PERSEVERANCE

The idea of perseverance is an important component in athletics, the military, studies, and even in religion. Perseverance is the master key, the secret of success when you are in the middle of the struggle. It is that extra, the second air, the capacity to overcome the discouragement.

Our society is making a lot of progress. We have technology and facilities that no one in history ever had before. The new generations can grow up today more healthy, and live longer. But we do have an Achilles' heel: the absence of the spirit of perseverance. A young man enthusiastically joined the military yesterday; he wants to resign today. A student goes to college with a lot of promises to herself; three months down the road, she withdraws from those studies. A couple got married today; a year later they file for divorce.

The scriptures cover the importance of perseverance. It was Jesus who said, "Because of the increase of our wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved" (Matthew 24:12-13). We receive hope and courage through these words. It may be hard, but to love when others hate, make peace and justice when others cause fights and unhappiness, build when others destroy, is "standing firm."

In every task, where we practice consistency and perseverance, we will see the good fruit of our sacrifice. And at the end of the final chapter of the book of our life, we will fully understand what Jesus meant through his words, "But he who stands firm to the end will be saved.

Undiscovered Country

April 22, 2012

I studied the map as my husband and I drove up the east coast of Virginia. We were looking for any road that would take us to the seashore. Finally, I found one and we turned toward the sun.

In only a few minutes, we were laughing in delight when—just before the seashore—we happened upon a national wildlife refuge. All around us were dunes and marsh and beach grasses and an abundance of gulls, egrets, and blue herons. It was active and loud and wonderful! We had arrived at Chincoteague and Assateague Islands—famous for the annual pony swim from one island to the other. Others had realized its value and beauty long before, but to us it was undiscovered country.

The Scriptures are like “undiscovered country” to many. They have never discovered the valuable treasures found in the eternal words of the Bible. The Bible is alive and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword, exposing our innermost thoughts and desires (Heb. 4:12). It is like a lamp to illuminate our path (Ps. 119:105), and it has been given to equip us for God’s purposes (2 Tim. 3:16-17).

Open the Bible and read it so you can find these treasures. It’s time . . . to discover!

Exhaustless store of treasured gems
Within this Book I hold;
And as I read, it comes alive,
New treasures to unfold. —Mortenson
Rich treasures of God’s truth
are waiting to be discovered by you.

Read: 2 Timothy 3:14-17

The Word of God is living and powerful. —Hebrews 4:12

1 Chronicles 27-29

Boy, you crammed a lot of stuff into your day!

I took my Dad to the hospital to get a finger stick. We’ve been going every Saturday hoping that his blood work, for Warfarin, will get up to where it is supposed to be....between 2 and 3. 2 weeks ago = 1.5, last week = 1.8, and today = 2.0. Meds adjusted and we don’t go back for 2 weeks this time.

Coming home from the hospital passed a car wash...I think every organization in town has them in the spring. Came home and took my ride back for a wash. A few missed spots, but immaterial to me....they got the first 15 layers of winter off. You can tell it’s blue now. LOL! Then on to get gas...$72+....$4.279 a gallon. *sigh*

Ouch! I put 16 Gallons in my Van last night at $3.81/Gal and spent about $68.00. Gas prices here are running anywhere from $3.75 to $4.15 for regular.

I hope your Dad is doing well.

He Who blessed our forefathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob - may He bless the fighters of the Israel Defense Force, who stand guard over our land and the cities of our G-d from the border of the Lebanon to the desert of Egypt, and from the Great Sea unto the approach of the Aravah, on the land, in the air, and on the sea.

May HASHEM cause the enemies who rise up against us to be struck down before them. May the Holy One, Blessed is He, preserve and rescue our fighting men from every trouble and distress and from every plague and illness, and may He send blessing and success in their every endeavor.

May He lead our enemies under their sway and may He grant them salvation and crown them with victory. And may there be fulfilled for them the verse: For it is Hashem, your G-d, Who goes with you to battle your enemies for you to save you.

G-d bless and keep your children safe, Alouette.

"Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope: And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us." -from THE BIBLE: Romans 5:1-5
