CLAYTON, Mo. (KMOX) – The principal at Clayton High School has resigned after stories surfaced claiming that she created a bogus Facebook account to spy on students.
The official reason given for Dr. Louise Losos’ resignation was a “fundamental dispute concerning the appropriate use of social media”.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that Clayton students began getting friend requests from someone calling themselves “Suzy Harriston,” and many approved her without a second thought.
But then one former student became suspicious and posted online his belief that “Suzy” was, in fact, Principal Losos.
“Suzy’s” Facebook page disappeared overnight.
Losos has been on paid leave, which will continue until her resignation becomes official on June 30th.
Unless the teacher was trying to get something perverted going on, they don’t seem to have done anything “wrong”.
Being so obvious about it was dumb.

Some parents believe a heated debate over the high school administration’s decision in May 2011 to remove a popular teacher as the football coach may have fueled a sense of distrust between the principal and some students.
Physical education teacher Sam Horrell lost his coaching job after he gave strength training advice to some Clayton middle school students in violation of a Missouri State High School Activities Association rule. This spring, one year short of earning tenure with the district, his contract was not renewed on the grounds the high school did not need a third physical education teacher.
A Facebook group calling for the return of Coach Horrell drew hundreds of participants. Some parents say they wonder if the principal did not create a student identity for Facebook to be able to read the comments on the Facebook page.

They do not say why they classify her as ‘liberal’ unless it is strictly because of an on-the-record donation to Obama somewhere.
I guess the question is, did she get into any political/social issue discussion with the kids. And my best guess is ‘yes’ because I suspect (just on gut feeling) that is how one kid figured out who she really was.
Big Brother/public schools are at it again. Homeschooling students don’t have to deal with such government surveillance (that’s your cue!).
I see no reason for him to resign without knowing the nature of the postings. Your suspicions are probably right.
I know parents who have keylogged this own kids and examined their phones and computers to know what they are up do - it’s a parents right. Kids ought to act like someone “is” watching...
There have always been teachers who act inappropriately, what is new is that it’s no longer predominantly just the males.
This is just one reason I deactivated my facebook.
That, and I don’t need all my collegiate indiscretions available to future employers.
My son figured out who “Suzy” was at his school and cyber harassed “her” unmercifully.
When the called him into the office to threaten him, he blandly pointed out that “Suzy” was his imaginary friend, and one cannot harass a non-existent person.
Ooops. Red faces all around...

Fortunately no one here on FR is not who they say they are.
I hope there’s more to it because I agree with what she did (unless she went too far)
When my daughter was in Middle School, her principal did the same thing. He created an ID and was shocked at what girls would put out there. He called all the girls into a special assembly and let them know. It was a wakeup call. I personally thanked him. Socia media was just getting going at the time..and here was a man who cared enough about the kids to stay on top of the latest threats to their safety. I told my daughter she was very lucky to have a principal like him. Parents here applauded his effort.
No girl is named “Suzy” these days. That’s probably why they became suspicious.
I am not who they say I am.
I do take exception to the fact that unless children are accessing Facebook through school assets (why it wouldn't be blocked on a school network is beyond me0, it's no business of a teacher, principal, or school district what people say on their Facebook accounts.
And before anyone say something about Columbine style threats, bullying, etc; those are law enforcement and parenting issues. Creating a fake account in order to spy on students is WAY beyond the per view of what the school should be doing. If the school is going to be involved it needs to be done in the light of day.

I learned my lesson with Kirby Wilbur when he was on KVI in seattle. I really liked him but I learned to be careful about going off half cocked on “crazy” stories. In almost every case, it turned out that when you got the whole story they suddenly made sense. But he got a lot of indignant people to call in in the meantime.
And now that we have sites like khanacademy.org, public schools are on the way out.
