Sybrina Fulton: 'I Can Wait A Year' For Justice (Trayvon Martin's mother)
National Public Radio ^ | April 26, 2012 | Staff

Posted on 04/26/2012 9:17:08 AM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Days after George Zimmerman was freed on bail to await a second-degree murder trial for shooting Trayvon Martin, Sybrina Fulton, Martin's mother, says she's "willing to wait for justice to be served" in her son's case.

Speaking with Tell Me More host Michel Martin, Fulton also says that she feels like "I have a little hole in my heart. And that little hole is caused by the tragedy of Trayvon's death."

The Trayvon Martin case has sparked a national debate on topics ranging from race and teen fashion to gun control and self-defense laws, after the unarmed teenager was killed in February.

Along with Benjamin Crump, the attorney working with Martin's parents, Fulton spoke with Martin at NPR's studios. Excerpts from their interview are below.

Interview Highlights

On the police's treatment of Zimmerman:

"I feel, by him being arrested, that we are moving into the right direction. I certainly feel that he should have been arrested at the scene. But he was not; he was arrested some 44 days later. But I do think that it was justified that he be arrested."

On facing a lengthy trial process:

"If it takes me the rest of my life, I am dedicated and committed to getting justice. So, I can wait a year. If that's the process, the proper process that it has to take, I'm willing to wait for justice to be served."

On the role of race in the Martin case:

"I have said before that it's not about black and white. And as I look in the crowds when we're at the rallies and at the different church services and things like that, I notice that it's not just African-American people. It's not just black people that are there. There are Spanish people, there are white people, there are Mexican people, Cuban people — there are people from all across the globe. So, that indicates to me that it's not just about African-Americans."

On Zimmerman's apology at his bond hearing:

Fulton refers the question to Benjamin Crump, who says:

"It was such an inappropriate time to do that. It was requested by his attorney right before the bond hearing — could he have a private meeting to apologize. Well, he had almost 49 days to come forward. And then on the 50th day, he comes forth and says, 'I want to apologize.'

"Well, we think that's very insincere, when you think of all the opportunities he had to apologize.

"It seems you have an ulterior motive to say I'm sorry when I'm trying to ask the judge to let me out of jail.

"... We believe, had Trayvon Martin shot George Zimmerman and the shoe been on the other foot, that Trayvon Martin would not have been given a bond."

On Trayvon Martin inspiring activism:

"When we went into it, we went into it with a focus. And our focus was to get justice for Trayvon. It does help to see so many people that's supporting us ... Just to see support from other parents and other individuals that are concerned; it helps a lot."

On Mother's Day:

"My mother is still living, so of course I'm going to take care of my mother, and make sure that she has flowers and a gift, and just spend time with my mother. My kids usually spend time with me ...

"It probably will be a ... point in that day that I would of course think about Trayvon and what he's done for me in the past, and how I'm going to miss him in the future."

Mrs. Trayvon™, justice has already been served.

No big lawsuit-lottery payday is headed your way.

So sorry. Goodbye.

Trayvon already got his justice, Sybrina. Just accept the fact that your failure as a parent directly contributed to that destiny.

Dear Ms Fulton, Justice has already been served in regards to your son, unfortunately, your son chose a path of being a gangster wannabe and criminal. A Law Abiding citizen successfully defended his life from your gangster criminal son. Justice has been served.

"I do think that it was justified that he be arrested."

Here is what was justified:

(1)

According to Trayvon's so called "girlfriend," he did not have the hoodie on because it was raining or cold, but because...

"He {Trayvon on his cellphone} said this man was watching him, so he put his hoodie on." (LINK)
This was before Zimmmerman called 911 and reported a suspicious person with a hoodie on.

Here's a reality test:

When anticipating that a crime is imminent, is it a victim or a perpetrator - that puts his hoodie up?

[ Here's a clue for FRs psuedo-conservatives & leftwing moles posing as conservatives: Google search "suspect hoodie" ]

In the world of the reality based, putting a hoodie on to conceal identity justifies suspicion.

(2)

Having your skull slammed against a concrete sidewalk constitutes the threat of "death or serious bodily harm" that legally justifies "the use of deadly force" in Florida.

Justice won’t truly be served until.

a)Zimmerman is acquitted
b) Ms. Fulton and Mr. Martin reimburse him for the bullet and medcial bills he incurred from their son’s assault on him.
c) Zimmerman gets a $100,000,000 plus judgment against Martin’s parents, Sharpton, Jackson, ABC, NBC and other medial outlets and individuals that have defamed him.
d) Angela Nifong — I mean Corey is disbarred.

You don’t have to wait for justice.
Justice was served when your little criminal’s career was ended. The only injustice being perpetrated now is the witch trial of Zimmerman.

Sorry peas you should’ve watched him closer and made sure he wasn’t a thug who attacked someone who just happened to be armed.Sorry that he didn’t have more responsible parents who paid attention to him.

The media got everyone worked up because Zimmerman calls 911 due to suspicious activity and didn’t stop following Trayvon (stupid made up name, btw) yet no one questions why tray didn’t call 911 himself if he was frightened? The innocent little boy had a phone...why didn’t HE call 911, hmm?

sorry for her loss, but I have this feeling that her son was on a very bad path....drugs for one...and I would not be surprised if some of the burglaries in the area were done by him...seems he was caught with a bag of jewelry and a screwdriver at some time, although he said it wasn't "his"....

let justice prevail, but I think it was self defense period...

B Crump is their payday lawyer. She’s impatient because Crump can’t get his civil suits tried until after the Zimmerman trial. So of course she is in a hurry. Of course she’s nuts enough to think her little Trayvon was a young innocent teenager who did not assault Zimmerman
