BP Spill Sickens People; What Thoreau Tells About Global Warming
By Dino Grandoni | The Atlantic Wire – Thu, Apr 19, 2012

**SNIP**

USA Today on the EPA's failure with cleaning up smelting sites Oil spills certainly aren't the only way to create a health crisis. USA Today offers an investigation into the government turning a blind eye toward old smelting sites, which can (and do) give folks living nearby lead poisoning. Until the 1970s and 1980s, factories processing lead spewed out plumes of smokes laden with the toxic metal that accumulated in nearby soils. The problem today, according to the investigation, is that the Environmental Protection Agency has failed to identify old smelting plants and failed in cleaning up the ones it knew of. "People who live nearby — sometimes directly on top of — old smelters were not warned, left unaware in many cases of the factories' existence and the dangers that remain. Instead, they bought and sold homes and let their children play in contaminated yards."

Had to put this in the editorial category. Too much BS to sift through. It's pretty amazing that any human is walking around right now.

Dino needs to take a chill pill.

What a bunch of enviro-propaganda.

I live 2 blocks from the beach in Miss.

It will be a shock and surprise to the thousands of people swimming the last couple of weeks that the water is dirty.

I’ve done it ( a siphon start gone bad - it gives one gas - heh, heh, heh) and still survive to this day. Different from living on a toxic waste dump for years.

And what effect does living in heavily congested cities when billions, if not trillions of gallons of leaded gasoline spewed airborne lead throughout the years? Why isn't millions dying from this type of pollution?

I don’t think that Conservatives have a problem with necessary laws to protect the environment. We don’t make it a religion and use common sense. We, by nature, are Conservative and that also means with the environment. Republicans started the first National Parks. It is interesting that when Conservative groups gather they leave everything clean and these “earthers” leave everything a filthy mess. At the bottom of things one would most likely find the true offenders are “liberals”.
