Newt defiantly hangs tough in GOP race
The Washington Times ^ | April 22, 2012 | Jennifer Harper

With 21 campaign events scheduled this week, persistent Republican hopeful Newt Gingrich does not appear willing to appease those who want him out of the presidential race. With wife Callista, Mr. Gingrich embarks on intensely local appearances in Delaware and North Carolina: he’ll frequent regional GOP luncheons, visit a library, an azalea festival and elementary schools. He’ll throw out the first pitch at a Gardner-Webb University baseball game and brave an appearance at the North Carolina Zoo — which has puffins but no penguins. The candidate was nipped by the latter last week during a zoo appearance; but that is history.

Mr. Gingrich continues to bill himself as “the last conservative standing,” and he remains standing as Tuesday’s five primaries loom, continually reminding the press of his local endorsements from the likes of “former first lady of the National Rifle Association” Ingrid Sigler, and in Delaware, chairman Bill Sahm of the Northern New Castle County GOP; plus Hans Reigle, chairman of the Kent County Republican Party.

“I previously endorsed Gov. [Mitt] Romney, but since then, Newt is the only candidate who has shown a willingness to meet and talk with Delaware voters for more than an hour,” Mr. Reigle observes.

Newt will be speaking at my kids’ school on Wednesday! What a great opportunity for them to hear a conservative message from a historic man. I wish that they would let me attend!

At this point in time... Newt is the ONLY choice for thinking Americans... not people that just live here like parasites... sucking the life blood from their host.

Good morning.

Haven’t seen this addressed, so here goes.

Remember when they all accused Newt of helping Romney against Santorum, by remaining a candidate?

What would they say about that NOW.

Crickets chirping??

Thinking that the next time they come around to bash Newt for still being in, for a “hopeless cause”, hold them to account for claiming, for months, that he was only there to help Romney against Santorum.

But Santorum suspended his campaign.

Also in MO, Romney is cleaning up in delegates although it was Santorum that won the vote. Which Newt had nothing to do with, because he didn’t even compete there. This shows why Newt skipped MO...the Establishment fix was in there, and he knew it.

Which shows Santorum’s problems as well as the worst primary system on record.

Talk about a failed accusation against Newt for persisting...now they are reduced to simply - it’s a “hopeless cause”.

.................. "I’ll admit it. Even I – the steel spined squab of steadfastness was wondering if the meeting with Romney and the softening of Newt’s tone meant he was aiming for a cabinet job. After hearing the private discussions of those that attended, I’m fully persuaded the Georgia General is being absolutely as crafty as George in the 1776 Delaware jungle was. It’s a guerilla war by conservatives against RINO’s. Real conservatives who actually BELIEVE we shouldn’t give up on our principles (again) and despite the odds aren’t quitting.

Real conservatives who don’t just pay lip service to the idea of pledging our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor to ensure a BETTER hope than the change the RINO congress presented, then caved on. (Remember the $100 Billion in Boehner budget cuts after the 2010 Tea Party election?).

Sorry. Two years after the height of the Tea Party influence, the RINO’s and complicit (and lazy) conservative media have come close to locking it up to compromise captivity if not outright killing it.

If we don’t coalesce around Newt Gingrich and stop Romney, Karl Rove will become the head of the GOP. Mitch McConnell will be the new Harry Reid. And the minute the media and libs scream about any conservative legislation, Mitt and his RINO mutts will compromise just like Bob Dole tried to do to Reagan.

Only this time there won’t be any Newt Gingrich’s to stop them.

And RomneyCare will not be totally repealed after screams of insensitivity by centrists.

DOMA will be too “divisive” to address.

And no one will do anything but keep trying to patch short term solutions to entitlements while the number of Americans receiving Federal handouts slips over the 50% mark.".....................

One of the things that impressed me most this weekend is that most of the people who endorsed Newt, including Gov. Perry, are in it to the end. Mostly, from what I have read, because they gave their word.

Yes, and they believe in him and his cause.

Giving their word...that is “old school”, or from the frontier ethic.

