Planning has begun for the 7th Annual TexasCowboy Memorial Shoot.
This years shoot will be held at Schwenkes Rifle & Pistol Range, 4407 FM 1069, Aransas Pass, TX. Which is a few miles north of Corpus Christi.
The date of the shoot is October 6th, which is Columbus Day weekend.
I have not talked to the range owner yet to see if we can cook on the range. If not, we will head over here for food & more fun. What food & who cooks has yet to be determined. Im thinking, since we will be on the coast, we should have seafood.
Several of us will be staying in the cottages at that resort. The cottages sleep 2 ~ 4 people; they are a one bedroom with a fold out queen couch. I am going to reserve four cottages so that we will have a common area where we can eat & socialize. Let me know if you want to stay in one of them.
It should be noted that a festival will be held the same weekend as the shoot.
Thats it for now . . .
Having just driven it this afternoon, it's 139 miles. :) Depending on where you leave from and end up. That's from the start of I-37 to wherever the roadside signs say is San Antonio. The downtown SA exits are exits 141, so a couple of miles farther.

So that makes it about 2 hours, a few minutes more or less. Not too shabby! :)

You can have the shrimp. I'll take the girl.
That’s a fake shrimp!
No it ain’t.
That has changed, I might be able to afford a cottage after all. Might even get my wife to come, she really likes the area, and I think she might like to see who all these people I'm always talking about are. She might even take a few shots, she's been known to do that. I went down there with her earlier this week for a conference on Mustang Island.
Now scheduling will be an issue.
I have a new job, but I'll have no vacation. Plus that's going to be getting really close to a "Test shot" deadline at the new job. They spoke of overtime being needed... at time and half. :)
Hopefully, something can be arranged to get me to Aransas Pass on Friday night.
My Mom has a picture of me wearing similar duds, along with similar holstered "six shooter" standing in front of a similar vintage car. A '53 Pontiac to be exact, green 4-door V-8. Like this, only green.

We had that car from the time it was new until we bought a '62 Ford Galaxy Wagon, with bigger V-8.
Your ‘53 would have had a straight eight. Pontiac didn’t introduce their V8 until 1955 along with Chevy.

Bump

So, Mom. What if a Freeper can’t commit that far out and just shows up at the range on the designated day?
They will be shot.
Or welcome to join us.
I can never remember the rules.
Okey dokey, I might just take the risk of getting shot. I am curious if I should bring the .45 LC hogleg and lever gun combo, or the reach out and touch someone (at 300 yards) bolt gun? Maybe the .38 snubbie or a wondernine would be fun?
I’m tinking maybee iy need get heavy dooty shocks for da car for ta carry ammo.
Don't burden yerself with such weighty decisions...just bring everything!
MyLife...Don't EVEN think about doin' that!!! LOL
yall are a riot.
I will always remember Leroy.
What a great Texas gentleman!
Y’all have fun!
You can never have enough Robert Earl Keen. Or .45 ACP.
I just spoke to Mr. Schwenke about having the shoot on his range. He said that would not be a problem, but he upped his price for non-members to $20.00. He also said (this time) he could not close the range to members ~ I told him that would not be a problem, as we are a friendly bunch that doesn’t mind sharing.
He did not remember us being there before, which he said, is a good thing ~ it means we weren’t “rascals”.
The last time Allegra & I were in the area we found a really, really great seafood place, those that arrive Friday night can meet for dinner there. Still looking (not very hard though) for a breakfast meeting place.
The after the shoot meal and social hour(s) will be held at the cottages where most of us are staying.
What do you folks say about the after the shoot meal being fish, that was caught the night before from the pier of the cottages? (Between all of us, I’m sure we could catch & filet a few fishes).
I think that is it for now.
Do you mind if I ping a couple FReepers in my area?
Ouch. That's at least $100 for my bunch to shoot. $80 if my wife opts out (which I'd hate for her to do).
I guess we'll have to stuff more nickels in the cookie jar. Thanks!

Homemade canned goodies sound yummy!
Feel free to ping anyone you want to this thread. If they want on the TCMS ping list, I’ll be happy to add them.
I hope the Mrs. makes it to the range, there is always so many guns to shoot.
And that would be...?
We'll be bringing Nacho fixin's and Margarita supplies for the party after. Also have a big bag of disposable serving utensils (tongs, spoons, and such)
BTW, Whatever happened to that Gator at DCS?
The name of the place is Captain Benny’s, in Rockport. Their food was just plain awesome!
I think the gator left for wetter ground when the lake dried up.
Fresh local seafood, oysters (in season) and homemade desserts. BYOB and enjoy our comfortable patio area. Our restaurant is available for private parties. Hours: Open Wed, Thurs, Fri, & Sat - 5pm to 9pm.
Think they'll mind if I spin up some Margaritas? ;^)
Thanks for the update. Soooooo looking forward to this trip!
I’ll bet the HORSE remembers us. :)
MOM
What is the name of the cottages and the address?
charlie
Pinging neighbors in Bandera!
That is the place!
Not sure how margarita’s work at a BYOB place. We can bring a batch or three, if they say we can’t then we will have to drink them when we get back to the cottages. ;-)
Hi Charlie! The cottages place is called Pelican Bay Resort, located at 4206 N. Hwy 35, Fulton, TX.
Here is there website http://www.pelicanbayresort.com/.
Dayum. Is that yours? It's beautiful.
Yeah, I bought it a couple of weeks ago. I hurt my right hand and haven’t had a chance to shoot it yet.
It is calibered in .45 Long Colt and should be a hoot to shoot!
You lucky dog, you.
I hurt my right hand and havent had a chance to shoot it yet.
Well, now I feel sorry for you, 'cause you've got to be itching like crazy to go shoot it. Get that hand healed and go have some fun!
Beautiful!
Sweet Henry!
Thanks!
Sadly my hand is still too damaged to shoot it. I may have really mangled the knuckle. That'll teach me to break up a stupid dog fight.
Ouch! I know what you mean I have gotten involved in several dog fights. I lost.
Sorry to hear about your hand.
I can always test that rifle for you.
Just ask Gunner!
Prolly not necessary since it's not a Springfield...
BTW, I’ve advanced our resos at the cottages to include thursday night.
Friday is playday and we’ll prolly hit the Rockport festival.
Roger that, BB! I’m READY to roll!! :)
I’ve got a ticket to flyyyyyyyyyy!
Fine by me.
We’ll be tired that night.
Ouch!
If Eaker comes down with me Thursday night I'll change our reservation. If he comes down Friday, I will spend Thursday night with my mother.
Good plan! We have all day Friday to have some fun...and then more fun at the shoot on Saturday! :)
Thank you, sir! I hope we’re there by then. I keep adding days that Hubby has to take off work, and he’s starting to balk, LOL! Just a little.
Windy! You’re coming? Oh, I can’t wait to meet you and your family. This is soooo cool!
Yeah, we should be able to make it this year. It'll be great to meet you!
