On Sunday, by almost every indication, François Hollande, who has been leading in the polls for months, will defeat Nicolas Sarkozy and become Frances next president. Hollandes Socialist Party, which hasnt ousted an incumbent president in over three decades, has every reason to celebrate. But the true winner of this election isnt Frances left; its Europes far right. The reason is simple. In this election, Frances establishment has embraced Islamophobic ideas to an unprecedented degree. Right-wing populism, once a fringe phenomenon, has been conquering the bastions of Europes political mainstream with frightening speed; even so, most observers failed to predict the extent to which anti-immigrant themes would shape this campaign. Its difficult to know whether Europes populists are approaching the zenith of their power or will continue their steady rise. But one thing is certain: At no point in Europes postwar history has the far rights influence been as pervasive as it is now. Two weeks ago, in the first round of the presidential elections, nearly one in five French voters opted for Marine Le Pen, the leader of the extremist Front National party. Marine, who replaced her father, Jean-Marie, as party leader a little over a year ago, has donned a cloak of respectability, severing the organizations ties to the most flagrant neo-Nazi and anti-Semitic groups. But the core of her appeal remains unchanged: It consists of hatred of Muslim immigrants, along with everyone else she considers alien to the French nation. Her tactic of giving racism a pretty veneer has clearly worked well. In her first run for president, she already gained a greater share of the vote than her father ever managed to muster.

What’s the cause of Islamophobia, Yascha ?
Dear Europe, Hitler and Stalin were leftists, had nothing to do with the far right. Europe get your head out of your asses.
Hatred and fear of Muslims is entirely a rational response to the Muslim campaign to conquer the world.
The pendulum swings.
The French are not waking the plain truth that they have clutched a viper to their breast. Likely LePen will be the leader of the right after the legislative elections.
Until France rids itself of Muslims, things will just get worse. Count on it.
“Hatred and fear of Muslims is entirely a rational response to the Muslim campaign to conquer the world.”
And the fact that the Muzzies did a number on Europe a couple of centuries ago.
I just wish that we would pull out all our forces in Europe and let these worthless socialist countries fend for themselves once again. They are only too happy to have us bleed our citizens to protect them all the while they are braying about what jerks we are for not living more like our protection allows them to live.
Vive Le Pen!

Look for the markets to nosedive on Monday if this leftist wins on Sunday.
France is/was an amazing country. The Mooselimb population grows, particularly in the south and in Paris. Too many years of open immigration.
Yes, those Islamophobic French, how dare they react that way when some innocent Muslim just happens to find a gun and then uses it to kill police officers and little children standing outside their school. Or when peaceful mobs of bearded men just happen to congregate together for an impromptu prayer vigil and intimidate bystanders and close down Parisian streets.
Those French. They’re just a bunch of irrational bigots.
This is more than just about Muslims. It is about mass immigration and its impact on national identity, culture, and Balkanization of a society. We face the same problem to a much greater degree.
Here’s one reason: http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/911-detainees-seek-to-disrupt-opening-of-arraignment-at-guantanamo-bay/2012/05/05/gIQAnGzh3T_story.html.
Note that the civilian woman lawyer is in a hijab and asks the other women to put on a garbage bag, too.
Le Pen is definitely right about the danger of Islamofascism, and for that she should be commended. Some of her other positions are seriously problematic but she's correct there.
The problem in a French political context is that radical Islamic fundamentalism is changing the secular and anti-religious presuppositions of the modern French Republic, and in that dispute both sides are wrong. Le Pen and the traditional conservative and liberal parties of France have correctly identified radical Islam as a major problem, but all three have come up with fundamentally wrong solutions.
It would be nice if French nationalism were returning to its Roman Catholic roots (or better yet, the Huguenots), but there are far too few people left in France who have any sense of a Christian worldview. The result is that that even when they correctly identify the problem, they come up with wrong solutions because the right solutions aren't even on their radar screens.
“Vive Le Pen!”
That’s what I thought until I learned her party is still socialist in philosophy. The only thing it has going for it is its pro-western, anti-islamist stance.
Too bad. France needs Tea Partiers!
France is already a socialist state, so electing a socialist will not solve their socio-economic problems. They cannot continue to give everybody everything they want by borrowing money, increasing taxes, and blaming somebody else (Bush?).
Has Spain's economy fared well with a socialist in charge? Socialists are good at spending someone else's money, but eventually they run out, vis-à-vis the economic collapse of Russia under communism.
