Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich told The Daily Caller in a video interview that he is dropping out of the Republican presidential race 'probably about Wednesday' May 2 and endorsing former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.
Gingrich, alongside his wife Callista, said the GOP's message in the general election should be, "Can you afford four more years like this? Not complicated. Do you want this much unemployment, this high a gasoline price, this much deficit spending? You have a great president but if you don't want this, you better vote for somebody new."

He can't get traction because his social and foreign/defense policies are diametrically opposed to those of most in the conservative movement. No one who thinks the traitor Bradley Manning is a hero and patriot is going to be a serious force in the Republican party. No one who thinks it is okay if Iran gets nukes is going to get anywhere in the Republican party. Ron Paul isn't a conservative, he is a Libertarian. He's only using the GOP label because he realizes now that 3rd party's wont work and no one would pay attention to him with an (L) after his name. Thankfully after this cycle the charade will be over since Paul is not running again for his House seat. His son, on the other hand, seems much better and I hope Rand can turn out to be the kind of real conservative with some libertarian leanings that might make for exciting future leadership. The real question is whether Rand is actually like his father and hiding it, or if he really does believe in sane social and foreign/defense policies.
You are right, but there is no other way to vote against Romney.
The guy who he said he supports the gun ban he signed in Mass, the ban Clinton signed, and future bans. But when he began his run for the 2008 nomination, he joined the NRA and became a born again gun rights supporter... Riight.
He may be better than Obama, but he's far from Good Enough.
So, here we are, and the country will continue on the road to socialist tyranny, and an economy that's spiraling ever downward, the only question being how fast we're going.
And that is A Very Bad Thing.
“Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich told The Daily Caller in a video interview that he is dropping out of the Republican presidential race ‘probably about Wednesday’ May 2 and endorsing former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. “
figures. It was great that he lasted as long as he did but the fix was in a long time ago. I understand that Romney knew what he was doing since even before day 1 but what I don’t understand is how Republicans allowed this to happen.
what were they arrested for?
Great thought. Doesn't work in the real world. The GOP-E owns the rule book. And if they detect a real conservative that won't play their game, they sideline him with existing rules, or change the rules mid-stream (See Florida).
Nope. Only hope is that the GOP-E dies on the vine after being starved out.

“Ron Paul isn’t a conservative, he is a Libertarian. “
Ron Paul is not a libertarian. He’s a kook. You can be anti-war without having to defend Iran or ‘rationalize’ 9/11.
Just a head feint. Newt’s in it all the way to Tampa, dontcha know?
No we can't. But I'll be hanged if I vote for a man who believes in socalisism, abortion, and gun control. My conscience simply won't let me. I fear God more than Obama.
My sincere concern is that we may not be able to survive four years of either man and remain free Americans. The worst thing I can forsee is Romney and the Republicans “reform” Obama care and have a major triumph and leave us stuck with the same tyranny.
I have said it before, but I think the analogy bears repeating (Lord knows the pro-Romney arguments are getting threadbare.)If I hand you two glasses of water. I tell you in the glass on the left is a 50% solution of roundup, I then tell you the one on the right has a 40% solution of roundup. Are you going to drink from either glass simply because they are the two I handed you.
Never before could a third party show as great a contrast on as many issues as now. If all the conservatives would stand behind things could change. I think there ought to be discussion on it.

Sarah never said, “I was never part of the Reagan Revolution... I never believed in it”. The list is a million miles long. Want to know what mitt will do to America... look at what he has done to FR.
obama and his communist agenda unified Conservatives and Independents and 2010 we were a movement. mitt isn't even the nominee yet and we are a house divided and in some ways the damage may be irreversible.

...You have a great president....
&&
What is the world is he saying there?!
The arrests were all prior to the 2008 election, and were reportedly mugshots from Chicago — reasons for arrests varied. They’re just some local ne’er-do-wells.
I'm shocked that Newt would say something like this! "A great president?" I'm disgusted with the comment. No wonder his campaign has gone nowhere.
I would have prefered we all be together enthusiastically supporting a solid conservative candidate, but we couldn’t even agree on which of the other candidates were conservative or not, so we pretty much are screwed now.
Me too, and your right.

