Perry endorses Romney after Gingrich signals an exit

Texas governor Rick Perry announced Wednesday night that he would endorse Mitt Romney's presidential bid, hours the campaign of Newt Gingrich — Perry's previous choice — announced that the former Speaker would be ending his bid for the White House.

"Mitt Romney has earned the Republican Presidential nomination through hard-work, a strong organization, and disciplined message of restoring America after nearly four years of failed job-killing policies from President Obama and his administration," said Gov. Perry in a statement released by his campaign. "So today I join the many conservative Republicans across the nation in endorsing Mitt Romney for President and pledge to him, my constituents and the Republican Party than I will continue to work hard to help defeat President Obama."

..."American jobs, economic stability and national security depend on electing a new president. Mitt's vision and record of private sector success will put America back on the path of job creation, economic opportunity and limited government," Perry said.

Perry was one of the last prominent holdouts to announce support for Romney, opting instead to stay pledged to Gingrich while the former Speaker remained in the race. Other Gingrich supporters, including fellow former presidential hopeful Herman Cain, had signaled that they were coalescing around Romney.

Romney and Perry shared some of the primary campaign's most bitter moments, with Perry accusing the eventual nominee of flip-flopping and Romney's campaign saying he had resorted to "dishonest tactics in order to prop up his flailing campaign."

While Perry struck a supportive tone in his statement Wednesday, he might not be rooting too hard for Romney to succeed. The governor said as recently as last week that he is interested in running for president again in 2016.

“Yeah, I am. I love ....

Ever feel like you want to puke, but you can't--and so you feel so much the worse. -:)

To my fellow Newtsters, stand tall- we know we were right. And props to Gov. Perry. But, here's where I part company with them- it'll be a cold day in Hell before I vote for any GOP-e.

I'm in, til Newt's out (got a few more days).

I have to hold my nose again.

Sorry Jim, but I can’t let obozo have this one because we have fielded obozo light.

My stomach hurts — I mean physically hurts — but it will hurt a lot more if barry and mooch have another 4 years. At least Romney will re-establish our ties with Israel and maybe scare our enemies in the UN at least a little bit.

But the physical pain is palpable.

Well, you gotta do what you gotta do. Personally, I can’t vote for an abortionist/homosexualist statist. No way in hell.

Well, I’m still going to make an effort to vote in the primaries, just to give me the distinct pleasure of voting ‘against’ Romney. It will ultimately be the only vote I particularly care about this year, because there will certainly be no compelling reason anymore to bother in November.

Perry said “So today I join the many conservative Republicans across the nation in endorsing Mitt Romney for President and pledge to him, my constituents and, what was the third thing?......”

Ron Paul: “Your wife?”

Perry: “No, uh....”

Newt: “The Commerce Department?”

Perry: “Ooops.”

Given that Zero has a lock on California, isn’t it time to organize a campaign for somebody we do want?

Very well put-I feel exactly the same way. As much as the though of voting for Mittens sickens me, we must remove Obozo from the White House. So I will vote for him, but I will volunteer or donate money to his campaign. I’m going to focus my energies on electing conservatives in down ticket races.

I would imagine Perry just wanted to get it over with, endorse now instead of having to do so in October. I am still planning to vote for Santorum in the TX primary even though I dislike Santorum’s attack on George Zimmerman without knowing the full story.

I like Newt but I actually like Perry better. He was my first choice when he first announced and I gradually had to give him up when he appeared unable to debate. I’ve since learned it had a lot to do with back surgery and pain, but that’s all irrelevant now, isn’t it? Anyway, I switched to Newt but now that it’s all over I’m back to wishing Perry could have done it. He is definitely the best choice we had, of all of them. He would definitely make the best president. Just not a good campaigner. Too bad.