Governor Perry asked Congressman Louis Gohmert of TX to support him when he ran, but the good man told his friend Rick Perry that he would if he could, but he couldn’t, because he had already given his word to Speaker Gingrich that he would support HIM.

Which Perry completely understood, because he, too, holds that ethic.

Apparently Herman Cain feels differently...

I hope they are VOCAL about their support, right now when it counts the most.

I’m going to post here what I posted at

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2875441/posts , because it is something EVERYBODY can do. We need people to see what’s really at stake here. Before I post the body of that I’ll post my encouragement to everybody from NEW ENGLAND:

I refuse to believe that the good people of the Northeast are too “establishment Rino” to understand what is at stake here, or to stand for the very things that make America what we are.

Which state is it with the motto “Live Free or Die”? That’s the spirit we need right now, and New England can lead the way.

New England, you were the bed of the American Revolution. From the battles you fought come the liberties of this land. The country needs you now. Please rise to the great heritage you come from. You can do this!

>>>>>>>>>>>>

Now here’s the body of what I posted:

I have to work today and tomorrow so I can’t man any of Newt’s phone banks, but if anybody can use this letter to forward in e-mails to your lists before tomorrow’s primaries, please do so:

Mitt Romney supports government-coerced abortion. He personally has made the decision to force people to provide abortions even though they believe it to be murder.

Yes, he vetoed Romneycare because it mandated abortion insurance coverage, but in Dec 2005 after his veto was overridden and the Boston Globe printed an article noting that Catholic hospitals would be exempt from providing abortions to rape victims, Romney ordered the Dept of Public Health to force Catholic hospitals to provide abortions. He said his legal counsel had given him a “sounder view” of what Romneycare meant – that this law alone, of all the abortion laws passed in the 30 years since the 1975 conscience law had exempted religious institutions from having to perform abortions against their religious beliefs, nullified the conscience law even though a nullification clause had specifically been rejected by the MA legislature. Romney went further and said he personally believed it was the “right thing” for Catholic hospitals to commit what they believe to be murder.

Since that time, the regulations now say that the abortifacient morning-after pill must be offered by Catholic hospitals regardless of whether rape is even claimed. In other words, any woman can go to the emergency room of any Catholic hospital in MA and force the staff there to give her an abortion pill, no questions allowed to be asked.

This isn’t about rape and it isn’t about abortion. There are plenty of secular hospitals that will provide the morning-after pill. This is about forcing every Catholic in this country who puts a dollar bill in the collection plate to commune at the altar of government-established religion that includes abortion. Religious liberty exists no more.

Welcome to China right here in America.

Romney defends Romneycare’s coerced abortions by pointing out that states are not bound by the US Constitution. First Amendment guarantees of religious liberty don’t apply to states. States are free to establish religion and violate religious liberty, as Romney has done in MA.

The chief way that Islamists plan to establish sharia in free countries is by establishing precedents at the more local levels and then using that precedent to force the whole country into sharia – Islam forced onto everyone. Romney’s claims would allow states to establish sharia.

Vote for Newt Gingrich in the Republican Presidential primary.

Twenty one events! Go, Newt! He has done a good job of conserving his limited resources and concentrating on states where he believes he has a chance of picking off some delegates that would otherwise accrue to Romney. While the media alternately ignores him or mocks him, Newt goes quietly and doggedly about his quest of denying Romney 1,144 delegates.

Newt has focused almost all his campaign stops in Delaware (primary April 24th), and to a lesser extent North Carolina (primary May 8th). It will be interesting to see how he does in those two states.

I'll stand with Newt until Newt stands down!

Well I think I can take a stab at filling in the crickets. I supported Santorum and I do know a lot of his supporters who think, as I do, Newt getting out would have helped Santorum. If the conservative/anti-Romney vote hadn't been split maybe Santorum wouldn't have gotten out, which may have sealed Romney's fate as the nominee. That said I know the Newt folks say the same thing about Santorum. That's all water under the bridge now though and I don't think we can gain anything by bashing either.
From where we stand now Newt is the only one with a chance, albeit a slim one at stopping Romney. Now is not the time to give up folks, don't be a sunshine patriot.
