I agree the best thing we can do about this is to somehow get the gangstas some serious range time. Then let them go at it. There would be a lot fewer innocent bystanders shot. And, I’m not being facetious.
If they wanted to address this problem, they should begin with the Guiliani method. Pick the block in the middle of the problem area, and flood it with police. Essentially force the bad guys to go elsewhere to make trouble. Arrest and give citations to anyone who misbehaves even over petty things.
This plays off a very key psychology, that such troublemakers are *very* community oriented, and if out of their ‘hood, they quickly lose their bravado. In effect, they are mostly neutralized.
They can’t stay inside for the weeks-long police occupation, as they lose their control quickly. This then gives the police an opening to talk at length with the honest citizenry, gaining useful information and establishing trust.
Importantly, once a block has been ‘cleansed’ like this, it takes a much smaller police presence to maintain its new status. So the vast number of police can then move out to the next “occupation” block.
Done in a systematic manner, it creates an intolerable situation for criminals, who are eventually pushed so far away that they have no choice but to leave the city entirely. Or go straight, which a minority of them will choose to do.
“No snitching” is the result of the government’s inability to protect anyone who tries to do it; too many people have been outright executed in front of their own homes for being witnesses to murder/drug trade/etc.
That's why these "man-bites-dog" stories like the Trayvon Martin get all the attention. And it's true that the so-called "black leaders" like Jessie and Rev'runt Al, and the liberal media only care if it's a "white-on-black" crime.
So given that blacks and liberals have so little concern for blacks victimizing blacks, why should white people care that much, aside from being alarmed at the virtual epidemic of black-on-white crime and violence that's put us on the precipice of a full-out race war?

A buddy has twin 11 or 12 year old girls. He bought them a beginner kiddee bow (or two? I’m not sure, they might share one) at Bass Pro Shop. The guy getting it told him they can’t keep them in stock since the movie came out.

Black on white violent crime, much of it racially motivated, is epidemic in the USA compared to the reverse. Not only in the USA where blacks keep beating the dead horse of slavery as an excuse, but in countries, like Canada, Ireland, UK and in Europe where they dont even consider it.
It is no accident that the safest states and communities in the USA for violent crime are those with the fewest percentage of blacks. And even in states like Iowa where they are 3 percent of the population or in Seattle where they are less than 10 percent, blacks commit violent crime on a scale often close to ten times their per capita pop.
But any attempt to honestly address racist motivation in black crime will be trumped with the Race Card, and almost all whites grovel before the Race Card.
As Eric “My People” Holder has said, on the race issue, we are a “nation of cowards”.
He is right.
But for reasons opposite of what he meant.
That being the case, it seems that black on black crime will continue to be epidemic, unless blacks themselves find a way to deal with it (since whites attempting to make any difference is put down to “profiling” and “racism”). In the meantime, my concern will continue to be the discrepancy of black on white crime, especially in view of the fact that the PC media insists on presenting it as precisely the opposite in the face of the government’s own statistics showing otherwise, and in view of the collective “white guilt” whites are subjected to in spite of those facts.
Or head to the suburbs, as has happened when places like Cabrini Green were broken up and the former residents given Section 8 vouchers. Formerly safe neighborhoods began to experience unprecedented crime and gang activity. But God forbid those formerly safe neighborhoods should forego the chance to experience their “fair share” of “diversity”, which is presumed a higher goal than the right to live in safety and peace.

Just make sure they're all black police. Any non-blacks in the ranks will simply invite the Sharpton/Jackson race-baiting crowd in, and the whole community will go into protection mode. The result will be the standard reaction of protecting black criminals & gang bangers from non-blacks, continued re-election of corrupt black politicians that rail about "racism" but do nothing to help solve the problem, and seeing the problem continue to get worse - rather than being subjected to "help" from non-blacks, which will simply be labeled as "racist."
Unless our culture changes (not seeing that ANY time soon), any possible solution will have to come from within. In the interim there's no choice but to avoid these areas, or move if they start to grow into or toward where you already live. Anything else will be "racist" and you won't win or be able to make a difference.

Normally I shrug off this sad situation having fled Toronto over fifty years ago. My adopted city stands opposite the State of Michigan. Over 400 miles away.
At first in this one particular area, which is the Jane/Finch area, the ubiquitous television cameras visited. This followed some poor young teen black lad, who had been shot to death. Large distressed women would shout at the camera this:
Where were the bowleess, the bowleess?.
I am using phonetics to indicate a dialect. For their outrage had to dump on the authority. Yet there are some innocent and deplorable crimes against law abiding blacks. Recently a night manager for Wallmart, a black man had shaken up a youth for hanging around his condo area. The youth shot him and when he gave evidence in court on recovery, the youth was released on a not proven verdict. The youth then murdered the big amiable night manager with eight days of release.
Toronto suffering from an awful fear of political correctness. I have never heard or read of any Torontonian saying that multi-culture and the Caribbean based enclaves are a blot and a tragedy. They are though.
Yet there are some deplorable crimes against innocent and law abiding blacks.

