Attention "Anyone But Obama" (ABO) FReepers! If you go to the thread at the link you will will see that JimRob has "declared a truce" and hundreds of ABO FReepers are now vigorously defending their belief, which I share, that the ineligible Marxist Manchurian MUST BE DEFEATED to preserve the Republic...without fear of "the ZOT"! Please consider a DONATION not just to fund renewal of expression and amplification of your ABO views, but let's over-achieve this FReepathon to get JR his new equipment!

IMO, Free Republic and FReepers could be vital in swing states in rallying just enough conservatives to tip the election and prevent our troops from having to salute for even one day longer than necessary an ineligible Marxist committed to destroying the USA !

Well said, sir or madam.

...but when push comes to shove, you anti-ROmneys always fall back on these gross distortions of his actions on the hottest button issues....

Indeed, they are rather transparent. Those are tired and true tactics of Dimocrats, which makes one highly suspicious of anything posted in such a manner.

For my part, I view the anti-Romney posters with great skepticism if they signed up since the 2010 election. Even then, one could see that Romney was almost certain to be the 2012 Republican nominee so it's plausible that committed Dimocrat operatives would plant themselves in any and every conservative forum to poison the discourse even as we are seeing now.

To the Members of the Log Cabin Club of Massachusetts:

I am writing to thank the Log Cabin Club of Massachusetts for the advice and support you have given me during my campaign for the US Senate and to seek the Club’s formal endorsement of my election. The Log Cabin Club has played a vital role in reinvigorating the Republican Party in Massachusetts and your endorsement is important to me because it will provide further confirmation that my campaign and approach to government is consistent with the values and vision of government we share. I am pleased to have had an opportunity to talk with you and to meet many of you personally during your September meeting. I learned a great deal from those discussions and many thoughtful questions you posed.

As a result of our discussions and other interactions with gay and lesbian voters across the state, I am more convinced than ever before that as we seek to establish full equality for America’s gay and lesbian citizens, I will provide more effective leadership than my opponent.

I am not unaware of my opponents considerable record in the area of civil rights, or the commitment of Massachusetts voters to the principle of equality for all Americans. For some voters it might be enough for me to simply match my opponent’s record in this area. But I believe we can and must do better. If we are to achieve the goals we share, we must make equality for gays and lesbians a mainstream concern. My opponent cannot do this. I can and will.

We have discussed a number of important issues such as the Federal Employee Nondiscrimination Act (ENDA), which I have agreed to co-sponsor, and if possible broaden to include housing and credit, and the bill to create a federal panel to find ways to reduce gay and lesbian youth suicide, which I also support. One issue I want to clarify concerns President Clinton’s “don’t ask, don’t tell, don’t pursue” military policy. I believe that the Clinton compromise was a step in the right direction. I am also convinced that it is the first of a number of steps that will ultimately lead to gays and lesbians being able to serve openly and honestly in our nation’s military. That goal will only be reached when preventing discrimination against gays and lesbians is a mainstream concern, which is a goal we share.

As we begin the final phase of this campaign, I need your support more than ever. By working together, we will achieve the goals we share for Massachusetts and our nation.

Sincerely

W. Mitt Romney

That is a very good point. My suggestion would be a policy of no bashing of any religion or lack there of. Attacking some ones faith is the same as a personal attack IMHO.

Thank you. I agree with your suggestion on a personal level. It absolutely is true that when one attacks another's faith, one is, in some level, attacking that person personally. That simply can't be avoided.

I do not agree with it on a political level. Defense against personal (religious) offense is not and should not be a guarantee. As much as I would love (on a personal level) to see all the anti-Catholics here banned for all their vitriol, I would never support such an action. (hehe.....I can see some anti-Catholic quoting me saying, "I would love to see all the anti-Catholics banned here..." to support some wild eyed conspiracy theory that all Catholics want to see a return of the Inquisition, without of course quoting the latter portion of that very same sentence; I'd give it about even odds of happening should I dare attempt to return to the religious debates here in force.......< sigh > but I digress)

The reason is simple: If I support suppressing another's opinion, mine surely will be the next to be suppressed.

No, not all the same. Tibetan Buddhism of the Gelugpa Tradition is by far the best.

BTW for the sake of clarity, the original host to which the pro gay contingent on FR is referring to, is located here.

It is the bigot that has a closed mind. They are the ones that don’t understand when someone else has a different perspective. Oh, and the holier than though attitude. Thats simple, If you don’t believe the same way I do you are gonna burn in hell, and then go on to quote some part of scripture to again reinforce what they just said.

Let me be clear: I’m not saying “religious bigotry” doesn’t occur here. I’ve only said I haven’t seen it wrt Mormonism (until now when you pointed it out).

However, I still stand with my original point(s). If I may put it in more blunt terms: As a Catholic, I’ve had it happen to me (my Faith) too. I’ve decided to just suck it up.

