Romney Tries to Channel Reagan, Gets Obama Instead

Much has been made of Mitt Romney’s failure to even once use the word “conservative” in his post-election speech on April 24.

No big surprise here on that one – Romney has made it clear all during the primary season he plans to win the nomination, and if possible the November election, without conservative or Tea Party support, so why change now?

While Romney’s failure to use the word “conservative” in his speech didn’t surprise us, one aspect of the speech was more than a little odd.

It was obvious the speech was intended to make Romney sound like President Reagan, but instead it made him sound more like Barack Obama.

It seemed to us that Romney’s speech writers went through a couple of old Reagan speeches with their dictionary of synonyms to insure that the sunny optimism for America’s future that was one of the qualities of Reagan’s best speeches came through loud and clear without opening Governor Romney to a charge of obvious plagiarism.

However, “He’s asking us to accept that Washington knows best – and can provide all,” and “We believe in America. We believe in ourselves. Our greatest days are still ahead. We are, after all, Americans!” and other phrases sounded so much like Reagan that the Romney campaign should probably send Reagan speech writer Tony Dolan a check just to be safe.

Unfortunately, the Reaganesque phrases didn’t actually connect Romney with any course of action or policy, and in that they smacked more of Barack Obama than Ronald Reagan.

One of Reagan’s great strengths as a communicator was his ability to build a case for his policies by presenting facts, and conservative ideas and philosophy leavened with a little humor.

Guilt trip? Not hardly. I am trying to convince you to not cast a vote that will help 0bama be re-elected.

You are trying to use guilt to get conservatives to vote against their core values. It is NOT math. It isn't even clever. I will NOT, WILL NOT, vote for a man that is everything that I fight against and abhor.

I don’t agree with either guy Obama or Romney. I aim to vote against both. A protest vote.

I had a dream once that I stepped out into the cross walk once since I had the right of way. Car hit me and killed me. Before dying I shook my fist at him saying, "I had the right of way!"

Or I could live to fight another day.

Your choice.

IT IS THE EXACT SAME SITUATION WITH ROMNEY AND 0BAMA.

The situation isn't the same - what is the same is the ROTTEN FOUL EVIL spirit within.

Mittbot? hardly. More like a realist. Always have been. And in this case Romney over 0bama. There are no perfect solutions, only tradeoffs. Simple minded - which means a mittbot. They only type who would vote for a bishop of a cult and pro homo and pro baby killing candidate.

Simple minded? You malign many, many Freepers, Christians like Palin, and so many others with that statement perhaps you could reconsider that only the simpleminded will vote for Romney.

No one is perfect, not even Sarah Palin.

You have made a choice to do all that you can do to keep Romney out of the White House.

Me? I have made a choice to remove 0bama from the White House.

One of them will be there come Jan 2013.

Which do you want?

It will be one of them.

No matter who you chose it will be one of them. You have to decide whether your choice will put Romney in there of kick 0bama out.

Simple really.

I’ve been involved in American political campaigns at all levels for more than twenty years. And that is the weakest campaign pitch I’ve ever seen.

The perfect analogy for the Romney campaign. Except Romney, as he lays dying politically, shakes his fist adn says, "It was my turn!"

Sorry I didn’t spell it out more clearly.

Lying dead in the street referred to an 0bama victory.

Two choices:

1. Keep 0bama in the White House.

2. Put Romney in of the White House

Me? I choose Door #2.

Which do you choose?

As of right now those are the only two choices as much as we wish it wasn’t otherwise.

You're a Mormon?

I find it curious that you're pushing Romney. He has not yet gotten 1144 nor has the convention taken place but you're all over FR pushing him. Interesting.

And that is the weakest campaign pitch I’ve ever seen.

So be it.

Romney isn't in my top 30, hence the weak pitch. But I tell you 0bama is not in my top 300 million.

As much as I dislike it, those are the choices.

Yes I am Mormon.

Pushing Romney?

As of right now there are two choices.

#1 0bama in the White House.
#2 Romney in the White House.

As much as we don’t like it, those are the choices.

My decision today? #2.

If you will bone up on reading comprehension it is plain to see that I am ABO. The distinction between ABO and “pushing Romney” is difficult for a select few on FR to identify, nevertheless it is what it is.

If Romney crashes and burns and the candidate most likely to win against 0bama is a can of soup. I vote for the can of soup.

“Interesting”? What are you trying to say but apparently don’t dare say it? Come on. Out with it. It’s OK. I can handle it.

Romney does not yet have the nomination. There's been no convention. He has not gotten 1144 yet.

You're pushing Romney and using guilt to do it.

And you refuse to face the reality of my post to you on fraud. Totally ignored it.

Goodnight.

It just makes me heartsick to see how many alleged conservatives embrace party or clerical serfdom.

Now we know how the revolutionaries saw the loyalists.

When the vote gets to my state (Utah) I will see who is on the ballot.

You and your state of Utah will go 95% for bishop Willard

just as you did in 2008

Are you sure I will go for Romney?

Sure?

Depends who is on the ballot. Will anyone other than Paul and Romney be on the ballot?

Sheeeesh. It is difficult to vote for Gingrich, or Santorum, or Palin, or Cain, or Bachmann, or DeMint, or Christie, or West, or a can of soup if they are not on the ballot.

But don’t let those facts get in your way.

Bigotry? Yeah right.

I ignored your fraud comment because if the election is already rigged for 0bama no matter ,then vote for Romney, it won’t matter right.

If the vote is totally rigged for 0bama then why discuss voting for anyone? And by the way,

#1 I am not pushing Romney.
#2 I am not using guilt.

I am:
#1. Pushing 0bama out.
#2. Using logic and math to do it.

Goodnight.

As much as I dislike it, those are the choices.

Maybe for you.

But not for me, or any of the conservatives I politically associate with in all fifty states.

All socialist pro-choice democrats, including Mitt Romney, are a nonstarter for us.

I'm sorry you're willing to abandon all principle out of abject fear.

OK I will jump in...

What happens in 2013, if everyone who is threatening to stay home or to not vote for the “Anyone But Obama” (who happens to be Romney), does what they say they will do and Obama is still in office and our country no longer resembles anything like the USA we have known in the past?

Are you saying Romney is MORE pro abortion than Obama?

What if in 2013, Obama and his controllers end up taking away more of our liberties. Let’s say, they make it illegal to speak out against abortions, punishment is imprisonment. No need to lose the right to vote as that has already been lost because voting is no longer a process allowed in the USSA.

Let me ask you this. Gun to your head, you WILL DIE if you refuse to choose... Obama or Romney? Neither? Bang! Dead!

If you had to choose or die, would you die for your convictions? Obama or Romney? Gun is pointing at your child’s head... Obama or Romney? If you decide neither then your kid gets it.

I know it is absurd, but one of them is better than the other, on some level, even if almost infinitesimal.

If you would die for your convictions, I mean you feel that strongly that you can’t impact anything at a LATER date, after Obama is out of office then I guess you have little faith that things can get better.

We may not have another chance to turn the tide on abortion if Obama is re-elected. I am not saying Romney is good I am saying he is less likely to seize all control of the USA than Obama is.

Obama = less chance of turning the tide against people having abortions and doctors killing babies.

Romney = More time to fight on this issue.

Any other candidate = Pipe Dream = You are just being delusional.

Just so you know, I am ANTI ABORTION and Romney has never been my choice, but I will vote for him over Obama.

No Vote or a vote for anything other than the Republican candidate is vote for more, unlimited abortions. With Romney or whoever the republican candidate is we can buy more time to win this issue.

I will say it a different way. If Obama is reelected, we have lost the abortion issue, period.
