Reid On Department Of Justice Civil Rights Lawsuit Against Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio
United States Senate Democrats ^ | 5/10/12 | Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid

Posted on 05/10/2012 3:51:01 PM PDT by mdittmar

Washington, DC Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid issued the following statement after the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division announced it will file a lawsuit against Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio for civil rights violations and racial profiling. The Department of Justice found reasonable cause to believe that Arpaio’s office has engaged in a pattern or practice of constitutional rights violations, including obvious discrimination against Latino residents, unlawful retaliation against critics and discriminating against Hispanic inmates in county jails.

“I commend the Obama Administration and Assistant Attorney General Thomas Perez for their decision to file a lawsuit against Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio. For many years, Sheriff Arpaio has been operating outside of our nation’s laws. The police are supposed to protect and serve our communities, not divide them or judge them based on their appearance or how they sound.

“No one should face discrimination based on the color of their skin, their accent or any other similar characteristics. The Administration is working hard to stop the scapegoating of immigrant and Latino communities by officials like Sheriff Arpaio, but the definitive way to end this is for Congress to fix our nation’s broken immigration system. I renew my call to my Republican colleagues to join us and enact comprehensive immigration reform.”

Holder’s “Justice” dept has a bigger felon at the very top than the entire cast of the Sheriff’s jail.

Shove it up your smelly Obama, Holder.

If we really had justice in this country, you’d be sharing a cell with some of “your people”.

According to Yahoo, "The Justice Department Has Had It with Sheriff Joe".

Their quote from the DOJ suit reads “Arpaio singles out Mexicans and Latinos as different from all other immigrant groups in America,” the complaint says. “For example, Arpaio states that Latinos maintain ‘language [,] customs [and] beliefs separate from the mainstream,’ and are trying to “reconquest” American soil through migration to the United States.".

What's wrong with that? It's true.

I guess we’re in for a rotation of weekly themes. The Republicans’ “war of women”, “war on gays”, followed with “war on Hispanics”.

Which is worse...raw pandering to an interest group in an election year, or political retaliation for the citizenship/birth certificate spotlight Arpaio is shining on "O"?

Doesn't make any difference which is worse...the "regime" in washington is doing both.

I saw the video of Thomas Perez detailing the allegations against the Sheriff. My impression is that Perez is the definition of a flaming azzhole.

The video of Perez was on Fox. Perez is the dorky looking guy at the microphone. Part of the complaint was that the Sheriff’s department used the term “wetbacks” when referring to illegals. Please spare me...

Part of the complaint was that the Sheriff’s department used the term “wetbacks” when referring to illegals.

Having spent months on the border, as in I could toss a rock in the river, I can tell everyone that this is exactly how everyone that lives there refers to them.

Wets, illegals, wetbacks, etc, yeah, that is all I ever heard from folks that have the border literally for a back yard.

I spent a little over six months running border watches and NEVER heard anyone say "immigrant."

Legal or illegal.

Of course these are mere irrelevant facts and have nothing to do with a communist agenda "progressive liberal" member of the Official Little Bammy Freak Show attempting to get a few seconds of pathetic face time in the media.

Small world.

LaJeunesse, the FOX reporter, and Tom Perez went to Canisius High School together in the late 70’s.

First it was Trayvon to stir up the black base. Now it’s the gay thing to stir up the gay base, next it’s Arizona to stir up the hispanics......

And what he is finding is what many of us have known for a long, long time. American’s are mighty tolerant people, to a point. “They” can’t seem to find that point but will be dumbfounded when the powder keg finally ignites under assault from an oppressive government.

FUHR!

Harry Reid should be glad he was not born in a previous generation.

He would be picking off the tar and feathers long ago.
