Perry endorses Romney after Gingrich signals an exit

Texas governor Rick Perry announced Wednesday night that he would endorse Mitt Romney's presidential bid, hours the campaign of Newt Gingrich — Perry's previous choice — announced that the former Speaker would be ending his bid for the White House.

"Mitt Romney has earned the Republican Presidential nomination through hard-work, a strong organization, and disciplined message of restoring America after nearly four years of failed job-killing policies from President Obama and his administration," said Gov. Perry in a statement released by his campaign. "So today I join the many conservative Republicans across the nation in endorsing Mitt Romney for President and pledge to him, my constituents and the Republican Party than I will continue to work hard to help defeat President Obama."

..."American jobs, economic stability and national security depend on electing a new president. Mitt's vision and record of private sector success will put America back on the path of job creation, economic opportunity and limited government," Perry said.

Perry was one of the last prominent holdouts to announce support for Romney, opting instead to stay pledged to Gingrich while the former Speaker remained in the race. Other Gingrich supporters, including fellow former presidential hopeful Herman Cain, had signaled that they were coalescing around Romney.

Romney and Perry shared some of the primary campaign's most bitter moments, with Perry accusing the eventual nominee of flip-flopping and Romney's campaign saying he had resorted to "dishonest tactics in order to prop up his flailing campaign."

While Perry struck a supportive tone in his statement Wednesday, he might not be rooting too hard for Romney to succeed. The governor said as recently as last week that he is interested in running for president again in 2016.

“Yeah, I am. I love ....

It is called we have a right to vote as we see and as we decide to. We are not under a/this rule yet. Tolerance, this is a conservative forum.

And the GOP and their ability to continue piling libs on us thanks you for yours.

To date, none of the ABO/Romney supporters can answer the simple questions of how voting for a man whose values are liberal is a conservative action...how one does not have to abandon their morality to vote for him...how voting for a man telling you daily that he will give you the polar opposite of what you want... who mirrors Obama in most policy positions; is a good idea. For the country, or anything else

Not one. Gee...why not?

All we get are fear filled excuses about “Obama thanks you” and other illogical crap. You ABO types can spin it till the cows come home, but you are willingly putting aside everything you claim to believe in with your vote for Romney. That’s your choice. Just don’t call yourselves conservatives. I have no idea why you are on a conservative website that does not remotely agree with you.

And as a side note: Anyone willing to explain how any of these former candidates and others, regardless of their name or fame, suddenly going 180 and backing Romney against everything THEY claimed to believe in isn’t an act of pure liberal hypocrisy?

Just politics? Well, it’s just principle and reputation so no biggie I guess...

Um, just wondering, do I now put Perry on the “Evil” list? I can’t keep up with the constant changes:

1) Ann Coulter now evil.
2) Paul Ryan now evil.
3) Marco Rubio now evil.
4) Karl Rove now evil.
5) Sean Hannity now sorta evil.
6) Newt Gingrich now sorta evil for dropping out.
7) Joe Lieberman was evil, then said something we liked so he moved to less evil.
8) Gov. Perry now ???

Boy oh boy, we do like to shoot our wounded.

Great rant. I'm right there with you.

I dropped the GOP when Bush 1 caved and raised taxes and did the 'assault' weapon ban.

I'm done with the GOP.

If you hit a nail with a hammer, it will drive said nail into a board.

Physics.

Vote as you wish, I suggest no other option. But know the result of the hammer blow which you strike.

Eyes closed is NOT a conservative value.

Oh the irony...

“If you hit a nail with a hammer, it will drive said nail into a board.”

Absolutely

“Physics.”

Yup.

“Vote as you wish, I suggest no other option. But know the result of the hammer blow which you strike.”

Voting for a liberal does not result in a remotely conservative outcome, nor can it in any logical way be considered a conservative action. Ergo, one who votes for liberals cannot be considered conservative.

“Eyes closed is NOT a conservative value.”

Indeed.

I completely agree.

If the majority of voters would, actually, vote for Virgil Goode for ‘12 POTUS, instead of voting/not voting any other way, then we would have a true conservative as the next POTUS! Instead, voting conservative in all of the other political races all the way down to the most local levels of political office, and then, having conservatives, truly, moving the POTUS to the political right, is the next best option, as long as this, really, happens. Successfully moving Mitt Romney to the right, politically, may make him a true conservative POTUS, but I doubt that this would happen. Ditto, with such an attempt with BO as POTUS.

I agree with you. The best thing about Perry is that he’s from a large dynamic and successful state. That’s a solid contrast, but I don’t know what happened to him during the debates - bright lights? crowds? national media?

The guy had just had back surgery. Not the ideal time to throw his hat into the ring, when standing for long was painful.

First of all, he's not that great in on-camera interviews to begin with. Someone posted a video of him interviewed on a Texas TV station, no audience, and he looked bad.

But so what? That shouldn't matter to CONSERVATIVES.

Second of all, he did have back surgery and was in a lot of pain.

We disagree on whom to write in, but I will write in the man who has given voice to the most voiceless: The unborn.
And the 53+ million will cheer you from heaven (the Silent Souls for Santorum). If Rick is selected as the v-p, we'll vote for Romney. Otherwise we'll be writing in Rick as well.

BZZT! Wrong. Romney won by tearing down his opponents and leaving a scorched-earth GOP presidential landscape.

A few people seem to be under the impression that Newt, Perry, Santorum, and everyone else WOULDN’T endorse Romney if he won the nomination.

Ron Paul is gonna be the only one that maybe doesn’t. No prominent Republican wants to be responsible for 4 more years of Osama.
