Newt Gingrich hinted he may withdraw from the presidential race if he has a poor showing in the Delaware primary Tuesday
"I think we need to take a deep look at what we are doing...We will be in North Carolina tomorrow night and we will look and see what the results are."
"This has been a good opportunity for us, we have been here seeing a lot of people, Gingrich said. We have got really positive responses and I would hope we would do well here either carry it or come very, very close."
..."Romney is clearly the frontrunner but that doesn't mean he is inevitable. It is very dangerous for frontrunners to start behaving like they are inevitable because the voters might decide thats not so true. Frankly, I think it is a mistake for Romney to kick-off his general election campaign tomorrow in New Hampshire. He has about half the votes he needs to be nominated."
Speculation remains high that Gingrich will exit the GOP race this week, especially he rescheduled his trip to North Carolina several times.
Gingrich's future hinges on Delaware
The Speaker heads to North Carolina tomorrow for a tour of the Billy Graham Library. The campaign also added an "election night rally" in the Charlotte area, which Gingrich has not held since late February.
As Gingrich remains in the race, his Secret Service detail remains alongside him. As questions are raised about the cost to taxpayers while the Speaker continues campaigning with an entourage of agents, Gingrich says he sees no problem with it and finds it "goofy" that people question if he should get rid of the detail.
"I mean, I am a candidate. We have exactly what we are legally...

Newts had to fly under the radar for the last month. But, tomorrow night, hes scheduled a kick-off event in NC. I hope it means that he expects to win Delaware- and that hes back in open opposition to Romney in NC.
His Pac has squirreled away $6M- and wouldnt be surprised if the Adelsons dont pop for another $5M in April so long as Newt has a chance.
Next month could be the most fun we Newsters have had since January.
Im in, til Newts out.
Feel it’s like beating a dead horse.
They keep hoping he’ll drop out.
I keep hoping he won’t.
Speaking of Delaware, I think he may have a fairly decent chance of winning it. While the state as a whole is pretty Blue, the rank-and-file Republicans are pretty conservative. They’re the same folks who nominated Christine O’Donnell over Mike Castle. Hopefully, the breakdown of RINOs to conservatives will be about the same tomorrow, and give Newt a much needed win!
What the hell is wrong with p[eople.
Are they friggin blind
Romney is crap. If he beats Obama what have we got? Crap.
When Santorum started to win several states, calls for Newt to withdraw were rebutted on the ground that if he did that, Romney would surely get to the magic number before Tampa. As it is now, Santorum has suspended his campaign. Wouldnt the same logic, Romney would get the nomination sooner than Tampa since some of the supporters of the withdrawn candidate would go to him, apply here?
I’m with you. I think he’s going to surprise everyone in May and June.
To the extent that I understand your question- yes- it would have been better for both Rick and Newt to have continued to double team Romney.
Yes, Romney split the conservative vote— but viable candidacies from Rick and Newt would have split Romney’s money.
Neither Rick or Newt could compete with Romney one on one New- they had to act in concert
I never believe a word the media says about anything. The only time I do believe is when it comes from Newts mouth. The media can go to &*%^!!
Stick with it Newt!!
Thanks for the reply. Now we just have to wait how big the migration from Santorum to Romney is. Tomorrow we might get the answer.
The lamestream media is constantly translating what Newt says into stuff he didn’t say. Newt has said over and over that he is in it all the way to Tampa. Period. He is tatooing on Brian Williams’ forehead right now.
Prediction- Romney gets most of Rick’s vote- for now.
If Newt can draw it out into May- I think that changes.
Brian Williams should be forced to get a NEWT ALL THE WAY TO TAMPA tatoo on his forehead for reporting another false story.
Lies, lies and more damn lies.
Amen.
Bump!
I’m voting for NEWT tomorrow!!!! Proud to do so too!
I can’t write what I really want to say about the media, I’m already having to ask the Lord to forgive me for thinking it!!!!!
Well this may be why Santorum’s held out his delegates....had he given them to Newt it would have moved him along and certainly given the media heads up....but Romneys doing so many nasty dirty backstreet deals, and I will add Santorums in it with him, that the whole thing worse than stinks.

