Newt Gingrich to officially end bid for Republican presidential nomination and back Mitt Romney, sources tell CNN.

There is a lot of wisdom in your post.
We all lost yesterday, but there is still a country to save.
Only 80 years have passed, but we are on the precipice of another Hitler, in the form of Barack Obama.
ALL Democrats running for office must be defeated--even down to dogcatcher.
The future of you, your children and your grandchildren depends on accomplishing that one goal.
History is serving a warning notice in flashing neon lights. We best heed it.
>> Santorum was going to get most ALL of Missouris delegates, but then he dropped out. <<
Hmm. I wonder if Santorum would still have been able to retain the loyalty of all those MO delegates if, as he must himself had feared, he had suffered a humiliating loss in his home state of PA?
Jim, I had no idea you were a socialist. After all these years. ;)
/johnny
I won't vote for a liberal. And Romney is a liberal.
/johnny
Johnny, this is not going to be like Clinton.
We are talking about someone in Obama who is a front person for a very evil cabal that will take over this country, and it affect every person living here.
I did not write my words lightly.
We are in dangerous times. Some see the storm clouds and recognize them for what they are. Others think they will just blow by.
My tagline says what I believe. There is more urgency in 2012 than ever before. We are embarking on a time in our history where America is passing through a turning point similar to 1860 or 1980.
You can call it hysteria. I am not an hysterical person. But I know that history, if ignored, teaches very painful lessons.
I will vote and campaign for a conservative.
/johnny
Obviously, his campaign has over $4 million in debt and even cut back as it is, still spends more than it's taking in.
The not-Romney / conservatives have given up on their voices being heard.
Silence is consent.
He should soldier forward if the message is still reaching people. I think expectations were higher for Delaware where he took 27% and came second but still go no delegates.
Can’t blame Santorum anymore, can he?
Mitt Romney, without my vote and it appears without the vote of many of my fellow Freepers, and WILL be elected President. The vast majority of Americans want one thing, cheap gasoline and all it brings. When gasoline costs a lot, Americans are force to walk. There is only one thing people hate more than walking. Mass transit.
If Mitt Romney is one thing, it is the caricature of the Republican most fat Americans have in their minds. The American people hate oil companies until they believe the oil companies can lower the price of gas and people can stop taking mass transit again. Most American people believe Republican and oil company is an interchangeable noun.
When Mitt Romney IS elected President (see above), people will realize they have been flim-flammed. They will realize they have actually elected faux-bama; same policies, same ungolden touch, twice the melanin.
We, CONSERVATIVES, are buggered because people will confuse us with Republicans. We are done.
That’s settled.
Santorum is Huckabee redux. The same demographic gave us the same screwing. Thanks demented dwarf Gary Bauer. You owe us.
I personally wanted Palin, then Cain and finally Newt. Didn’t work out that way.
It sucks...the true conservatives have lost this battle (tactical).
Now, if you sit on your A$$ and either don’t vote or vote for write-in, then IMHO your not much better than the dems. Your so fixated on loosing the battle, that your about to loose the whole damn war.
You speak of forcing the death of the republican party, so you can gat a “real” conservative. Hell, there won’t be a country left. I’m personally NOT doing that to my kids, and especially my eldest son....would much rather have Romney as CIC (safer for my son, all around).
Yes, it really is ABO.
That’s my opinion...don’t like it...tough.
On target.
As much as I detest President Zero, and as much as I want to see him depart permanently from the American political stage, I think exit82 does a disservice to the conservative cause by attempting to equate the Big Ø with Hitler.
Hitler's SA and SS thugs were harassing, beating and sometimes killing Jews even before Hitler officially took office. Once he became Chancellor, the pace of these atrocities increased tenfold or more. And by the third year of his reign -- just where we are now with Øbama -- it was increasingly apparent to informed observers that Hitler not only was edging Europe into another world war, but that he also had even worse plans in store for the Jews. Nothing that Øbama has ever said or done comes remotely close, and I fear moreover that equating BHO with AH tends to trivialize the suffering of Hitler's victims.
The above having been said, I believe Larry S. has made an apt and very astute observation about the failure of the anti-Nazis to unite in 1932. The analogy is a good one, and I share the apparent view that America well might face long-term serious and irreparable damage if Øbama's opponents fail sufficiently to unite for the coming campaign.
Word.
Too many people think that this is a debate club and forget that the goal is to win elections. People in politics (the GOP-e, as they are referred to around here) understand that. How do you win elections? You build coalitions, and you do that by having a big tent. When GOPers are trying to build that winning coalition, there are people here screaming about RINOs and GOP-e and sell outs and Lord knows what else.
Those people don’t get it. Those people believe that this is debate club. Buckley was right: you vote for the most conservative person that can win. Some people here still don’t get that.
zot
Say what you like. I won't vote for Romney, in the misplaced hope that the GOP can be persuaded later to please move a little bit to the right.
They can pound sand. Besides, every time they put up a liberal go-along-to-get-along type, they lose.
/johnny
Bla, bla, bla....
“People in politics” have the goal to win elections, but it not for the reason that “the people” want to win elections. We want our great country back, they want to retain power and build empires. Romney is a loser that is trying to buy his reputation back. He promises other politicians things to get their support. As long as they scratch each others backs, they don’t give a crap about we the people.
We the people understand fine. It’s them vs. us. They are winning.
You are wrong. There are two wars here. The war for control of America and the war for control of GOP. Keeping the commies from winning the first war by allowing them to win the second is foolish and more dangerous than allowing Obama to win the election but keeping him in check and at the same time preventing those who bankrupted the country from gaining more control over the GOP.
