Back around 1982 my company sold off one of its divisions and laid off about 500 employees at our Detroit plant. Within a year and a half, our workers comp. departmant received between 100 - 150 workers comp. claims......
According to the current data found on Va.gov a single person with no wife and no dependents classified at 100% service connected recieves 2,769 dollars per month in compensation. This does not include health care. That same individual because of the 100% rating is entitled to health care and dental. But don’t let that fool you.
Currently that same individual above sees an out sourced dentist at the VA’s request. The certified dentist who has been approved to do work on the vets teeth and has been paid to work on the vet’s teeth, recommends 2 crowns for the vet. Yet the VA will not pay for the crowns and denies that the vet needs the crowns.
That same VA healthcare you speak of to this very day denies that any drug has or will cause Diabetes. Even as the Vet was in the hospital being treated for it the drug companies starting April 2001 came out and said yes our anti-psytropics as a severe side effect cause the blood sugar to rise in the persons taking those drugs. The diabetes is actually a secondary condition onset by treating the primary one.
Have to ask you where in the world did you come up with the 4,000 to 7,000 dollars a month figure from?
Again, if this same person was being treated under a private insurance or under Bummercare, you’d be outraged at his treatment.
Free medical care? Yeah right since when did anyone get “free” anything in this country?
No I stated he was recieving, Social Security and therefore reciving SSD.
Really? Support of the government? Isn’t this the same thing as being reliant on the government for a paycheck like most on here disavow?
Who cares how much money someone else makes. Freepers responding to this post are ignoring the very things they hold in high regards. This individual through no fault of his own almost dies serving his counry. He recieves both a VA Disability check and a Social Security Disability check. He comes here every single day to read the posts about how since he is lumped into the group who is on Social Security Disability is told he no more than obama’s fecal excrement.
How would that make you feel?
Lets face it this guy did not seek the 100% rating. First it was recommended to him to by his pysician after years of unsuccessfully holding job after job. This individual would rather take privatized health care but can’t because being on Social Secuity Disability, you can only have Medicare unless you had and kept a health care policy before going on SSD.
You didn’t know this guy had to survive on 30% VA disability checks (at the time were like 297 dollars) while he waited for both VA decision and SSD decidion. This meant he could not take a job during that time even if he wanted to.
This vet beleives in self reliance, how humbling it must have been to have sit day after day waiting for some word on a decision. Since 1989 to the the day he got his decision he only drew 30% disability fron the VA. Durting that time he did not draw one cent from Social Security or other government service except unemployment in 2000.
How insulting and humiliated he is having to be dependent on the government for his basic necessities of life. How insulting it is to him to see him lumped in with other people and called excrement from one of the lowest people on the planet even if he is the president. This is a person who is highly patriotic loves his country hates to see where its going would take a bullet for you or me and not even blink an eye. This vet joined the military because he believed it was his duty to do so like his father, uncles and grandfathers did before him. Both grandfathers WW2 Vets.

people might hail the VA healthcare system. I understand that its a touchy subject to many and its the only one we got for our Vets, but if you want to take a close look at socialized medicin in this country, not canada or britain, I am talking America. Remove your blinders about the Vets and take a good hard look into it. How vets die in their own excrement. How a vet sees a doctor on a thursday and is in a morgue on a Monday. How a misdiagnosis almost caused this particular vet his life.
You guys do realize that if the vet sees anyone outside the VA Med Center, he has to pay for the treatment out of his own pocket? In a city there is only 1 VA medical Center but there are many hospitals. Just think if this vet has a problem has to be transported by ambulance to the closest hospital, the VA will not pay for his healthcare if they determine its not service connected. Like I said the Vet may have health care but its not free and its limited to only within the system.
There is more to his disorder than an Inner Ear problem. Although during the course of the accident the vet had 2 myrangotomies (putting a hole into the ear drum to release pressure build up behind it).
