Outrage!! Catholic Georgetown Chooses Sebelius For Commencement

Friday, May 04, 2012 7:06 PM

I can't believe it. I can, but I can't.

One of the leading ostensibly Catholic Universities, Georgetown, has invited the author of the virulently anti-Catholic HHS mandate, HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, to be one of its commencement speakers.

There is no way to interpret this other than a direct slap and challenge to the USCCB.  Georgetown needs to lose its Catholic certification immediately.  The Cardinal Newman Society reports:

In what can only be interpreted as a direct challenge to America’s Catholic bishops, Georgetown University has announced that “pro-choice” Catholic Kathleen Sebelius, Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and lead architect of the Obama administration’s assault on religious freedom through the HHS contraception mandate, has been invited to speak at one of Georgetown’s several commencement ceremonies.

The Cardinal Newman Society has posted a petition to protest this outrage here: GeorgetownScandal.com.  It has also alerted Washington Cardinal Donald Wuerl and sent a letter to Georgetown President John DeGioia urging him to immediately withdraw the invitation.

We cannot allow this to happen or we cannot allow Georgetown to carry the name Catholic.

In the defining battle of our generation over religious libertyy and the rights of conscience, you are either with us or against us.  Georgetown has now affirmed, they are against us.

Doesn’t anyone remember how the entire faculty came out in support of Sandra Fluke?

They're Fluked.

Unfortunately Georgetown has not been a Catholic Catholic school for a long time. Being run by Jesuits will do that.

Politicians and ‘journalists’ should NEVER be commencement speakers...limit those speakers to business leaders that have actually ACCOMPLISHED something...far more inspirational. Who the hell want to listen to ‘Killer Kathleen’?

I like your suggestion about business owners/leaders.

Good choices for commencement (beginning of a new life) speakers. Gives them a look at the business world.

I ran into a good friend at Church this morning. He graduated Georgetown with a bachelor's degree in philosophy in the 1950s, so long ago that even the Georgetown Jebbies were STILL Catholic. (That was the pre-Billy Jeff Blythe Clinton era as well as pre-Sandra Fluke era). My now retired friend had a distinguished career as a rather well known publisher of many first rate and verrrrry Catholic books over many decades. He kept many classics alive.

I asked him if he was planning on going to Georgetown to bathe in the wisdom (such as it is) to be offered to the Georgetown community by the sorry likes of Kathleen Gilligan Sebelius. He was Shocked! Shocked!!! to learn of her invitation to speak at graduation.

I have been pondering your FReepmail of a couple of weeks ago about your visit to old Notre Shame. I feel the same about my Jesuit prep school and simply shall never visit again. Move to Rockford, IL. Join St. Mary's Oratory there, capably and reverently and admirably led by Fr. Brian Bovee of the all Tridentine Institute of Christ the King. On Pentecost, we are having a Solemn High Mass of the old school at 9 AM on a Sunday morning with the choir providing the music of a Casali Mass. The Oratory is located at a classic 1885 church in downtown Rockford. There will be a reception afterwards. Any traditional Catholic in communion with the Holy See is welcome. The congregation itself has many an outstanding Catholic and even a former Notre Dame (back when it too was STILL Catholic) athlete or two, at least one of whom has ten or more kids which is not uncommon at the Oratory. If you are missing the Church we knew in youth, we have it right here in Rockford, Illinois.

As to Georgetown: "Away go troubles, down the drain: Roto-Rooter!"

I am a Catholic on this board and I fully recognize the reality that all too many baptized as Catholic have excommunicated themselves (latae sententiae as Catholics say) by their transgressions against God, against the Faith, against the Commandments, and/or against the Law of the Church, including the Natural Law.

Therefore, we Catholics on this board do NOT "always claim, once a Catholic, always a Catholic." Pelosi, Kerry, just about anyone named Kennedy of the Hyannis Port Kennedies, Rosa DeLauro, Susan Collins, Kirsten Gillibrand, Jack Reed, Patrick Leahy, Kathleen Gilligan Sebelius, Richard Durbin, Pat Quinn(occhio), Robert Menendez, and so many, many other rank apostates in public life.

The only authentic Catholic teaching organizations that are accessible to American Catholics are the Catholic radio stations. In Washington, DC, there is an absolutely wonderful radio station, AM 1160, WMET, which is part of the Texas-based Guadalupe Radio Network.

If you are an educated Catholic like me, stop giving to your college, and start sending your money to your local Catholic radio station.

Here is a link to Guadalupe Radio; if you don’t live in Washington DC or the markets they serve in Texas, you can listen on the internet.