To my Mormon FRiends, welcome to the “party”. Move on, post all the pro-Romney threads you wish (given this new truce), just be prepared to suck it up when it comes to the anti-Mormonism you KNOW will be coming. After all, IMO, it’s quite simple to shrug such stuff off, all you need to reply is (if anything) : I didn’t know we were talking about Mormonism; I thought we were talking about politics and a candidate for President.

Believe me, it won’t shut up such religious detraction (you’re going to HAVE to give the “last word” to them), but those lurkers who are reasonable will see who truly wins that “argument”. Trust me.

In the matter of JR calling a truce and giving grudging support to Romney, I believe that he is right. I can’t stand Romney, but he considers himself a Republican and if we can keep a Republican held House and displace enough senators to get a Republican Senstae then we might also have a Republican POTUS to bless any GOP passed legislation.

As for various religions being unwelcome, I can certainly condemn Islam as a hate sect. As for the others, none of them seem to want me and any non-believers in their faith dead.

My wife is Buddhist; a few weeks back I went to the Easter Services at the Buddhist Temple with her. Surprised? I’m not a Buddhist, but I have come to respect the Buddhists quite a bit.
Six years ago, a local Catholic church burned down and their congregation had no place to worship. They asked most of the other churches in the area if they could use their churches for a two hours each Sunday to keep their flock together and conduct services while they raised money to rebuild their church. Every one of the other churches and synagogs in the area turned them down. The Buddhists weren’t even asked, but offered their temple for Sunday mornings for over a year while a new church was built. The Buddhists shifted their own services to the afternoons.

“I am not voting for Romney under any circumstances. I do not care who you vote for, but please don’t attack people for refusing to vote for a leftist traitor RINO.”

The attacking has gone both ways between ABO and FUMR camps. I am not attacking the FUMR camp at all and never have. I respect the right of conscience of every citizen in making their vote.

The circular firing squad attacking of FReepers by FReepers, including JimRob himself, is requested to be suspended with a TRUCE being declared by JimRob at the linked thread. Some FReepers on this thread appear NOT to have read JR's TRUCE declaration, yet.

To me, respecting the conscience of fellow FReepers includes NOT declaring my own ABO view to be the only Biblical view and NOT declaring the voting intentions of another FReeper to be a vote “for evil.”

I will vote for the candidate who will do the LEAST DAMAGE to what is left of my precious Republic!

I am voting AGAINST the ineligible Manchurian Marxist.

God will ultimately be the judge my vote, not fellow FReepers.

On this thread, I am inviting fellow ABO FReepers in particular to return to posting FReely on FR, as allowed now by JR, and also to return to DONATING.

Already the thread is getting hijacked into a religious flame war over whose vote and whose religion is most righteous. I intended this thread to be about bringing back ABO FReepers and getting DONATIONS up to include the needed equipment so that we all, both ABO and FUMR FReepers, can have the BEST Free Republic platform for this campaign.

Please take a moment today to consider making or increasing your DONATION to FR and consider going monthly! Please?

There are a good many long-time members who are gone from this site - either of their own choosing or by expulsion. So many of them were reliable, well-reasoned posters who brought value to the forum and they helped build this place into what once was the preeminent conservative site on the web. When you engaged those people in discourse you learned something or you were given insight to a different viewpoint. And you really needed to frame your discussion accordingly, carefully. I won’t list names.

I miss that.

And then like any society I suppose, the flash mobs arrived. And discourse suffered. Remarks became more frequently hostile, judgmental and truncated. The hoodlums and gangs brought down real contributors and then danced around the corpse.

But, some of us grieved.

How about a truce involving the religious bigots that inhabit this site. I am really tired of hearing the hatred spewed concerning other beliefs if different than some of these bigots. -eastforker

Here's where he came into this thread. He asked for a truce. Where is the anger in that? He expressed that he is really tired. Where is the anger in that? How is he being shrill? What exactly did he screech? What was he intending to start?

What you stated is inaccurate, in fact, it really could not be farther from the truth. He seems calm and well reasoned to me, and what he cited exists here bigtime.

A wholly sensible position. Kennedy had to deal with the same anti-Catholic bigotry.

IMHO, Islam isn’t a religion but more of a political asperation. Just like the KKK being a religious group, it was more political than religious.

Well, let's be clear, it has nothing to do what with I believe or anyone else.....it all depends upon what God says.

But that said, one of the basic principles of Christianity is that Jesus Christ is the only way to eternal life, and that other faiths, which say different, are, by definition, not true. If one is a Christian, one believes in Christian principles, necessarily. You aren't willing to allow that, or entertain it, and you would have Christians behave as non-Christians just to satisfy YOU. So yes, your mind is closed, and in particular to Christian doctrine.