The vet was highly traumatized by the ordeal. The accident really did mess him up and those effects are felt to this day like when the paranoia strikes in about neighbors and strangers merely walking dow the street or two people holding a convo out of ear shot. Or because of the accident and he can pinpoint exactly when this began, he has auditory and visual halucinations every single day. The use of the drugs only dulls these but does not prevent them from happening.
Its more than just a “General Anxiety Disorder”.
Like I said, the vet having had numerous suicide attempts and being in and out of va hospitals has probably seen more than one “shrink”.
The point I guess to all of this is yes, the vet is actually disabled. The accident screwed him up for life.
People here fight against Bummercare and fight for the right to choose the how they get treated, who treats them and what type of medical policy they will have. They fight against the usa becoming another socialist state. People say look to Canada’s system or England’s system for examples of socialized healthcare and yet all we have to do is take a good hard look at the socialized healthcare that is already in place in America - the VA Health Care System.
You might fly a flag because you believe you are patriotic, you might hold your hand over heart when you say the pledge. However on some of our most solemn patriotic holidays the hospitals are barren except for a skeleton crew. These vets are the lost souls of America. They defended our rights, truths and liberties. Yet we fail to defend them unless it is conveneient for us to do so. Its great to support our troops, but where is the support our troops receive after they get home. Its certainly not in the hospitals on the fourth of july. Ah no people too busy picnicing seeing parades symbolicly presenting that they are in support of our troops. Hospitals are like ghost towns on the fourth and on memorial days. On Veteran’s Day Nov 11 its a fed holiday. Should we be where the vets are on that day? Nope the hospitals are like ghost towns. Except the ghosts are vets. People here fail to realize how good it feels when vets get visited in the hospital. It lets them know people still care about them that they aren’t forgotten dregs of society leeching off the every day american who goes to work everyday to pay taxes.
The onset of his condition came on because at a simulated 17,000 pressurized feet his oxygen mask did not fit properly. He felt tiny bubbles underneath his skin. Being the first into the chamber he should have been the last out of the chamber. Instead he was first out and upon exiting promptly collasped into the medics arms. He was taken to a separate room where he recieved two myringotmies. One had so much pressure build the docs noted in his chart that everyone could hear it when the eardrum was “popped like a ballon”. He then spent the next two days in ICU in the hospital and in a hyperbaric chamber. He was told he would never be able to walk again in his life. His sciatic nerve and tenth cranial nerve were damaged. He was fortunately only temporarily paralyzed but damages to the nerves were permanent. He has trouble speaking and slurs his words due to dmagae of the tenth cranial nerve. He has worked on it over the years and it is more prominent the more exhausted he becomes.
So yeah, this goes beyond a correction to the Inner Ear. However, the classification the VA gave him for his disability and the very reason he was discharged from the Navy was not because of the pralysis or the damge to his cranial nerve, it was because of Anxiety. Again a catch all diagnostic term. If I said someone had schizophrenia with auditory and visual halucinetic symptoms would you think that was Anxiety? no and neither would I, but that is the diagnosis this vet received.
It is also the diagnosis the SSD judge saw too.
This vet fought for our freedoms but yet we claim he has healthcare at 1 hospital 45 minutes away from his house when another hospital sits 5 minutes away from his house. You claim his medical expenses are paid for. I state only at that 1 hospital 45 minutes away. He has no freedom to go to that closer hospital to get medical treatment. You might say he has the freedom, but then the vet has to pay out of pocket for the treatment. The vet does not have the freedom to change his healthcare policy. Yet we claim he has free healthcare and benefits. Hey you are saying exactly what I heard from an “occupier” and the reason they are protesting but only in favor of our vets.
People who think that the VA Healthcare system is be all to end all really gets my goat. The VA health care system is nothing more than socialized medicine controlled by red tape beaurocrats. people think since this vet is 100% he is set up for life. Yet they don’t experience the daily pain and suffering that makes life unbearable. People don’t understand that this vet struggles to do even the basic necessities of life. Or have even noted the multiple suicide attempts since he got out of the service.