The result is that that even when they correctly identify the problem, they come up with wrong solutions because the right solutions aren’t even on their radar screens.
Very well said, and very true of the USA, as well.
Since the Nazi's were socialist also, I am not sure I follow the thinking.
We agree, WestwardHo.
BTW, I noticed in a prior post you references Fort Sumner and other places in New Mexico. Are you from Fort Sumner? Many years ago I was the police, military and religion reporter for the Clovis News Journal.
Only slightly more I would guess. Look at Gert Wilder's books and speeches. I suspect if he had his way the Muslims would be deported.
No one but an uniformed fool believes that Muslims can ever live peaceably within a religious culture that is not Islamic dominated.
What Islam Isnt
By Dr. Peter Hammond
FrontPageMagazine.com | Monday, April 21, 2008
The following is adapted from Dr. Peter Hammonds book:
Slavery, Terrorism and Islam: The Historical Roots and Contemporary Threat:
Islam is not a religion nor is it a cult. It is a complete system.
Islam has religious, legal, political, economic and military components. The religious component is a beard for all the other components.
Islamization occurs when there are sufficient Muslims in a country to agitate for their so-called religious rights.
When politically correct and culturally diverse societies agree to the reasonable Muslim demands for their religious rights, they also get the other components under the table. Heres how it works (percentages source CIA: The World Fact Book (2007)).
As long as the Muslim population remains around 1% of any given country they will be regarded as a peace-loving minority and not as a threat to anyone. In fact, they may be featured in articles and films, stereotyped for their colorful uniqueness:
United States Muslim 1.0%
Australia Muslim 1.5%
Canada Muslim 1.9%
China Muslim 1%-2%
Italy Muslim 1.5%
Norway Muslim 1.8%
At 2% and 3% they begin to proselytize from other ethnic minorities and disaffected groups with major recruiting from the jails and among street gangs:
Denmark Muslim 2%
Germany Muslim 3.7%
United Kingdom Muslim 2.7%
Spain Muslim 4%
Thailand Muslim 4.6%
From 5% on they exercise an inordinate influence in proportion to their percentage of the population.
They will push for the introduction of halal (clean by Islamic standards) food, thereby securing food preparation jobs for Muslims. They will increase pressure on supermarket chains to feature it on their shelves along with threats for failure to comply. ( United States ).
France Muslim 8%
Philippines Muslim 5%
Sweden Muslim 5%
Switzerland Muslim 4.3%
The Netherlands Muslim 5.5%
Trinidad &Tobago Muslim 5.8%
At this point, they will work to get the ruling government to allow them to rule themselves under Sharia, the Islamic Law. The ultimate goal of Islam is not to convert the world but to establish Sharia law over the entire world.
When Muslims reach 10% of the population, they will increase lawlessness as a means of complaint about their conditions ( Paris car-burnings). Any non-Muslim action that offends Islam will result in uprisings and threats ( Amsterdam - Mohammed cartoons).
Guyana Muslim 10%
India Muslim 13.4%
Israel Muslim 16%
Kenya Muslim 10%
Russia Muslim 10-15%
After reaching 20% expect hair-trigger rioting, jihad militia formations, sporadic killings and church and synagogue burning:
Ethiopia Muslim 32.8%
At 40% you will find widespread massacres, chronic terror attacks and ongoing militia warfare:
Bosnia Muslim 40%
Chad Muslim 53.1%
Lebanon Muslim 59.7%
From 60% you may expect unfettered persecution of non-believers and other religions, sporadic ethnic cleansing (genocide), use of Sharia Law as a weapon and Jizya, the tax placed on infidels:
Albania Muslim 70%
Malaysia Muslim 60.4%
Qatar Muslim 77.5%
Sudan Muslim 70%
After 80% expect State run ethnic cleansing and genocide:
Bangladesh Muslim 83%
Egypt Muslim 90%
Gaza Muslim 98.7%
Indonesia Muslim 86.1%
Iran Muslim 98%
Iraq Muslim 97%
Jordan Muslim 92%
Morocco Muslim 98.7%
Pakistan Muslim 97%
Palestine Muslim 99%
Syria Muslim 90%
Tajikistan Muslim 90%
Turkey Muslim 99.8%
United Arab Emirates Muslim 96%
100% will usher in the peace of Dar-es-Salaam the Islamic House of Peace theres supposed to be peace because everybody is a Muslim:
Afghanistan Muslim 100%
Saudi Arabia Muslim 100%
Somalia Muslim 100%
Yemen Muslim 99.9%
Of course, thats not the case. To satisfy their blood lust, Muslims then start killing each other for a variety of reasons. Before I was nine I had learned the basic canon of Arab life. It was me against my brother; me and my brother against our father; my family against my cousins and the clan; the clan against the tribe; and the tribe against the world and all of us against the infidel. Leon Uris, The Haj It is good to remember that in many, many countries, such as France, the Muslim populations are centered around ghettos based on their ethnicity. Muslims do not integrate into the community at large. Therefore, they exercise more power than their national average would indicate.
