RICHARDSON (CBSDFW) Former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich says hes not leaving the Presidential race anytime soon. Im the tortoise in this race, Gingrich says. Ill just keep coming forward and Im still here.
Before 75 supporters in a packed Richardson restaurant along Central Expressway Monday afternoon, Gingrich sounded upbeat.
He told the town hall meeting, I certainly felt a lot more encouraged by donors than discouraged by the elite media.
But hes facing an uphill climb.
Jack Fink: Mitt Romney is on his way to the nomination, mathematically you cant win, so whats your rationale for staying in the race?
Newt Gingrich: Its interesting, in Colorado this weekend, the delegates chosen were 13 for Romney and 23 not for Romney, and I dont think any of the national news media picked it up yet. The inevitability train didnt seem to get across the Rockies. Im campaigning here, Im campaigning in North Carolina, in Delaware, in Pennsylvania, tomorrow, Ill be in New York for two days this week. I think we still have the right to have the last conservative standing, and make the case for conservatism...........................

This is almost pathetic at this point.
I’m not settling for Romney, his progressive income tax appeasement doesn’t work for me. Go Newt!

Move toward an optional flat tax of 15% that would allow Americans the freedom to choose to file their taxes on a postcard, saving hundreds of billions in unnecessary costs each year.
Energy independence unshackles us here at home and abroad.
And his Day One Plan includes getting that 61 Majority(including McCain) in the Senate, and day 1 starts Jan 3, 2013, plus, he’s asking and posting the good ideas suggested;
http://www.newt.org/contract/day-one-plan/
1. The Drill Here Drill Now Pay Less Executive Order.
Previously Released
1. Eliminate the thirty-nine White House Czar positions created during the current administration.
2. Mexico City Policy of Respect for Life.
3. Restore conscience clause protections for Healthcare Workers.
4. Respect Each Sovereign Nations Choice of its Capital.
5. End the Attorney Generals Assault on the States.
6. The Keystone Pipeline
Newt will not win one more state, but keep sending him money if you want. I hear Calista needs some diamond earrings to go with her tiffany necklace.
And I wouldn’t settle for the Supreme Court being the only option to remove the (non)Affordable Health Care Act;
http://www.newt.org/solutions/healthcare/
This comprehensive approachcost, quality, competition, and coveragecan solve the problem of the uninsured with no individual mandate and no employer mandate. Everyone would be able to obtain essential health care and coverage when needed. For those who are too poor to buy health insurance, states will have more flexibility to provide them with the assistance they need to buy it. For those who nevertheless choose not to purchase coverage and then become too sick to do so, high risk pools will provide access to coverage. Once you have health insurance, you are assured you can keep it. By contrast, even Obamacare for all its trillions in taxes, spending, new entitlements, and new bureaucracy still does not achieve universal coverage.
AND though there are going to be some winner take all primaries, the following contests are also on the schedule:
RI (16) proportional
NY (92) proportional
WVA (28) proportional -- elect delegates (who list their presidential pick on ballot)
NC (52) proportional
OR (25) proportional
AK (33) proportional
KY (42) proportional
TX (155) proportional
CA (169) proportional (by district)
NM (20) proportional
SD (25) proportional
There there are the Contested delegates: . delegates have to be "uncontested" in order to count. The frontrunner's rivals argue some of the states that awarded Romney all of their delegates violated Republican National Committee rules when they moved their contests ahead of April 1 and therefore should distribute delegates proportionally. This dispute, if it continues, would not be ruled on until the August convention in Tampa.
"All the media counts right now give him all of Florida, which is against the rules, all of Arizona, which is against the rules, and all of Idaho," Gingrich said Monday. "Those are all three proportional states and they should only be counting his share. So he has to win 1,144 uncontested delegates."
FL: 50 delegates
ID: 32 delegates
AZ: 29 delegates
As the American People better understand their choices, Newt may win every state.
Yeah, I wonder why no one ever thought of that. Newt can win the primary, by losing almost every state. Brilliant strategy.
I would rather have Newt than Mitt, who I will absolutely not vote for, but all Newt is doing at this point is fund raising.
Santorum has been out over a week and the facts that Ron Paul hasn't been even whispered in quiet company, and more importantly, Newt is being given an eerie treatment of, "Gee, it's a shame all you guys are out now that Rick has dropped .. ", convinces me, and should convince anyone even remotely aware there is a presidential election this year, that Newt Gingrich is the only truly qualified man for the job.
If Newt picks Sarah and has Ricks support, we will save America.
Yeah, right. Newt’s been explaining those choices to them for a long time now, and he’s won two states, his home state and a suburb. He has Zero chance.
I’m not sure you’re paying attention, squid.
A Mitt butt boy speaks.
He doesn’t have to win. He just has to hold on past the first delegate vote at conference.
Maybe you’re right, maybe I missed the news story that reported the massive Newt Surge that will carry him to victory in every single remaining state. And then there’s that news story about all of the delegates being so persuaded by Newt’s phone calls that they switch their votes at the convention.
Newt has one 2, count ‘em 2 states. and we’re in the home stretch. Newt’s done and he knows it, but don’t let that stop you in believing in a Newt nomination. Maybe the keynote speaker will be the Easter Bunny, or the Tooth fairy.
Newt at least is a choice. Mittens is a Caucasian Obama mini-me...
FYI:The Mitt butt boys are trashing Newt early today.
I confess I pass over a lot of what some people have to say because of how they begin a sentence or thought pattern, thus ... I don't understand your utter distain for a man that certainly communicates a lot better than Romney.
Don’t you want to hang out on MSNBC-they love trashing conservatives. Geez, give it a break; we get it- 4 comments by you. This site is for Newt and all conservatives.
God works in mysterious ways.
They're ALL fundraising. Why is it a sin that Newt is too?
Did you hear his NRA speech? The one where HE got the standing O's but it was Mitt Fox News showed clips of....
National Rifle Association Meeting - Part 1 Newt Gingrich Speech 1:00:18 (follows Mitt Romney Rick Santorum follows Newt)

