Issa, Chaffetz confirm contempt plans for Holder over Fast and Furious(gunwalker)

House GOP leaders said Friday they are pursuing a plan to hold Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. and the Justice Department in contempt for “stonewalling” them over information regarding the administration’s failed Fast and Furious gun-tracking program.

GOP Rep. Darrell Issa confirmed to Fox News that House Speaker John Boehner gave him and others on his House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform the authority to drafted a contempt of Congress resolution.

“We have a few other options (but) to a great extent we’ve been stonewalled by the Justice Department,” said Issa, R-Calif.

The news of the document and the extended meeting in Boehner’s office was reported first by The Los Angeles Times.

“We have issued a subpoena,” Utah GOP Rep. Jason Chaffetz, a member of the oversight committee, said earlier on Fox News. “We have bent over backwards to be patient and take time. (Holder) is leading us down a path where we have no other choice.”

The resolution, if approved by the GOP-led House, could force Holder to release thousands of pages of documents related to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’ program.

Holder and other Justice Department officials say they are cooperating with Congress’ investigators.

The Fast and Furious program was run by the ATF’s Phoenix office from 2009 until early 2011. It allowed illegal gun purchases with the expectation of tracking the weapons to Mexican drug cartel leaders. However, hundreds of guns disappeared, with some eventually turning up at crime scenes in Mexico.

I guess fox is getting on the "botched operation" bandwagon now. The entire purpose of the program was to have the guns turn up in Mexico, and it extended far beyond the Phoenix office of the ATF.

Why do we need a House Committee if the Speaker makes the decision? We’ll just let him do it all!!

Bla bla bla bla bla bla.

CUT THE PR THEATER and DO something besides TALK, Issa!

More than three years of this blowbag’s promises to investigate the ‘rats nest and we’ve gotten not one damn thing of substance out of him. Grandstanding loser.

August to September and maybe even into October is where this is going to get interesting. It’ll be a devastating blow to DOJ and the White House timed to do the most damage in the election.

Too bad the GOP pulled Romney... If they’d had a true conservative candidate, it would have been a blow out for them. As it is, they’ll struggle even with the F&F bomb drop.

What if Holder...and Obama, just ignore the contempt citation? What can the House do? Who are they gonna call? The media will just report it as a tiff between the GOP, out to get Obama, and the Dear Leader... Nothing out of the ordinary!

The same with any SCOTUS ruling. Neither branch has any method of enforcing their decisions, other than the Executive Branch's fidelity to the rule of law.

You’re pretty hard on Issa. Care to name anyone... anyone at all... in congress that has done more to keep Obumo’s dictatorial minions in check?

Yeah, they all pretty much suck. Feckless self-serving money-wasting blowbags... and that’s just the REPUBLICANS. The ‘Rats are worse.

Now... care to enlighten me on just exactly what Issa has DONE — actually DONE — to “keep Odbumbo’s dictatorial minions in check”?

Besides tawk, I mean. What R-E-S-U-L-T-S has Issa gotten in his three years of effort? Exactly who has been sent packing from Barky’s administration? Exactly what dictatorial excesses have been stopped rolled back?

I’ll wait patiently for you to fill in the details.

I already know the answer. NONE.

Darryl Issa is an ineffectual grandstander.

As this is pretty much what I was gonna say, let me repeat your post.

How long did it take for the libs to get rid of Gonzalez?

(February 3, 2005 to September 17, 2007) Over complete BS I might ad.

He’s vocal, gets MSM face time, is pursuing the proper causes, has a degree of gravitas that works. Sorry you’re so pissy about the topic but, again, name someone doing something better. If you haven’t got a solution to the problem, quit dissin’ someone that’s at least working on it.

I'm guessing Holder will just take whatever piece of paper actually constitutes the "Contempt Citation", have it framed, hang it on his office wall, and otherwise ignore it.

"Why do we need a House Committee if the Speaker makes the decision? We’ll just let him do it all!!"

After 1 year of asking - Holder needs another month's notice to cough up the goods! I really am impressed. With Mr Speaker in charge, we are now moving at Warp Speed. /sarc

In about one month (by Memorial Day) when you will be proven wrong, will you apologize?

Seriously, I share your impatience but the delays are both tactical (don’t like that) and practical (absolutely necessary)—the case has/had to be carefully laid out and built. They have him.

That doesn’t mean Obama won’t pardon him, but hopefully Obama will pay a price for that. Of course the enemedia will do the best they can to protect both Holder and Obama so there is no guaranteed win which is part of the delay. Call it preparing the ground.

All talk.

>> has a degree of gravitas that works.

Wrong! Judging by the RESULTS, it DOES NOT work.

As I thought, you can’t show a single result. Just talk, theater, grandstanding. As faucetman pointed out, the ‘Rats got rid of Gonzalez in only TWO YEARS.

And as far as your demand that I not object here in the forum to Issa’s continual ineffectual grandstanding: UP YOURS with a red hot poker. I’ll continue to speak my mind and you can take a flying leap if you think otherwise. Am I clear?

Sure. *IF* it happens, remind me and I’ll be more than happy to take back my criticism and eat my crow. I’ll be that thrilled to see Holder gone.

I seriously doubt I’ll be eating any.

Now: will YOU apologize and admit that Issa is all hat and no cattle if he is NOT successful by Memorial Day?

Or do you need more time? (Three plus years may not be enough; I understand.) Just tell me the date certain by which he’ll have results or you’ll admit his ineffectiveness, and you got it.

First of all Issa only became Chairman of the Oversight Committee on January 3, 2011 after our 2010 take over of the House which is a little over ONE year not three plus years.

Agent Brian Terry was killed in December of 2010 which might also put the time line in a little better perspective for you as that was the incident that led to widespread public interest in the case.

Also, the first really big break in the investigation came last July 4th when one of the whistleblowers secretly came to give a deposition against the orders of the Obama/Holder regime. By my math that's less than a year ago, this still being April. Your math may vary.

I can't give you a date certain, but if Issa (and Grassley) both bail, I will immediately apologize. And I seriously hope you are thrilled and delighted when Holder is gone.

My Representative told me that in one of the meetings where Holder was being arrogant Rep. Gosar asked Holder what the legal penalty was for lying to Congress under oath (I'm assuming that is the Contempt of Congress charge). Holder deflated and in a small voice said, "Ten years".

I doubt he'll get 10 years because Barky will almost certainly pardon him, but there's nothing anyone can do about that.
