Former President George W. Bush says ride 'uplifting'(honoring veterans)

“Riding with our vets is an uplifting experience,” Bush said. “It is an awesome feeling and an honor to be here with them.”

Bush spent about a half-hour speaking with riders and taking photographs before traveling in his motorcade to the Courtyard by Marriott at the Historic Fisk Building in downtown Amarillo. The three-day event is a 100-kilometer mountain bike ride aimed at honoring veterans seriously wounded in the war on terrorism as well as support groups.

The ex-president pedaled along 13.3 miles of rugged canyon trails with about 20 veterans, many them riding with prosthetic arms or legs, as temperatures hovered near 100.

Mike McNaughton, who served 10 years in the Army and three in the National Guard, lost his right leg and some fingers while clearing land mines during a seven-month tour in Afghanistan.

[...]Like other veterans, McNaughton said he was heartened by Bush manning his bike when he could have been collecting hefty fees from speeches instead.

“He is a former president now; he could do a lot of things,” McNaughton said. “He could make a lot of money just on speaking engagements, but he’s always been athletic, he always wanted to do stuff and when you combine it with his love of the military, it’s really nice.”

One of the first things out of Bush’s mouth was, “it wasn’t about him”
Whatever, issues I have had with Mr Bush I believe him to be a good man.
Could you imagine Odumba saying an event wasn’t about himself.
He would likely take credit for it.

He never lied when he honored the troops over and over again while in office.

Those troops miss him now.

National Military Appreciation Month (May 2012) includes Loyalty Day (1st), Military Spouse Appreciation Day (11th), VE Day(8th), Armed Forces Day (19th), and Memorial Day (30th). This very important month honors, remembers, recognizes and appreciates all military personnel; those men and women who have served throughout our history and all who now serve in uniform and their families as well as those Americans who have given their lives in defense of our freedoms we all enjoy today.

“How do I Show My Americanism on Loyalty Day?”

I was thinking that if I saw some Occupoopers keeping me from getting to work this morning, or going home by blocking my commute...

I’d speed up...;-)
