Adelsons give Gingrich super PAC another $5 million
The Washington Post ^ | April 23, 2012 | Aaron Blake

Posted on 04/23/2012 5:58:34 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

.....many assumed the Adelsons had stopped funding the former House speaker’s campaign.

The super PAC spent just $1.5 million in March, even though the month featured several Southern primaries in which Gingrich ostensibly could have performed well. But the fresh infusion of Adelson money came in after Super Tuesday on March 6, after primaries a week later in Alabama and Mississippi (where Gingrich placed a respectable second and the super PAC spent about $1 million combined) and just a few days before Louisiana, where the super PAC did spend some money.

Because of the late nature of the donation, Winning Our Future still had $5.8 million cash on hand at the end of March. And since then, the super PAC has not spent any of it on specific primaries, meaning it is likely still sitting on several million dollars that can be used in future contests.

That will be about the only thing keeping Gingrich on TV. His campaign showed more than $4 million in debt in its campaign finance filing on Friday, compared to just $1.2 million cash on hand.

The media desperately wants to pretend that Newt has gone the way of Dick Clark. In the coming primaries, if everyone who doesn't like Mitt stands together and supports Newt, it would send a powerful message.

Granted, the math isn't there and the number of delegates that Mitt will eventually get will ensure his nomination -- but it should be obvious at the convention that actual Republicans don't like Mitt. I know it's "Mitt's turn" but strong support for Newt in the face of an inevitable Mitt win might get the GOP-e thinking.

Personally, I voted for Newt in my primary, and I have no intention of voting for Mitt in November.

Good to See Newt being kept a float.I know I might not be exactly 100% for him. But now that he is the only one left and been actively after Romney then he is one person I could back. In fact, he has grown on me. I am happy he is fighting the good fight. I would have been behind Newt had he kept on winning after South Carolina and Georgia.

At the moment I’m keeping my options open. I will support Virgil Goode, who the constitution party nominated, if need be.

Interesting move. I wonder if Adelson has been holding out for some sort of promise or guarantee that Romney hasn’t wanted to make.

And I imagine he’s glad the anti-gambling Santorum is out of the picture.

I see Adelson and his wife as patriots and conservatives.

"...the number of delegates that Mitt will eventually get will ensure his nomination..."

Aaaaah... the subtleties of shilling for romney. Tell us Mr. ClearCase_guy, are you a prophet of God? How do you know that obombney will be the Republican nominee? How can you be absolutely certain that any of the three Republican candidates will win the nomination? What if there is a brokered convention? Is it possible that another, maybe more desirable candidate might emerge and take the whole thing? Or... What will happen if all you obombney supporters really did act as conservatives and decided to support the one and only true conservative still in the race? What would happen then?

I find it amusing how McCain tried to pass himself off as a conservative (and we all see how well that went over huh) and now obombney is trying to convince us he's a conservative; just like those of you that support him. Do you really think a real conservative will, once again, support a liberal just because he 'says' he's a conservative?
For the record romney doesn't even have half the delegates needed to win the nomination and for the most part the South hasn't voted. This thing is far from over.

You claim to have voted for Newt? Judging by your post you're telling us you "wasted" your vote. Is that right? And if so why would you tell us that? Because you don't want us to "waste" our vote by voting for Newt? Can you see how your post looks like an ad placed here by an obombney shill to get us to NOT 'waste' our votes and instead vote for obombney?

Well it certainly looks like that to me.

Forgive me. I do wish to give you the benefit of the doubt and I do wish to believe that you've already voted for Newt. Problem is we are lied to so much by people trying to deceive us into thinking they are one of us that when I see something that looks and smells like total bs my spidey sense flares up and I have to investigate.

If you are in fact true to your word I pray you will continue to support Newt and encourage everyone you know to do the same.

JMHO

Interesting that polling has vanished in the upcoming NE Super Tuesday vote......

The MSM and the GOP-e can’t afford to have anyone moving up in the polls against Mitt.

Since Santorum removed himself from the primary, you know that the numbers should be moving around, but now we have polling crickets....

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm

I resent your insults. They are entirely uncalled for. I live in MA. I know all I need to know about Romney. I'm not voting for him. I'm not shilling for Romney and I think you have to be seriously confused to think that I was.

You owe me an apology.

Newt staying in, makes me wonder if he knows something about Mitt: Something that would create a crisis and a withdrawal. Didn't we have a VP nominee a few years back that had to withdraw before the election?

Mitt like BO have presented an image of themselves to the public. We know that BO’s is a front. Is Mitt's a front too?

I’ve seen your posts and know you are no Romneybot.

some might think because of this part of your post:

“granted, the math isn’t there and the number of delegates that Mitt will eventually get will ensure his nomination.. I know it’s Mitt’s turn... in the face of an inevitable Mitt win ...”

that you are trying to create a sense of inevitability of a Romney nomination, rather than making your own assessment of the situation, or that perhaps you have just lost heart or willingness to fight on, but you must always remember—

Did we give up after the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?

What cuts does Goode want to make in the Defense Dept? Goode has been a democrat, independent and now the constitution party.

Goode endorsed Wilder for gov of Va and Wilder was pro choice and anti gun. NO to Goode!
Wilder had a comfortable lead in the last polls before the election. The unexpected closeness of the election may have been due to the Republicans’ strong “get out the vote” efforts. Wilder had been candid about his “pro-choice” position in relation to abortion. Some observers believed the close election was due to what is known as the “Bradley effect”; they suggested that white voters were more likely to tell pollsters that they would support non-white candidates in given contests than to actually cast their votes for them.

During his tenure as governor, Wilder worked on crime and gun control initiatives. He also worked to fund Virginia’s transportation initiatives, effectively lobbying Congress to reallocate highway monies to those states with the greatest needs.[3] Much residential and office development had taken place in Northern Virginia without the state’s receiving sufficient federal money for infrastructure improvements to keep up. He also succeeded in passing state bond issues to support improving transportation. In May 1990 Wilder ordered state agencies and universities to divest themselves of any investments in South Africa because of its then policy of apartheid, making Virginia the first Southern state to take such action.

Not really...we on Newt threads know the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor...accidental slips notwithstanding...and more importantly, Newt is a history expert, which always helps sustain his candidacy and his support.

We’ve been told the Adelson’s gave to Newt in order to help Romney.

In that same vein, people said Newt had to know he was only helping Romney by staying in the race, so he and the Adelsons were in cahoots for Romney.

How does that go, NOW??

Newt helping Romney NOW by staying in the race??

Hmmmmmmmmm?

The Adelson’s helping Romney NOW by supporting Newt’s PAC??

Hmmmmmmmmm?