There is also Virgil Goode of The Constitution Party.
No thanks. I want my general election vote to actually make a difference. Squandering it on uncompetitive 3rd party's, vanity candidates or write-in's is a total waste in my opinion. If the GOP nominated a platypus for President, I would vote for it as the only alternative with any chance of defeating our current dog eater President.
Saying that, I am from Virginia and know of Virgil Goode. I do believe him to be a good man. He is actually the only Democrat vote I ever cast. It was in a Democrat primary in the 90's when he was running for Senate. I am an NRA member and the organization encouraged us to vote for him over the far more liberal incumbent Democrat (Robb I believe it was). It's an open primary here, so even conservatives could vote. Didn't work out, but I don't regret taking the time out to support him. I don't think 3rd party's will ever work in our winner take all, no coalition building system, but if I did I'd certainly consider Goode from what I know of him.
“I’m bravely predicting that the plan is for Biden to fake an illness, and Hillary will “reluctantly” step in as Obama Veep.)”
I tend to agree with you — that explains why Bill Clinton suddenly is so enthusiastically campaigning for Obama.
“But I’ll be hanged if I vote for a man who believes in socalisism, abortion, and gun control.”
If you don’t vote for Romney you will be doing exactly that, effectively voting for Obama — Obama is the one you are describing above.
Elections are about choices.
If your only choice is between eating chicken or rat meat or starve to death, starving to death is not the smartest decision.
Hell, some of us want our primary vote to make a difference. You do know that some folks haven't voted in the primary yet, right?
Funny how those rules and court cases and dirty tricks work out.

Nope. Some people are math challenged. A vote for ABL Anyone But Liberals won't put a single vote in the Romney or Obama column.
Scaring people isn't going to work this election. Well, maybe just the weak minded pseudo-conservatives.
/johnny
Is Newt GOPe too?
“Seems awfully quiet in here......”
Why do you think that is?

Wedge issues may boost Obama’s prospects
Obama and Democrats appear to be using immigration and contraception to try to pry away voters from the other camp, similar to wedge issues that past Republican presidential candidates have employed.
Romney securing the nomination pretty much is a shoe-in for Obama.
Get used to it.

NO
You go first ;)
Conservatives are screwed again by the GOP.

Newt Gingrich says heâs dropping out âaboutâ May 2 and endorsing Romney
That’s caused by an editing program when using the apostrophe.
Its Sunday.
Your turn.
Please tell this “weak minded psuedo conservative” who to vote for...since the only two people in the world with a chance to win the presidency of the United States are Mitt Romney and Barack Hussein Obama.
Why the name calling?
In what sense? Romney has never found a socialist/welfare program he didn't like or wanted to cut, and he enjoys creating new ones.
Me no know.
I’m hungry though, time for dinner.
;)
I know. I lived in Goode’s district of Virginia. He is no longer a democrat. He is more conservative than Romney. The ex Chairwoman of the Prince Edward Co. GOP went to work for Goode in the 90’s after Allen won Governor.
I was so thrilled when Virginia finally got rid of Chuckie! remember his mistress at VA Bch? he has sure been silent ..hasn’t he..all but fell off the face of the earth.
General statement. And that was weak tea.
How about explaining how voting for someone that banned guns, and approved abortion is conservative?
And why do you think I care who wins if it comes down to those two liberals?
/johnny
Gee LVR, back when I was drinking, I could never tell those two apart... ;-)
Sort of like trying to differentiate the policies of the MuslimMarxist and the MassachusettsMoron both of which closely resemble what your dog deposited on the floor..
I guess that, theoretically, since I’m not “scared” into voting for Romney, then you didn’t call ME a name. Having said that there are many people who are “scared” of what a second term of BHO will do to this country. I guess you’re not one of them.
“How about explaining how voting for someone that banned guns, and approved abortion is conservative?”
I can’t explain how that is conservative and it is not my belief. However, I can explain not voting for anyone against BHO for a second term will lead to much worse than anything Romney will be able to do. If Romney wins, then more than likely, there will be decent conservative coattails in the House and Senate. If however, BHO wins, this will be diminshed and we have a better than equal chance of the current status quo...which is unacceptable.
“And why do you think I care who wins if it comes down to those two liberals?”
I don’t think you do care...I think you believe you’ll survive just fine...I trust you’re not surprised between the difference of the “two liberals”.
Obama is already a lame duck, with the Supremes smacking him down, loss of support internally...
So I'll vote and campaign for a conservative, and campaign against baby killer supports and those that want to ban guns.
Romney has less chance than Dole and McCain.
And this time, a lot of people are telling the liberal GOP to sod off. That we're not buying into the fear meme.
/johnny
Voting for gridlock is a valid choice. What if you knew voting for Romney would lead to Democrats taking over Congress in 2014 and winning back the presidency in 2016? Still a good idea to vote for him?
If we are truly durned if we do and durned if we don't it might be time to change the decision making paradigm. Option three might be getting dangerously close to our only chance(See Declaration of Independence, 2nd Amendment, and Civil Disobedience.)
So you truly believe someone besides Romney or Obama has a realistic chance to be elected president this year?
We're just arguing about how we're going to vote. I haven't seen one Freeper say they're not going to check the box for Republican in the House/Senate. So if those coattails happen it won't be because of Freepers. So you're talking to the wrong audience.
What does that have to do with voting my principles?
