Santorum: Romney Is ‘The Right Guy’ To Challenge Obama (Barf Alert)
cbslocal.com ^

Posted on 04/25/2012 7:11:03 AM PDT by tsowellfan

Former Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum says he expects to endorse Mitt Romney.

Santorum says that he believes Romney is “the right guy” to challenge President Barack Obama. Still, he’s stopping short of an official endorsement of his former rival.

But Santorum tells CNN that he will ultimately support the GOP presidential nominee. And he says it’s clear that Romney will be that nominee.

Santorum says he plans to meet with some of Romney’s staff on Wednesday. And he hopes to meet with Romney personally in the next week or two.

Santorum once accused Romney of being the worst Republican to face Obama. He consistently questioned Romney’s conservative credentials.

But he now says the priority is to defeat Obama in November.

Newt dropped out this morning - apparently effective next Tuesday.

Nice. Well, I guess it's all over before the rest of America gets to vote. Maybe I'll just vote in the Dem primary and right in someone's name.

It’s time for a genuine Conservative Party.

Yep. I had hopes after the 2008 election when Ron Paul launched his Campaign for Libery web site. I hoped that it would take off and become a true conservative party. Didn't happen.

I don’t think Rick was bought off. I think he was simply being a team player, something that has often gotten him in trouble in the past. Rick ran a good campaign and I’m glad he put up a strong fight for conservative values. But after his primary endorsement of Specter over Toomey several years ago, I’m not surprised to see him endorse Romney in the general election. (Not that there’s anything right with that.)

As of April 10 (the date Rick dropped out), the non-Romney total vote was 6 million. The Romney vote was 5 million. This had nothing to do with all the boogie men in your dreams and everything to do with we conservatives not being able to stick together. If we can't stick together in the R party, how are we going to stick together in the C party? What's the difference? Go back and read FR between Sep'11 and Feb'12 and tell me that ultra extreme sentiments expressed for and against various conservatives (Perry, Gingrich, Bachmann, Paul, Santorum, Cain... all conservative to one degree or another) wouldn't have been expressed had they all been running for the nomination in another party.

The problem isn't in our stars, it's in ourselves.

Bears repeating.

I guess Santorum’s a RINO now. Between him and Newt’s dropping out can we assume FR will be a pro-Ron Paul site for the next few months?

How can anyone reach consensus with so much suckage.

ROTFLMAO!!!!

I agree. However, I contend that the leftist media HATED both Rick & Newt for what they represent and the principles they promote and maintain that some of the suckage was but illusion created by the leftist media and the GOPe -illusion that many here on FR bought and or carried water promoting.

IF Romney gets the nod we will see the true suckage that was hiding behind the curtain

Has Rick Sold His Soul For RINO Mole?

Well, he has not endorsed RINO yet. I will hold my verdict until and if I hear him endorse AND I will base any conclusions upon what Rick actually says versus how it is 'reported'.

“swish...........That’s all my respect for Santorum flying out the window.”

Are you also going to say that when Newt endorses Romney?

I am going to have to take a break from FR. I am getting sick and tired of the sour grapes. In four years, maybe we conservatives should get one candidate in the primary and not split the vote. I doubt it as egos will win again. I hope the “no voters” will take that as a useful task as opposed to the whinning here.

“..But after his primary endorsement of Specter over Toomey several years ago, I’m not surprised to see him endorse Romney in the general election.”

“The Truth Regarding Santorum’s Endorsement of Arlen Specter
October 12, 2011

“The reason I endorsed Arlen Specter is because we were going to have two Supreme Court nominees coming up,” said Santorum. “I got a commitment from Arlen Specter that no matter who George W. Bush would nominate, he would support that nominee.”

excerpt http://blog.lisagraas.com/2011/10/12/the-truth-regarding-santorums-endorsement-of-arlen-specter/

Santorum said Alito would not be a Justice if it weren’t for Specter.

Specter was very effective at being the head of the Judicial Committee. Toomey would not have been the Judicial Committee leader, plus Toomey might have lost the election at that time. Specter won the election by a good margin.

Obama is the worst president we’ve ever had, and I really thought I’d be seeing the map turn RED in the General Election as it did with Reagan, and we’d have a CONSERVATIVE POTUS once again.

This is such a sad time in our lives.

But I don’t blame Santorum, or Newt, for eventually endorsing Romney, because our country just can’t take four more years of Obama - SO MANY experts say that.

Rick Santorum endorsed Romney only SIX DAYS before Romney dropped out - hardly a ringing endorsement.

And Rick only endorsed him because he felt he was the best of the remaining candidates.

Let's not leave out Santorum's other statement which was that Romney "is the real conservative".
