Despite speculation that he might drop out of the presidential race soon, Newt Gingrich said he is pressing on during an exclusive interview with NewsChannel 36 anchor Dave Wagner Tuesday afternoon.
These reports somehow get exaggerated, Gingrich. We have 23 events this week What I did say was that we are going to evaluate actively and honestly what has happened here.
Gingrich spent part of Tuesday at the Billy Graham library with his wife and campaign staff. He is expected at an event Tuesday night in Concord as well.
Under any circumstance we are going to be at every single event we outlined this week and our expectation is that well continue to campaign until Romney gets to 1144 delegates.
I think it is very important for the voters to be the people who decide, not the news media or the campaign consultants, Gingrich added.

The end has passed. It's like when a professional football team is down 48-0 in the 4th quarter with 5 minutes left. You pull your best players and don't risk injury because there is no possible way to win the game. You live to fight another day. There is no math that makes Newt the nominee. There is no serious path to stopping Romney from getting the delegates he needs. Newt is not running a real campaign now and hasn't been for awhile. He is collecting cash from people to help pay down his debt, and running around trying to enjoy the spotlight before it fades away.
George Washington won because he fought in the right places at the right time. Fighting to the bitter end in the wrong places, or fighting in the wrong time and place, can destroy your campaign.
Newt is Braxton Bragg. Taking soldiers, men, manpower and money, holding what wasn’t going to be lost and taking them away from Lee, when he needed every man he could get. Sure, the odds were against Lee, but you need to put the manpower where it can actually defeat the enemy, not waste them elsewhere with Bragg.
Now that Lee was defeated in PA, Bragg holds GA and SC, but he will be utterly crushed. Defeat at this point is inevitable. Thanks Newt.
Milt Romney is Benedict Arnold.
If you want George Washington, Romney is elsewhere.
Thanks VinL.
Well, if you decide you are defeated you are. If everybody thought like that, we might as well give up before we get started, you can always come up with a good reason to quit. How many years have we been shrugging our shoulders and saying “Oh well, we’ll just try again four years from now.” This might be the last ball game for the U.S. I don’t think we can survive with any semblance of freedom if we don’t put an end to Obamacare and socialist policies. There might not be another day to live to fight to. Let’s put some points on the board.
Obama would love to invite this jerk to a BBQ, woof.
Newt also said tonight in his speech Conservatives need to be 100% behind the nominee. And he knows who the nominee will be.
Newt may be Bragg in mental stability. In regards to Lee, his focus on Virginia and the East might have been the strategic blunder that lost the war. The Confederacy was destroyed in the West. Lee’s failure to realize that and his two offensives to the North that wasted valuable resources that the South did not have. Lee was a brilliant tactical commander, but he lacked the strategic picture. Jefferson Davis had a better handle on that in his advocacy of a purely defensive fight, and a Davis had his eye on the West more than Lee did.
Agreed, but the fight at this point is to deny delegates, and we need to consolidate behind either Paul or Gingrich. If Gingrich blew Paul out of the water, he’d have won my vote tonight as spoiler. That didn’t happen.
Paul btw wins delegates in Rhode Island (4 from the Congressional district), and may win some more in CT and in New York.
Would have been interesting to see a campaign in the west.
Texas ended up nearly saving the whole kit’n’kaboodle.
The problem is purely logistics. Concentrations of troops over to the west would have taken a long time, and the threat was a union knockout blow in the east. Lee would have had to build fortifications to stop the Army of Virginia, who’s sole job was to tie up Lee in the East.
Lee saw things this way. He couldn’t knock the north out with a Western Campaign, he had to fight and win in the East, and he knew that a long struggle would lose the war. The war was lost not with the armies but the Navies. The north could afford to build both, while the South couldn’t.
This was the Anaconda plan. Any western offensive wouldn’t have solved the strategic problems in the South wrt supply + munitions.
Well those are two good points. The other one I can think of is that he appears to be the the only one with even a very remote chance of stopping Mitt, the other Government Sachs candidate... the white meat option.
Oops, another one, he doesn't lie for a living.
A-fricken-men. We can’t win with him. Any money spent on him, is funding the British, as if it were to go to the King personally and deliver it to him.
