Shift on executive power lets Obama bypass rivals
New York Times ^ | 4/23/2012 | Charlie Savage

Posted on 04/23/2012 7:16:30 AM PDT by IbJensen

— One Saturday last fall, President Obama interrupted a White House strategy meeting to raise an issue not on the agenda. He declared, aides recalled, that the administration needed to more aggressively use executive power to govern in the face of Congressional obstructionism.

-snip-

But increasingly in recent months, the administration has been seeking ways to act without Congress. Branding its unilateral efforts “We Can’t Wait,” a slogan that aides said Mr. Obama coined at that strategy meeting, the White House has rolled out dozens of new policies — on creating jobs for veterans, preventing drug shortages, raising fuel economy standards, curbing domestic violence and more.

Each time, Mr. Obama has emphasized the fact that he is bypassing lawmakers.

-snip-

Aides say many more such moves are coming. Not just a short-term shift in governing style and a re-election strategy, Mr. Obama’s increasingly assertive use of executive action could foreshadow pitched battles over the separation of powers in his second term, should he win and Republicans consolidate their power in Congress.

-snip-

Mr. Obama has issued signing statements claiming a right to bypass a handful of constraints — rejecting as unconstitutional Congress’s attempt to prevent him from having White House “czars” on certain issues, for example. But for the most part, Mr. Obama’s increased unilateralism in domestic policy has relied on a different form of executive power than the sort that had led to heated debates during his predecessor’s administration: Mr. Bush’s frequent assertion of a right to override statutes on matters like surveillance and torture.

There is a good argument to be made that the only time the GOP acts a little conservative is when they are a minority and the Pres. is a Dem.

The GOP showed their true colors with Pres. Bush.

I don't have the answer, but I know simply voting for the two main parties is not the solution.

Every election is the last most crucial one. 'We will change' after this election. We will change the party!. hah! Every election is the same.

Besides, running for pres is easy.

All you gots to do is establish True Conservative bona fides, then convince 70 million people that you are in fact a True Conservative, and the ring is yours.

See, simple enough.

After all, how hard can it be to round up 70 million like minded people, who agree, just like you, on everything?

Romney's first Executive Order should be to rescind all EOs. He should do this at the podium, before, his inaugural address.

Can we even IMAGINE what Congress would do if a Republican, Conservative President would use Executive Orders to undo the Nanny-State?

I still believe a sooner-rather-than-later Military Coup D'Etat/Do-Over is necessary to get back to the U.S. Constitution, along with sh$t-canning all the Liberal Judges planted throughout the country now.

The coming chaos from the Obama-Soertoro playbook

...Who is Barack Hussein Obama II, a/k/a Barry Soetoro? To fully understand what is taking place today, and more importantly, what is being planned for tomorrow, we must identify the actors involved in fomenting chaos. Let’s first consider the meteoric rise of the virtually unknown community organizer Barack Hussein Obama II, a/k/a Barry Soetoro.

...we have the Obama-Soetoro legend, manufactured by… whom? And why?

We are at the end of the democratic phase, and the beginning of tyranny.

In a generation or so, the Senate and House will just be a formality that old rich guys fight to join for the cool factor.

The problem is there are more of them (liberals) than there are conservatives, ... Conservatives have the edge in the House. But when ANY LEGISLATION is passed and sent it is sent to the Senate; Reed will not bring it before the committee. Thus no vote is taken. Grid LOCK.
Neither one can force the other to act, so it is a Mexican stand off.

No one is really willing to attack Obama’s policies or actions.

Cause they know there is no way to get enough votes for it to cause effective actions.!!!!!!

STYME!!!!!

Agree with all you say except “deserves nothing more than a trial at the International Criminal Court iof the Hague.”

Don’t want to IMO legitimize the ICC.