Europe is now having second thoughts about the Schengen Agreement and the free movement of labor within the EU. Borders do matter--even if the immigrants are from other EU countries. I have lived 13 years in five Euopean countries. Europe does not do a good job of assimilation.
The US is being colonized by the Third World. We are developing our own ghettos, e.g., LA, Miami, Detroit, etc.
The nations immigrant population (legal and illegal) reached 40 million in 2010, the highest number in our history. The U.S. immigrant population has doubled since 1990, nearly tripled since 1980, and quadrupled since 1970, when it stood at 9.7 million. Of the 40 million immigrants in the country in 2010, 13.9 million arrived in 2000 or later making it the highest decade of immigration in American history, even though there was a net loss of jobs during the decade. Growth in the immigrant population has primarily been driven by high levels of legal immigration. Roughly three-fourths of immigrants in the country are here legally. With nearly 12 million immigrants, Mexico was by far the top immigrant-sending country, accounting for 29 percent of all immigrants and 29 percent of growth in the immigrant population from 2000 to 2010. The median age of immigrants in 2010 was 41.4 compared to 35.9 for natives.
Could you point t one place in the world where Islam has assimilated?
I understand your point, but I believe three qualifications need to be made.
First, Muslim immigration is in an entirely different category from immigration in the 1800s and early 1900s from Northern Europe and from Southern or Eastern Europe, and immigration since the 1960s from Hispanic countries and from Asia. Muslim immigration carries problems unique to itself. In the past, most immigrants came to America because of its economic, political or religious freedoms (or all three together) and wanted to preserve those freedoms. We have never before had a significant group that didn't want those freedoms but instead viewed them as a threat, and intend to reject key Western values on which America was founded.
Second, while it's obvious we're having massive immigration in terms of raw numbers, I'd be interested in seeing numbers based on population percentages rather than raw numbers. Yes, we have more immigrants today, but there was a day when the United States had a far smaller population than it does today — the whole country had fewer people at the end of the Revolutionary War (3.9 million) than the combined population today of the New York City boroughs of Manhattan and Brooklyn — and I think the massive immigration of the 1800s may have been a significantly higher percentage of the population than what we're seeing today.
Third, there was a day when large parts of the rural Midwest spoke German, Dutch, or various other northern European languages of farmer immigrants, and large parts of our cities were filled not only with northern European immigrants but also impoverished ethnic ghettos where Italian, Yiddish, or various Eastern European languages were spoken and where much of the population was illiterate even in its native language and members of those immigrant groups went to work in horrible factory conditions. Our Hispanic immigration is following long-established patterns of immigration from Southern and Eastern Europe, filling bottom-of-the-barrel unskilled labor jobs that many Americans simply refuse to do, but in the process getting a bad reputation for a variety of social ills.
I don't see immigration as being a key problem in the United States. It **IS** a key problem in Europe, but the problem is that the immigrants are bringing fundamentally anti-Western values and European nations no longer have a shared Judeo-Christian ethic which teaches the value of work and personal discipline.
I'm not unaware of the problems of Hispanic immigration. I do believe in a Protestant work ethic, and that needs to be taught today to Hispanic immigrants for many of the same reasons it needed to be taught to Eastern and Southern Europeans in the 1800s. My ancestors were Italian, by the way, and phrases like “dirty Dago” and “wop” were once used the same way Americans today use “wetback” and “dirty Mexican.”
The bottom line, however, is that Europe's problems are multiple orders of magnitude worse because its immigration is coming from nations which are fundamentally hostile to Western culture in ways that Latin America is not.
well at least it can be said that things are Ducky in Denmark

Your ancestors entered the U.S. legally, which demonstrated respect for their new country's laws.