Newts'NC video-
Im in, til Newts out.
Newt said he will reassess after DE, and before NC. What candidate wouldn't reassess after a primary day, like tomorrow.. and how does that get translated to hinting at dropping out... what if his reassessment portends that he is stronger now than he's been in awhile... In other words, no one knows...
Newt is tired, we are all tired. But this has been going on since Friday, first DE, NC and a friend of mine told me the rumor mill in TX is going crazy that he HAS already dropped out. it tells me Romney's crowd is worried and Newt isn't going away like they thought he would... They did the same thing to him in Nevada, remember?
Trust Newt. We have trusted him this far, we can going forth.
Santorum is still trying to divide the conservative vote. He is doing a lot of stealth stuff in PA, urging his supporters to vote for him there, and other places. And he is teaming up with Beck to get a christian conservatives movement going, to work down ticket, and vote for Romney, under the guise of working against Obama. I think he will put off endorsing Romney as long as he can.
What an opportunity he has missed, to deny his ego, get over his holier-than-thou self-righteous superiority, and do the right thing for his country.
Here's the cute thing: If Newt keeps doing well, the more Romney/GOP will press for Santorum to endorse Romney. And when Santorum does that, he is finished. And his supporters still supporting him against Romney will likely flock to Newt, as the santorum romneybots are already there. He is playing this cute little game, and believing his moment won't come. It will, and everybody will know what he's made of...
Santorum’s doings need some exposure. I haven’t a clue, but to be sure, it’s all about whatever advantages Rick, as he ingratiates himself with the cabal in DC as he has thru’ out his career, this time by pandering to the religious Right on behalf of the liberal. He wants on that ticket at all costs.
What they should have learned after nominating Christine O'Donnell is that losing with someone who represents your passions is still losing. If the TEA Party people had pushed a candidate more qualified and less confrontational than Christine O'Donnell but less liberal than Mike Castle, they might have won a Senate seat in a state that had been steadily Democrat for a long time. We probably wouldn't have wound up with someone who was perfectly conservative on every issue, but we would have picked up an important vote in the Senate for six years.
The REAL lesson from the Delaware Senate race in 2010 is that when the GOP-E doesn’t get the candidate it wants, it will sabotage it’s own party’s chances. That’s what the GOP-E did. They refused to support her campaign to any degree. They ran her down in the media. they even implicitly supported her Marxist opponent.
Christine O’Donnell’s flaws as a candidate could have been dealt with. Every candidate who runs for their first major office needs to have coaching and counsel, but the politically experienced GOP-Ers refused to give her this.
Her conservatism isn’t what killed her run. The GOP-E sabotage did.
And now this same crowd wants conservatives to support the guy that they’ve finagled into the nomination, often by underhanded means? I don’t think so.
Well he got at least one vote today. From me.

He'll be gettin' a vote from me in an hour or so :-)
Dittos.
Would that be "speculation" within the NBC newsroom? ;-)
Gladly Presented Voter ID !
+1
Rohrer for Senate
Marino for House
Absolutely true. Tried so to warn people. They knew he would pull the religious right via social issues. Dang shame this guy would not be seen as he is.
He's just waiting for Newt to drop out before he brings his delegates to Romney. This way he can "safe face" and claim Newt's not running.
LOL....Am off to vote for Newt and conservatives down the line here in Pa!
Go Newt Go!!!! It ain’t over til Newt says it’s over...and nobody’s crossed that finish line yet!
This makes it pretty final.
Newt Gingrich plans to formally leave the Republican presidential race next Tuesday, senior campaign aides told Fox News, after struggling for months to turn around his sagging bid for the White House.
...
For several weeks, Gingrich staffers have been reviewing accounts and making preparations. Gingrich had been holding out hope for a strong performance at least in Delaware Tuesday night. Absent that, Gingrich decided to plan for his exit next week.
He will complete his North Carolina schedule this week, making it something of a goodbye tour while supporters, friends and family arrive from across the country for his departure from the race.
Earlier on the trail, Gingrich signaled Wednesday morning that he was preparing to drop out. Telling a breakfast gathering of county Republicans in North Carolina that it’s clear Romney will be the nominee, Gingrich said the campaign is “working out the details of our transition” and will have more information in the coming days.
“I think you have to be honest at some point about what’s happening in the real world as opposed to what you’d have like to have happened,” Gingrich said, praising the front-runner’s primary performances Tuesday night.
“This guy has worked for six years, put together a big machine, and has put together a serious campaign,” he said. “I think obviously that I would be a better candidate, but the objective fact is that the voters didn’t think that.”
Gingrich said he plans to complete his campaign schedule in North Carolina, which runs through Friday, but “I want you to know that I’ve been coming here a long time as a citizen, I’m going to keep coming as a citizen, I have a schedule through the rest of the week as a citizen.”
Gingrich said that he and Callista are still committed to going to Tampa, but made it clear that they would be attending as Romney supporters and not as spoilers for the nomination.
“I do think it’s pretty clear that Gov. Romney is ultimately going to be the nominee and we’re going to do everything we can to make sure that he is, in fact, effective and that we as a team are effective both in winning this fall and then, frankly, in governing,” he said.
Yes it is final for Newt. I’m proud that he remained in as long as he did and with all the powers that be pushing against him. Romney spent $20+ Million against Newt ....we should start calling Newt the “ 20 Million Dollar Man” just to rub it into Romney’s face it cost him......and that very fact showed the length and breadth the power of money will go.
Im in, til Newts out.
****************************************************
Me too. But the last several posts indicate he is getting out next week. Say it isn’t so.
Well, I’m very sad about Newt. :(
I’m not voting for Romney.
The GOP e can shove it.
Right there with you.
No Romney, No way.
I remain praying for Divine Intervention.
Nothing is set in cement.
A lot can and will happen between now and the convention.
that’s true; I remain in prayer, like you. :)