Neither do race baiting hustlers or the black community.
That was my conscious decision some years ago. When the accusation of “rayciss” became merely a way to shut down the exposition of inconvenient facts rather than a true description of someone who hates another based only on their skin, it lost all merit and all force. If I’m a “rayciss” because I believe that what is described, including by some blacks, as “black culture” is detrimental to society, then I’m a racist. The ironic thing is that even inasmuch as this culture does affect whites and others-there’s no escaping it in mass “entertainment”-it harms blacks more by multitudes.
When there are set-asides, quotas, affirmative action, dumbing-down of tests for hiring in vital positions such as LE and firefighters, dumbing-down of whole classes-when there’s not outright cheating by whole schools, such as the recent case in Atlanta-or the illiterate district principle of Detroit schools-then accusations of “racism” by those riding the race gravy train have absolutely ZERO effect anymore. It just needs more whites to open their eyes and SEE! that the emperor truly is naked.
Consider this-have you ever heard of any non-white areas-—neighborhoods, countries, continents-—needing an infusion of this highly touted “diversity”? Or, have you ever heard of “ethnic” enclaves within white countries (ie ghettos) needing a dose of “diversity” because whites are under-represented? Only where whites are th majority-however slim a majority-is this great and good goal of “diversity” the overwhelming priority. No matter how safe a majority white neighborhood is, no matter how academically well a majority-white school is doing-has a decades-long record of doing-they are still “not being all they can be” because they’re missing that magical ingredient of “diversity”-only white majority neighborhoods and schools, don’t forget.
If the quality of life or scholastic achievement suffers once this “diversity” has been inflicted, the disingenuous whites (who for the most part are sure to live in mostly homogenous gated communities themselves and send their children to majority white private schools) will look for any reason why these neighborhoods and schools have the EXACT same problems as those the newcomers left in the old schools and dwellings-because a culture doesn’t develop in a vacuum, PEOPLE make a culture and a society, and we see the same one repeated everywhere some groups live en masse.
I recently learned, which amazed me, that black youths from relatively wealthy families having two parents at home, at least one of whom is professional, STILL have lower scores on their SATs and higher crime rates than their peers in that SES, and even lower scores/higher crime rates than white males from families in lower SES. Which would make it seem that poverty is not the all-encompassing answer to these discrepancies. (This study included black males from the mostly upper-class black families in the well-to-do black enclave of Prince George’s County MD)
So what is?

in the US, we can't even talk about black crime...we can't even allude to it and black criminals can not even be described as being black for fear of being called racist....
honestly, in these circumstances, do we really care about black on black crime ????...how can we care about something that supposedly doesn't exist?
Such a glorious day of sunshine today and I was out with the family dog (a shelter dog). Getting back I did things summer wise and got on the computer late.
I not only read your carefully worded post to me, but read the article from the Toronto Sun more thoroughly. The Sun, though packed with advertisements and racy articles, tends to be conservative. Lori Goldstein makes a fair point about the pettiness of those venting their "solutions" to gun crime. She then mentions the furore over two awful deaths of innocent females in Toronto. A 15 year old girl hit in a cross-fire between gangs. She was absolutely nothing to do with any of these men and their exchange of bullets .
Three Jamaican men robbed a Toronto cafe in 1994 and then shot a young woman who was a customer. One was acquitted and then deported to Jamaica and someone shot him there four years later. The writer then castigates white society for getting upset about these two murders and lots of public outcry. The whites then giving a collective yawn about black on black murder.
This shows the fine line that even a more conservative journalist has to tread. She is unable to show just what can white people do. Millions are spent on a one day event such as the "Carribana". Staff are employed for months planning it. A disused school was refurbished and turned into a trade school for young blacks. Later it was rented out for "raves" and looked like a slum afterward.
A chilling realization has long ago come upon me. The more that is done for certain of minorities and including some blacks, the seemingly more aggressive and demanding they become. This is why whites absolutely over praise the "good guys" of these groups.
A university person recently lost their job, over a lengthy statement on the lower standards that blacks seem to attain, compared with whites. Working class myself, I would like to see more young black males get into technical trade training. Give 'em a skill.

We do everything possible to help future generational cycles to increase their amplitude. More healthcare, more food and anything else the politicians can think of.
One interesting thing in NO is the number of Black churches. If everyone attending was actually interested in Christianity I don’t think we would have any crime. Most seem to be interested in blaming Whitey, how to get more benefits and Obama politics. I’m Protestant but Black Catholics seem to be the only ones going for religious reasons.