Its great he gets so much money a month. Its great he has benefits. Most people stop caring right about there. And that is where freepers have stopped caring about him in this thread. All because he is a disabled person on SSD with a diagnosis of Anxiety disorder.
Yes I get people abuse the system. People are people. This vet will be the first to tell you ‘off with their heads’ People will always push the system. If they can get away with it they will. But to lump every single person on SSD as bummer’s excrement was a little to far for me.

Getting 100% disability pay from the government is good pay? Depends on where you become diasabled from to be honest.
As a vet, 100% is 2769 dollars a month (www.va.gov).
His social security disability is only 902 dollars a month after medicare deduction. Social Security is determined by formula. If he was retirement age he would have received more.
The vet made more as a entry level programmer than he does now on disability. He even had beter healthcare and dental. Thats even after taxes are taken out. Thats take home money. However its because he does not have a 4 yr degre and his disability he no longer works. More disability than 4 yr degree.
I don’t blame those who are going on disability, even those who are doing it fraudulently in lieue of finding a job.
I blame the left, and especially 0bama, for making it attractive to do so.
In June of 2011 he tried to take a part time job at a local McDonald's. As a good person that he is promptly reported he was taking the job at McD’s to his SS rep. Not a month later, this individual had to go through a SS review to determine if his SSD would continue. He had to see a “shrink” outside of the VA. Before he saw the shrink he quit working at McD’s because of a breach of contract. They decided not to pay him what they agreed to pay him when he was hired. Eventually SS said the benefit could continue.
The point here is that just because you get SS does not mean you will keep SS. Every three years, a person on Social Security has to be reviewed. Social Security tells you the benefit is not a permanent benefit.
When the vet got SSD, he went before judge I believe. The Vet in his younger years has it in his medical record he “abused cocaine”.
(He tried cocaine once and before it was out of his system he tried to commit suicide and then admitted to the hospital. As part of that admittance his blood was tested for drugs and aids. They found coke in his system and the VA claimed he was a drug abuser.)
Because that being in his medical record the SS judge determined that the vet might need a conservator for his SS payments. The judge didn't take into account that the incident happened twelve years prior and not another incident happened between then and time he saw the judge.
The vet was initially turned down for SSD and had to retain a lawyer. In 2001, it was not easy to get SSD as everyone claims it is. In 2011, its still not easy to be on SSD with the SS admin reviewing your case every three years.
I know a guy in Johnson City, Tenn who got SS on the first application...bad back and heart. He got it about a year and a half ago. So, I thought it was because he did it before all the fraud started and they tightened up. He then told a guy he knows got it on the first application about 3 months ago. I’m starting to think it depends on the part of the country you’re in. The “judges” are different. And by the way, he was sent to a SS doctor for “examination”. His friend wasn’t. I’m CONVINCED that now they turn down most of the initiall applications.
I’m glad you hung on to your faith. God will always provide a way. A friend used to say “If you end up under a bridge it’s a bridge God provided.”
I live close to Knoxville. In 1985 my wife got turned down first time. She is a quadriplegic. That's pretty darn cut and dry disability. I applied for it in mid 1994 and was turned down first time. The two different SS Doctors told me that I could never work again as well as my own doctors. I did my own appeal and got it on the first appeal. I was approved in about 9 months from first filing. My cousin is terminal from a heart condition {doctors said no more by-pass they've done all they can for him}. It took him about two-two and a half years through a lawyer and got it approved two years ago on about the third or fourth appeal.
They do check my medical records now about every three years for any changes which is reasonable policy.
I had to see 2 of them, one for the arthritis and another for the back. My hand was so swollen it looked deformed, no way I could work. You are right about the judges. I hit it lucky Sen Mark Norris sent me to a former SS lawyer who knew how to work the system.
Have found a fix for that since, non traditional a simple water pill, takes all the swelling down, doesn’t stop the pain, but my hand now looks like a real hand.
