The 411 about the Trayvon Martin timeline
Chicago Tribune ^ | 20 apr 2012 | Eric Zorn

Posted on 04/20/2012 4:36:38 AM PDT by rellimpank

A key moment in George Zimmerman's cellphone call to the Police Department in Sanford, Fla., on the fateful night of Feb. 26 occurs at 7:11:41 p.m., a little more than two minutes into a call that lasts about four minutes.

"He's running," says Zimmerman, referring to the "real suspicious guy" he'd called in to report. Almost immediately you hear on the recording a car door opening and what sounds like a warning beep indicating the key is still in the ignition. Shortly thereafter comes the unmistakable sound of wind blowing into a phone mouthpiece.

Zimmerman is in pursuit! And we all know the outcome: Zimmerman, 28, ultimately shot and killed the unarmed Martin, 17, touching off a national controversy about race, justice and firearms.

But what's often overlooked in all the heated conversations about this tragedy is the actual timeline based on police documents, a timeline that culminated at 7:16:56 p.m., more than five minutes later, with the sound of a single gunshot in the background of a 911 emergency call.

It will also be interesting to find out the precise time that Martin departed the 7-11 store versus the first sighting by Zimmerman.

I have a feeling this will show Martin was loitering in the area, in the rain, when he could have proceeded straight home.

All Tray had to do was keep on walking home. He preferred to play a tag game with Zimmerman and lost.

It was weeks before this hit the major news. It's all about "his son" and votes. Disgusting !!

...on that fateful night...

Yes, the night that George Zimmerman, a respected community leader, volunteer, and DEMOCRAT, became the cause celebre for an entire industry of race hustlers. The very same night that turned him from a peaceful citizen into public enemy number one.

This man's life as he knew it is over. He'll never be able to walk the streets without watching his back. He'll never be able to have a drink at a bar with buddies or enjoy his family's company in the general public. His face is plastered across TV sets from Maui to Miami. He'll never get a fair shake ever again.

"Zimmerman is in pursuit!"?

More yellow journalism.

Yeah, I almost stopped reading there figuring he was another emotionally driven factually barren liberal. He did finish it up fairly though.

I find it interesting, in several aspects, that GZ only fired one shot.

If I were in a similar situation, I would fire at least twice.

BTW, I am an observant pacifist and do not even harm insects, I pick them up by the wings and escort them outside.

I remember hearing (I don't know if it was from a real source or rumor) that GZ's gun jammed when chambering the next round. Which points to a struggle over the gun.

“Even if he did pick that fight, of course, that didn’t necessarily give Zimmerman the right to shoot him.”

No...George should have allowed Martin to beat him to death.

Then none of these loudmouths would care about who killed who, or why.

Does Zimmerman break off the chase?

By 7:12:15 p.m., the wind noises have stopped and his breathing has returned to normal as he discusses with the police dispatcher where responding officers should meet him. At 7:13:12 p.m. he interjects, “I don’t know where this kid is.”

Where is Martin? At just a normal walking pace of three miles per hour, he would be home by the time Zimmerman hangs up with police at 7:13:41 p.m.

.................

I can’t believe this is in the Chicago Tribune.

Here’s the problem with calling Zimmerman’s actions “pursuit” and “did he break off the chase?”

What was Z’s objective...why did he try to follow M...to HARM him? Absolutely not, but that’s the sinister spin that’s implied by using such words.

The context makes crystal clear he was trying to help the police pinpoint M’s whereabouts, as he considered M a possible break-in waiting to happen, by reason of his observed actions. The fact that he was in contact with the police non-emergency number this whole time shows he wasn’t planning to murder M.

This case is a defense lawyer’s dream.

Because there never should have been a case filed, it’s so bad.

A large part of the media is dreaming about all the reports they could write about race riots, if they can just get some started.

This whole thing is going to shake out sooner or later. I would bet that Zimmerman followed Martin until the 911 dispatcher told him he didn’t need to do that. Then Martin Jumped Zimmerman at or near his vehicle where the struggle ensued. I will bet the Martin’s GF knows a whole lot more then she is telling. She may have even prodded martin to go back and confront Zimmerman (just my speculation) It will be interesting how intensely the defense will press Martins GF. At any rate, I would bet that Zimmerman will get off and the race hustlers will have there excuse to start rioting. The question is, will it happen before or after the election?