Was Mitt throwing tea "overboard" in 1994?
I'm with you!! I don't think Newt is going to win, but here's what might happen...
Romney will not pick up the required minimum number of delegates and we are going to go to that convention in Tampa and bring your butt kissing rino house down!
The RNC/GOP will be full of contention, controversy and utter strife. I'm hoping the likes of which the party has never seen! As it stands right now I think we are in a political WAR in the republican party, one which HAS to be fought before we can demolish the liberal cause! Rinos/moderates are going to be shocked when conservatives tell you to go take a long walk on a short pier and decide to finally bring the hammer down!
Conservatives HAVE to rid this party of these Liberal Policy Appeasers...Newt can lead us!
um...
I think you seem to have forgotten about :
north carolina, west virginia, arkansas, kentucky, and my state Texas!
this isn’t over! Romney can still be stopped from getting the nomination
The inevitability train didnt seem to get across the Rockies>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Ronald Reagan faced a similar situation.
I wonder whether Newt can pull it off.
GO NEWT!
The media wants to pick the GOP nominee.
Was Richardson Newt’s only stop in Texas on this tour or were there other rallies? I haven’t seen any info either way.

Steve Pfost/Staff Photographer Mickey Margetis, 81, of Dallas hugged Gingrich during the town hall meeting Monday in Richardson.

"Having vowed to press on with his presidential campaign despite long odds, Newt Gingrich campaigned in North Texas on Monday, urging supporters to vote for him in the state's May 29 primary, The Dallas Morning News reports. U.S. Reps. Joe Barton of Ennis and Michael Burgess of Flower Mound, who have said they'll continue to support Gingrich as long as he remains in the race, joined the former U.S. House speaker at a restaurant in Richardson, where he said when asked whether he should withdraw from the race that "having a voice for conservatism is healthy for the Republican Party and helpful to America." Ya! send more money to Romney, so he can murder more babies and allow his log cabin buddies perp little kids. What a joke!
The inevitability train didnt seem to get across the Rockies>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Ha! I love it.
This is classic Newt. Never give up, old boy!!
Was watching Romeny yesterday - he can’t stand up to the media. He is absolutely unconvincing when he talks. I walk away in an “anti-climatic” state.
Of the 1100-some remaining delegates, Romney need under 500 and Gingrich needs OVER 1000.
Gingrich would have to win about 95% of ALL REMAINING delegates to get the nomination.
The remaining primaries include CA, NY, CT, RI, NJ. None of those seem to be ‘gringrich friendly’ battlegrounds.
==
Someone posted last week that the EV count estimate showed Gingrich getting just over 100, if he goes up against Obama. In other words, he would lose worse than McCain did in 2008.
This is almost pathetic at this point.
You’re talking about Romney being the nomination, right?
Possibly the next President?
I would agree with you if that is what you mean by “pathetic”.
Otherwise, Newt may not win the nom but can’t he stop Willard from taking it as well?
Isn’t that how it goes to a brokered converntion?
And the big hook comes out from the curtain and drags romney’s pathetic liberal ass off the stage never to be heard from again!
Go Palin!
Go Newt!
Go USA!
Thanks for spreading the word!
Remember your words when obama makes mince meat of romney. There is no going back. Conservatives will fight to the end. If you think that's pathetic, you don't belong here.
And Romney needs more money to pay for his illegal staff in his mansion with elevators and support his other homes.
Nothing is TOO much when our country/Constitution is at stake. We can’t rely on you - but when Newt wins, you will have no problem benefiting will you? Off the back of others. You must be a liberal like romney/obama.
I appreciate all your work you do to bring us this info and explaining it. Thanks.
Even if Newt can pull out a win or two with proportional awarding of Delegates, there simply isn’t any plausible way for Newt to get to the magic number. I don’t like it, but the biggest RINO in the field has won period. I’ll bet every single Romney ad from this point on will be focused on Obama and not even mention Newt.
It is both pathetic that Romney is the Nominee and pathetic that some think Newt is still in the race. Newt can not stop Willard at this point.
you are correct Newt has zero chance of winning the nomination before the convention, BUT he can keep Romney from winning it, and force the voting to a 2nd round at the convention.
What is really pathetic is how little knowledge of the convention system people like NavVet and TomGuy have. Or maybe they just are trying to demoralize conservatives and close the deal for Mitt before we even have a convention.
Okay, thanks for your permission.