Are any of you one of those fools, tools, trolls, or sleepers that associate with, or hire, or do any business whatsoever with anyone from these groups that voted for Obama in these percentages in 2008? :

I'm proud of Newt for being the last Conservative standing...and I was Proud to vote for him today...he hasn't swayed from his intentions and stayed the course with ‘all’ against him....and he's not letting the media nor the other candidates determine if or when he's out...he's going the distance he feels is right for this country and I'm glad that he is.
Right on the money friend!!! Anybody But Obama!!!
An interesting thought. Is it possible that Free Republic might be used in the fall to campaign for Obama? That would be unreal.
>>The icebergs on the starboard bow
>>Wont you dance with me newt....
Screw that. I’m findin’ a Tea kettle to paddle with a stick.
People don’t have to be excited about a candidate they vote for; they just have to be excited enough to vote against the other candidate.
If nothing else, Romney is close friends with Netanyahu. It will be far easier to vote for someone who cares about Israel and to vote against someone who apparently despises it.
This site is not to promote Romney by the way.
Romney supporters are getting brave.
This is all I need to hear! This means Newt is fighting til the bitter end and that's what matters!
If by some miracle Romney doesn't make it then conservatives have a chance to totally wreak havoc on the GOPe and even if Romney does get 1144, I'm not sure we still won't raise Cain, I don't see how conservatives can afford not too! I know one thing either way The GOPe/RNC/rinos/moderates are going have to deal with a conservative can of whoop ass! I see no other choice for conservatives at this point to either fight or outright give the republican party the middle finger salute and walk because I'm personally sick of this crap!
To all you Romney supporters, have fun with this election because it is going to be pretty dismal for you rino supporting traitor ABO kissasses!
If that's the case how is FR different than MoveOn or DU?
Who says FR is different in wanting to keep TRAITORS out??? This is a CONSERVATIVE site, why would we want to discuss supporting rino/moderate/GOPe/liberal/socialist/marxist idiots!
The only RULE is, GFY!
All it takes is one social conservative, scripture quoting candidate to enter the race and play spoiler like Huckabee or Santorum and the remaining conservative vote splinters to pieces..
...but that same dynamic holds true for the lefty’s as well...we don’t see it this year because Obama is unopposed...next time around, I’m looking forward to the Dem’s and their internecine warfare to riddle their chances at the WH in 2016, at which time I believe if Jesus Himself were to run for them, they would be soundly defeated, because of their dissension...and they’ll be the ones making ridiculous comments on their blogs about ‘purity’ and ‘remaining true to liberal principle’ when their ideological soulmates are making quixotic clowns out of themselves by running up debt and finishing primaries with single digit numbers...
...it’s probably true that Obama wins a second term, and that Romney’s political career will be over after November, though of course anything is possible...but looking at the electoral college map, and the swing state’s polling data, Romney’s got a real mountain to climb...but if he does win, and the country doesn’t implode, it will be interesting to see what the posters on this forum have to say about him...
When told Romney is their only choice, people stayed home!..
...and you take that to be a lack of ‘groundswell’ support for Romney? Looks more like laziness because this race is settled already...has nothing at all to do with enthusiasm in November, when nothing will be settled and the votes matter...
To all you Romney supporters, have fun with this election because it is going to be pretty dismal for you rino supporting traitor ABO kissasses!
...OK, Barack Hussein, if you say so...
Newt reminds me more and more of Milton Waddams in Office Space.
“actually, he doesn’t work here anymore, he just doesn’t know it”
LOL
Right -- I'll bet the halls of the Dems are resounding with jubilation today.
According to Romney in a widely quoted NYT interview, which seems to be the only source. Yes, they've known each other since their time at Boston Consulting Group in 1976 and have had intermittent contact, but I don't see any similar affirmation from Netanyahu, only a wishy-washy quote from an aide.
Nothing in the local (MA) gossip suggests that Romney knows what a "close friend" is.
True. It’s a no brainer.
Romney is a horrible candidate.
Newt has the potential—based on his record, what he’s been saying and the lessons he’s learned in life—to be as good as or better than Ronald Reagan.
There’s nothing to lose in throwing all our support behind Gingrich.
Romney won all the northeast states. Surprise, surprise. How many would he win in November. I’d bet none.
