Shift on executive power lets Obama bypass rivals
New York Times ^ | 4/23/2012 | Charlie Savage

— One Saturday last fall, President Obama interrupted a White House strategy meeting to raise an issue not on the agenda. He declared, aides recalled, that the administration needed to more aggressively use executive power to govern in the face of Congressional obstructionism.

-snip-

But increasingly in recent months, the administration has been seeking ways to act without Congress. Branding its unilateral efforts “We Can’t Wait,” a slogan that aides said Mr. Obama coined at that strategy meeting, the White House has rolled out dozens of new policies — on creating jobs for veterans, preventing drug shortages, raising fuel economy standards, curbing domestic violence and more.

Each time, Mr. Obama has emphasized the fact that he is bypassing lawmakers.

-snip-

Aides say many more such moves are coming. Not just a short-term shift in governing style and a re-election strategy, Mr. Obama’s increasingly assertive use of executive action could foreshadow pitched battles over the separation of powers in his second term, should he win and Republicans consolidate their power in Congress.

-snip-

Mr. Obama has issued signing statements claiming a right to bypass a handful of constraints — rejecting as unconstitutional Congress’s attempt to prevent him from having White House “czars” on certain issues, for example. But for the most part, Mr. Obama’s increased unilateralism in domestic policy has relied on a different form of executive power than the sort that had led to heated debates during his predecessor’s administration: Mr. Bush’s frequent assertion of a right to override statutes on matters like surveillance and torture.

Obama will be much worse than Clinton or Carter.

Obama is already responsible for the unecessary deaths of thousands of people in Kenya and Libya, and not a soul in the media will call him on it.

And Obama will continue to cause death and destruction in the future if allowed. IMHO Obama is a thug who deserves nothing more than a trial at the International Criminal Court iof the Hague.

“Anything to keep that two bit mormon skank and her husband out of the oval office.”

Bingo. It’s called tough love.

“Really?? You think it would be much worse with Romney as POTUS than Owebama? I am no fan of Romney’s, but you are out of your freaking mind!”

If Romney gets in with a Republican Congress, he’ll be unrestrained. Not only that, if Romney gets elected, the GOPe will give us more of the same.

We have to take a stand!

There is another thing you can do that would not necessarily help 0bama destroy America.

If you’re in a state that is not in contention, either it’s definitely going to either 0bama or GOP and there is no chance of it deciding the electoral count,

vote libertarian, and get their numbers up to 5%.

We have to take a stand!

How about a 1000 of us volunteer to self immolate every time the mormon goes up a per cent in the polls.

That should get the attention of the GOP E.

JimRob says no to that.
And there’s no way to indicate party affiliation on a general election ballot.

How about we all write in, Jim Robinson?

Nah, he's not running.

Besides, some might mistake him for Thompson.

has to be someone with whom we can send a message, because afterall, that is what it is all about.

The GOPE must be brought to their collective knees.

It is solely thier fault that the majority of voters did not pick Newt, or Sarah, or Ricks(s), or (cough) Paul.

Hey, I got it, just don't cast a ballot, the ultimate protest!

The precise game plan that the Center for American Progress laid on his desk 24 hrs. after the polls closed in November, 2010.

The ink was already dry.

Four more years of this? Not even close. Four years of that sick clown running the country without regard for getting re-elected. That’s a level of crap Ed Norton’s never even experienced.

That’s right. Staying home is a good option, but to send them a message, we need to write someone in who is a true conservative.

My only problem is finding a true conservative.

My only problem is finding a true conservative.

Balderdash.

There are millions of them.

Why, just right here on FR, the place is teeming with 'em.

And if this place is a reflection of the general electorate, which it most certainly is, then there are probably 70-80 million out there who are True Conservatives.

Finding a king with real clothes should not be a difficult chore.
