Trouble already: Why so many no-shows for Obama's campaign kickoff?
IBD Editorials ^ | May 7, 2012 | Andrew Malcom

WANTED: A new presidential campaign advance team that can count. Contact Obama for America headquarters in Chicago.

Of all the times to blow the political optics, it was to be the first "official" campaign event on Barack Obama's billion-dollar reelection campaign. A huge rally in Columbus, Ohio, capital of such a key state this fall that Republicans have never won the White House without it.

We say "official," of course, because Obama has never really stopped running for reelection since Aretha Franklin's last note on the Capitol steps Jan. 20, 2009. Nor has Obama let up campaigning since he announced his reelection bid more than a year ago.

So, Saturday's kickoff was to begin in Ohio and then take Air Force One to Virginia, another once-red state that Obama would like to re-snatch in 2012.

But, alas, all of the excitement that was being staged for the media was over-shadowed by the 4,000 or so empty seats in Columbus. The obvious lesson in Political Advance 101 is: Always pick a setting that's too small for the crowd you expect. Better to have some angry people clamoring to get inside from outside than the media snapping photos like the one above that screams ZZZZZZZZ.

Mitt Romney learned this lesson several weeks ago when he assembled a decent dining room crowd for his major economic speech in Detroit. But his team plopped them down in the middle of a football field in a stadium seating 70,000. Obviously, the Obama campaign isn't reading news coverage of their opponent, hopefully over-confidence.

Something of this sort happened when my father was a young man.

After sending the U.S. Army around to every nowhereville in America to kill dairy cows (including my great-grandfather's), FDR decided to conduct what was known as a "whistle stop" right here.

Nobody showed up.

When I asked my father why that was, he replied "I don't know anybody who would walk across the street to p@ss on him if he was on fire".

History repeats itself.

You can only bus and fly in so much astroturf. Photoshop in the rest.

Link to the background on that? POTUS ordering the Army to kill civillians’ cows? WTF? (I believe it - which is a bad sign - just want background.)

The liberals are saying the picture was taken three hours before the bamster showed up. A truly delusional lot they are.

FDR did stuff like this (killing cows, destroying crops, etc.) to keep the prices high on farm goods. Higher prices meant more profit to the farmers! (I’m guessing that you had to be the right kind of farmer).

A farmer also was jailed(?), fined(?) or both(?!) for feeding his own hay to his own cows. It was a violation of the Interstate Trade Agreement (or something).

He was supposed to have destroyed that hay. And it was in violation of the ITA because if he had destroyed it, then he would have bought hay from someone else, who may have been from another state.

That story comes up when folks on FR try to explain why so many rules become enacted. I think it comes up in the Obamacare discussions, and I think with the new rules on organic farming and home gardens.

I probably messed up some of the details, but that is the gist of things IIRC.

All his worshipers graduated from college and are now getting a reality education.
Or maybe now they are realizing that Obama has no intention of including reach-arounds in Obamacare.

The famous phrase was "kill the pigs and plow them under." I guess cows too, for the same purpose. To try to raise prices for farm products.

I know, but that's what they really did back then.

This is the case about the wheat farmer, the Agricultural Adjustment Act of 1938 and the federal government’s authority to regulate production not intended in any part for commerce, but wholly for consumption on the farm: Wickard v. Filburn - 317 U.S. 111 (1942)

I wish I could find a link on it. My brother-in-laws’ fammily’s pigs were killed in Tennesseee by order of FDR. My husband’s coworkers in Oklahoma told him their cows were killed on family farms in the FDR era. We tried to do some research, but all the information seems to be scrubbed.

“Everybody was at work at those wonderful high-paying green energy jobs Obama created that saved the economy!”

Sometimes Obama’s team seems to completely forget how far the media will go along with whatever they say...

Perhaps the GOP finally got smart and stole a play from the Democrat playbook and hired a couple of guys calling themselves Neighborhood Organizers. And, sent them to streets saying someone was giving away free drugs and Travon Sweat Shirts, on the OPPOSITE side of town.

Those people are very dependent ... no one sent air conditioned Grey Hound Buses (yellow school buses will not do) over to pick them up, provide lunches and heap praises on them for supporting the black guy. That campaign crew just doesn’t get it that it needs to spend some of the stash to keep the sheeple happy.

And my father who was a deputy sheriff in Houston had to stand watch as they bulldozed those cows into a large pit, making sure NO ONE would take one of them to eat.

Until the day he died, my dad hated with vengence of heart that despicable FDR.

People all over America, out of work, starving and could have no taste of that meat. As long as I live, I will continue to tell this story for my father about the great SOB FDR (barf).

My grandfather plowed under 2 bales to acre cotton. That was a damn good crop in the depression and even today. He could not harvest the crop and make a profit. If you like this you will love OBAMAONOMICS if he wins the next election.