Do we want the whole country to look like Massachusetts when Romney was governor? I hope not.
...the 41st President of the United States.
Thank you for the enriching political discussion regarding the topic of the thread.
Go ahead cast your LOSING vote, no matter what the result, the republican party and America loses, horribly.
What astounds me is some conservatives can't understand the "absolute" detrimental effect of this GOPe/rino vote. For everybody else, it doesn't matter at this point...Some are just too ignorant of history to understand.
Oh yes it does. We chatted with the poll workers. They said no one was enthusiastic, more fatalistic. And that the primary was not well advertised or promoted.
Romney is a loser.
And they weren't. And I'm not the only FReeper that's talking about empty polling places.
I proudly supported Newt in the GA primary, and will continue to do so. The Romneybots hate to hear the truth, but here it is: IF YOU VOTE FOR ROMNEY, YOU ARE BLATANTLY SUPPORTING MARXISM. Goooooooooooo NEWT!!!!!
Frankly I think it’s kind of a dumb decision.
That being said, hey, more power to him. I agree with you. If he annoys the Blue Bloods and Lamestream media than this makes me happy.
I voted for Newt yesterday here in the swamps of Delaware.
He did the best in Delaware yesterday, garnering 27% of the vote.
He would have won this state but recent happenstances changed and affected so much.
First, Santorum and Paul were BOTH on the Delaware Republican primary ballot yesterday. Between those two, about 12% of the vote was likely siphoned from Newt.
Second, there’d been big rumors last week that Newt was cancelling his North Carolina appearances and, while Newt’s campaign denied, it greatly affected the turnout.
Voter turnout was very lackluster yesterday. Had all that crap last week not been thrown out there to be repeated hysterically by the media (and to make me wonder if it wasn’t some operative in the Romney campaign somehow making this happen) I believe turnout would have been higher.
In short, I’m quite certain that Delaware, where we kicked out Mike Castle and voted in Christine O’Donnell to great ridicule, would be Newt all the way over Romney given a fair and vibrant primary.
Fox reporting Newt is “wrapping up campaign” in a week and “will probably endorse Romney” on that day...
What? Are you referring to the Gallup/USAToday 'poll'?
The one that sampled "Registered voters" not "Likely voters"?
The one that included 7 Bobo-in-2008 states the GOP nom doesn't need to win? [CO, IA, MI, NH, NM, PA, WI]
PA & MI included as "swing states" when the last time those two of those large states went GOP was 1998?
Indiana excluded from a swing state poll despite going for Obama in 2008?
Here's what you need to know: The Electoral Math of 2012 greatly favors the challenger... 2008 + IN, NC, FL, NV, VA, OH = 271EV.
24 years ago. That swing state poll was pure bs.
In my district the poll workers were likewise. Some actually stated, "What are we voting for" with arms swung up! Distraught over Romney proclaiming his win before he had the delegates, and the media vocally shutting out the election and claiming Romneys win so that any who voted would indeed check Romney....and many followed the pitch.
The MSM suppressed the vote. The advocacy journalism is blatantly obvious.
The media has power it should not have, but like the candidates, money does move these machines. They own.. 'the message'... the public is to get, regardless of reality, and will paint whatever picture is necessary to position who they will favorably... and destroy those otherwise.
The media has always had power. They were infiltrated by the left and started using that power to push their POV. And the sheep haven’t caught on.
2 FReepers last night stated "I will actively campaign for Obama now."
No it wasn't sarcastic.
I can understand people staying home or voting for a write in.
But if these FReepers will be posting Obama / Biden 12 Propaganda here, then you will see a mass exodus.
Since I cannot find their posts I'm assuming the Mods deleted it, which is a comforting thing.
Most FReepers voted for Newt or Santorum, none of us who voted that way have told people to vote for Mitt Romney.
But when FReepers tell people to vote for Obama, that is offensive to me.
None of my conservative aquaintances will vote for Romney.
He has the same chance as Dole and McCain.
/johnny
Found it! Please don't try and twist this statement Katie you know what JRandomFreeper means in this statement.
FR is against RINOs! And I support FReepers in their beliefs but this is not a forum to support Barack Hussein Obama!!!
