Israel to Search for Oil on the Golan Heights

Israel has decided to search for oil on the Golan Heights after 20 years of delay due to objections from Syria.

After Israel formally took sovereignty over the strategic area in 1980, the Petroleum Act was applied to the area, allowing for the search for oil.

If Israel were to discovere oil on the Golan Heights, Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad would undoubtedly launch an international crisis. The international community, including the United States, does not recognize Israel's sovereignty over the Golan, despite the absence of any communities in the area when it was under Syrian occupation.

The exploration licenses were suspended when the government of Prime Minister Yitzchak Rabin tried to further negotiations with Syria for a peace agreement in the 1990s. Talks reached a point that resulted in a successful massive “The People are with the Golan” campaign.

Syria has demanded sovereignty over the water-rich Golan Heights since the 1967 Six Day War. During the first term of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's government in the late 1990s, Syrian condemned reports, denied by the government, that Israel intended to allow exploration for oil. The government of Ehud Olmert conducted peace negotiations four years ago through a mediator, but no results were achieved.

Assad has occasionally offered to sign a peace treaty and resume diplomatic ties with Israel in return for a total surrender of the area, used by Syria to bombard Jewish communities on the eastern side of Lake Kinneret, known as the Sea of Galilee, before 1967.

The decision to renew oil exploration licenses was made by Infrastructures Minister Uzi Landau, a senior member of the nationalist secular Yisrael Beiteinu party.

“Syria has demanded sovereignty over the water-rich Golan Heights since the 1967 Six Day War. “

Konigsberg will get returned to Germany before that happens.

"Piece?" I think Syria wants that piece.

Let me tell you something that we Israelis have against Moses.
He took us 40 years through the desert in order to bring us to
the one spot in the Middle East that has no oil!

Now that it looks like Israel is no longer dithering over its sovereignty in the Golan, the Druze that live there will follow their religious conviction to be loyal to the country in which they live, and stop playing footsy with Syria, too.

I had read eons ago that it was shale oil and Israel had developed a mean of extracting with a cost of about $19 a barrel, I wish I could find the source.

if it is "shale" based, and with the multi-faceted technologies under the "Fracking" umbrella, once the are exported the Techno-Geeks that the Israeli's are, I am sure they will make them even better...

Don't forget they are about to become a major player in Natural Gas with their off shore find...

Oh man their enemies must have even more "envy" now :-).

I read the other day Israel is working on a super-lubricant. They can only make 750 grams of it a day ( for now ), but a apparently the additive(s) can even heal scratches in piston walls and bearings and is self cleaning.

Will this enable the "oil-less" engine that was experimented with ( and ran in US Army Trucks) during the 1980's @ TACOM in Warren MI?

Perhaps, but more importantly, I do not see such scientific advances coming out of Syria, Egypt, or Iran like this, sucks to be them...:-)...

All wisdom is contained in the Koran. If it doesn’t say it in there, it’s not worth bothering over. Mariem, sister of Moses, was also the mother of Jesus. Ishmael was put on the altar, not Isaac. All other accounts are distortions.

Arabs can survive on nothing in the dessert. Jews can make a dessert blossom, thereby disrupting the Arabs’ way of life. To survive in a blossoming former dessert, they need gobs and gobs of foreign aid. Left to their own devices, Arabs will make a dessert and call it piece, but they’ll still need gobs and gobs of foreign aid. This is all the fault of the Jooos!

I just read your personal information and admire what you've done and your feeling for Israel. My wife would move to Israel and if Obama wins reelection who knows.