There were a lot of people in Germany in 1932 who weren’t going to vote for the Catholic Center Party or the Nazis. They were going to vote for a “purer” party. Except the election wasn’t about voting “for” anyone. It was about stopping tyranny, just as it is in 2012.
I agree with much you say-—BO is not yet AH. But I was trying to make a point about ho sometimes elections aren’t at all about voting “ for” anyone, but about stopping an evil before it can grow worse.
Some of his minions here were trying it earlier.
I’m with you on that one.
I won't vote for liberal Romney. Period.
/johnny
Look, the field was bad this year. No one wanted to run. Romney was beatable, and no legitimate candidate stepped up. The fact that Santorum and Gingrich--both single-digit players any other year--got any traction whatsoever shows that the field was just lousy. I didn't see any electable conseratives lining up to run. Did you? Seriously. Who was a good conservative candidate in the race? There was not one.
Say what you like. I won't vote for Romney, in the misplaced hope that the GOP can be persuaded later to please move a little bit to the right.
Like I said before, Buckley was right. Vote for the most conservative person who has a chance to win.
They can pound sand. Besides, every time they put up a liberal go-along-to-get-along type, they lose.
Like who, McCain? Everyone seems to forget that McCain was leading in the polls until Lehman Brothers. Look, McCain wasn't my favorite candidate by a long shot, but to say that McCain lost because he was a moderate and not a conservative is just delusional.
Ok, so what are you going to do about it? If you have a productive answer, I'm all ears.
I won't vote for a liberal, and that includes Romney. Justify yourself voting for a liberal however you like. I won't do it.
/johnny
It is painfully obvious that ABO is code for “Vote for Mitt, cause he’s the only hope we have for beating Obama.”
It is also painfully obvious - ask Ballygirl as if you could - that Jim is serious when he says “No Mitt!”
I guess you’re the “rational” conservative; we can tell by your oh-so-superior air. Tell me: after you’ve thrown out all your conservative principles to be so “rational”, what’s left to call conservative?

I doubt it. There are still Harold Stassen supporters out there and he is now dead and not running.
You must be insane.
That link linked to some obscure blogger making no sense at all.
Then you go and say this?
“Heritage has always been a shelter for RINOs who were out of power. They have presented crony capitalism as free-market over the years. Sarah Palin was right on crony capitalism and Heritage Foundation is one of the groups that feeds off crony capitalism. STOP donating to Heritage if you have ever donated to them.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I don’t know what your beef is with the HF. Don’t care. But if all you have is lame bloggers posting who knows what... then give it up, FRiend.
Now try THIS on for size...
The Heritage Foundations is to American Conservatism as the National Revue is to Social Liberalism.
And the last one in . is worse than Mitt.
Well, I was expecting Always Frosty to get zapped, but not Ballygrl. Oh well, guess I was wrong at my guestimations.
“He’s got what voters need.”
If Santorum is a Jackass, what does that make Newt, a Jackass to the X?Well, there's no way to "like" a comment on Free Republic (or I would), but it's nice to see support for Rick on this forum.
Uh huh. Anyone who envisions millions of Americans just running out into the streets with guns when Obama is reelected is, well, deluded. Be satisfied re-electing Obama. Every choice ultimately comes down to only two. It’s why computers only have 0s and 1s.
How many of these types of articles have we seen in the past seven days? At least a few a day.
I’d say the media is scared Newt might have a chance of winning - as THEY NEED MITT to win so Obama can win.
“Ok, so what are you going to do about it? If you have a productive answer, I’m all ears.”
Frankly, I don’t think there’s a damn thing I can do about it. Romney against Obama has been forced upon us. In todays world, a citizens vote is meaningless. Lobbyists, loyalties and PACs are meaningful.
We had high hopes for the TEA party movement. But, it has been marginalized between 2010 and now. This marginalization of the principles behind the TEA party is embodied by the forced nomination of Mitt Romney. By the establishments choice, they have destroyed the long-standing conservative alliance to republicans.
But if Obama turns out to be Hitler II, he won't have it so easy.
And no, there are always multiple choices.
Like Dole and McCain before him, Romney has no chance, once he's the nominee and the media cranks up their slime machine.
/johnny
Sarah and Todd voted for Newt. Did you? Did you $upport his campaign?
If you didn’t, don’t claim you are on their side but on the ‘any dog will do’ side.
Jim zotted her personally.
/johnny
Then write in Ross Perot. That'll show em!
And the last 5 elections, the GOP has put up a moderate or liberal. No conservatives. Why should you expect a conservative to vote GOP?
/johnny
And here is another article from Reason Foundation that was published in 1993. This confirms that Heritage Foundation was for individual mandate.
Obama agrees.
/johnny
“Santorum did better than Newt, but he never had a chance to win because too many conservatives recognized he could never win a national general election.”
1 - Both Santorum and Newt were second tier, mediocre (at best) candidates.
2 - It amazes me that some Newt supporters are myopic enough to think that Newt could have won the general. Santorum had a better shot by far.
I thought this election would be an inspiration and a chance for conservatism to blossom. Far from it!
However, anyone thinking that another four years of 0 is preferable to Romney is severely delusional. We can’t afford 0’s spending, and we REALLY can’t afford any SCOTUS picks of his.
I’m sure many that’re saying they’ll not vote, or will vote third party will instead come to their senses by November.
Oooo...the eye of ZOT! Buh-bye trolls and disruptors!
You just never know who the Great Cat will zot.
