Dover, DE - Newt 2012 announced today that Hans Reigle, Chairman of the Kent County Republican Party, is switching his support from Mitt Romney to Newt Gingrich. Reigle has also served as the Mayor of Wyoming, Delaware and over 20 years in the United States Air Force.

“I previously endorsed Governor Romney, but since then Newt is the only candidate who has shown a willingness to meet and talk with Delaware voters for more than hour,” said Hans Reigle. ”Over the past few weeks I’ve listened to Newt discussing his vision for achieving $2.50 gasoline, balancing the budget, and shrinking the size of government and it is exactly the kind of positive agenda we need for Delaware and America. I’m proud to switch my support to Newt Gingrich and cast my vote for him next Tuesday.”

I really wonder if an endorsement by Chairman of the Kent County Republican Party, or almost anyone else matters. I suspect 99% of endorsements are meaningless. I would not base my vote on who George H.W. Bush, a Senator, etc. endorses. I don’t think too many people do.

Great news, hopefully not too late.

Let’s not forget that while Delaware as a whole is a leftist state, the rank-and-file GOPers are pretty conservative. Remember, this is the set of state party voters who dumped Mike Castle for Christine O’Donnell, so they’re obviously both independent-minded and conservative. Delaware isn’t necessarily a lock for Romney.

Speaking of Delaware, let’s also remember than when Christine O’Donnell - the people’s choice - won the Senate nomination, the GOP-E slammed her, refused to support her even though she was their nominee, and even gave aid and comfort to her Democrat opponent. REMEMBER THAT FOR THE NEXT TIME SOME GOP-ER TELLS YOU THAT YOU HAVE TO RALLY AROUND THE NOMINEE, LIKE HIM OR NOT.

Endorsements are important because they are trailing indicators, not leading indicators. Politico types are by nature followers, rather than leaders. They go where they think the wind is already blowing. Look at how many endorsements Romney got AFTER he became the "presumptive nominee." Before that, he mostly had to buy them.

If I were a gambling man, I'd bet a good sum of money that the reason the Chairman switched to Gingrich is because he's been getting feedback at various levels within the state party that Gingrich is the preferred choice.

New Castle County is Biden country. Southern Delaware is like a separate state from Northern Delaware.

Side note, I went bull riding in Wyoming, Delaware.

I lived this in 2010, and it is dead on accurate.

Every major GOP-E official in DE is GONE--thrown out over what happened with Christine.

Newt has been here several times, talking with groups of maybe 100 to 350 people. But DE is a small state, and people know a lot of other people. The Republican party is trending more conservative, after a 20 year liberal influence.

Politicans, even our own idiot Joe Biden overlook us regularly--remember he was from Scranton in 2008!--but Newt has not!

I pray DE will be the "First State" again, to get Newt to Tampa!

Inside baseball here: Han, if your reading this, good move with the Newt endorsement. Now, back the real conservative in the 32nd, Mike Tedesco. If the DE GOP ever wants to actually win an election again, do the right thing. It starts with people like you.

It matters to the party workers in Kent County. I would bet it matters to them more than the endorsement of Senator McCain, Governor McDonnell, or any of the Bushes.

Grassroots action is the only way conservatives are ever going to get anywhere in the party, and it only get a little bit more grassroots than a County Chair.

That and the GOP treatment of other tea party endorsed candidates like Joe Miller and Sharon Angle. The GOP drove me out of the party with their antics during the 2010 elections and the back stabbing of those elected tea party candidates who tried to rein in the spending last summer. The GOP-E is every bit as evil as the Obama led Democrats.

Yep, almost. But not that much has changed. This guy Han has a decision to make about the 32nd representative district. Right now, it's looking like the same old shit. Mike Castle was selected by The DE GOP to be national convention delegate. Also, Patricia Rakestraw is still the national committee woman for the DE GOP & she's up for re-election. She was one of the major players, along with Tom Ross, in the GOP Christine O'Donnell hatchet job. Keep your eyes open. If they back the conservative in DE 32 & voters oust Rakestraw, I'll be convinced things are changing.
