Newt Gingrich says he's dropping out 'about' May 2 and endorsing Romney [VIDEO]
Daily Caller ^ | 4/29/2012 | Nicholas Ballasy

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich told The Daily Caller in a video interview that he is dropping out of the Republican presidential race 'probably about Wednesday' May 2 and endorsing former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

Gingrich, alongside his wife Callista, said the GOP's message in the general election should be, "Can you afford four more years like this? Not complicated. Do you want this much unemployment, this high a gasoline price, this much deficit spending? You have a great president but if you don't want this, you better vote for somebody new."

Big difference between endorsing a liberal republican candidate and being a leftist politician. We can look at Palin's record in office and look at mitt's. The difference is quite striking. One was a Conservative Governor that took on corruption in both parties and one was a Progressive Governor that was a ted kennedy ally.

Sarah never said, “I was never part of the Reagan Revolution... I never believed in it”. The list is a million miles long. Want to know what mitt will do to America... look at what he has done to FR.

obama and his communist agenda unified Conservatives and Independents and 2010 we were a movement. mitt isn't even the nominee yet and we are a house divided and in some ways the damage may be irreversible.

The arrests were all prior to the 2008 election, and were reportedly mugshots from Chicago — reasons for arrests varied. They’re just some local ne’er-do-wells.

I'm shocked that Newt would say something like this! "A great president?" I'm disgusted with the comment. No wonder his campaign has gone nowhere.

I would have prefered we all be together enthusiastically supporting a solid conservative candidate, but we couldn’t even agree on which of the other candidates were conservative or not, so we pretty much are screwed now.

Cain, Perry, Bachmann didn't announce the same day that they were dropping out. Newt has some commitments to finish in NC and is wrapping things up. It's no big deal.

There is also Virgil Goode of The Constitution Party.

No thanks. I want my general election vote to actually make a difference. Squandering it on uncompetitive 3rd party's, vanity candidates or write-in's is a total waste in my opinion. If the GOP nominated a platypus for President, I would vote for it as the only alternative with any chance of defeating our current dog eater President.

Saying that, I am from Virginia and know of Virgil Goode. I do believe him to be a good man. He is actually the only Democrat vote I ever cast. It was in a Democrat primary in the 90's when he was running for Senate. I am an NRA member and the organization encouraged us to vote for him over the far more liberal incumbent Democrat (Robb I believe it was). It's an open primary here, so even conservatives could vote. Didn't work out, but I don't regret taking the time out to support him. I don't think 3rd party's will ever work in our winner take all, no coalition building system, but if I did I'd certainly consider Goode from what I know of him.

“I’m bravely predicting that the plan is for Biden to fake an illness, and Hillary will “reluctantly” step in as Obama Veep.)”

I tend to agree with you — that explains why Bill Clinton suddenly is so enthusiastically campaigning for Obama.

No, it couldn't. Conservatives pull the great middle one way (when we're not busy pulling against each other) and radicals pull it the wrong way. Failure to support McCain in 2008 -- not some nebulous smoke-filled back room conspiracy -- has led to the quite obvious (at the time, check it out, I wasn't the only one saying so on FR, some of the others have since thrown up their hands and left FR for good) outcome that those who bother to run at all are less conservative than the candidates in 2008. Don't vote? You don't count. The apparent steady decline of conservative influence on the Republican field comes directly from that, regardless of the Pontius Pilate style handwashing that goes on around here.

“But I’ll be hanged if I vote for a man who believes in socalisism, abortion, and gun control.”

If you don’t vote for Romney you will be doing exactly that, effectively voting for Obama — Obama is the one you are describing above.

Elections are about choices.

If your only choice is between eating chicken or rat meat or starve to death, starving to death is not the smartest decision.

Hell, some of us want our primary vote to make a difference. You do know that some folks haven't voted in the primary yet, right?

Funny how those rules and court cases and dirty tricks work out.

Nope. Some people are math challenged. A vote for ABL Anyone But Liberals won't put a single vote in the Romney or Obama column.

Scaring people isn't going to work this election. Well, maybe just the weak minded pseudo-conservatives.

Wedge issues may boost Obama’s prospects

Obama and Democrats appear to be using immigration and contraception to try to pry away voters from the other camp, similar to wedge issues that past Republican presidential candidates have employed.
