Herman Cain Flops on Gingrich Endorsement, Says, ‘Let’s Get On With This’
ABC News ^ | 4-16-12 | Dover

Posted on 04/16/2012 7:36:45 PM PDT by VinL

Less than two months ago, Herman Cain, who was out of the race for the Republican presidential nomination, stood on a stage in West Palm Beach, just three days before the Florida primary and told the crowd, “I hereby officially and enthusiastically endorse Newt Gingrich for the president of the Unites States.” Gingrich had just come off a sweeping win in South Carolina, had the fundraising dollars pouring in and a financial safety net in billionaire donor Sheldon Adelson.

But on Monday Cain walked back his endorsement of Gingrich saying, “With all due respect, let’s get on with this, OK?”

“I even endorsed Newt Gingrich at one point because I thought that he had a shot. Well, not now. He doesn’t have a shot,” Cain said to Washington radio station WMAL.

A former Cain staffer told ABC News that Cain’s call for Gingrich to bow out isn’t surprising.

“He likes to go with his gut. Mr. Cain walked up to line of joining the establishment without crossing it,” the former Cain staffer said.

Cain refused to comment to ABC News Monday over this morning’s comments about Gingrich, but Gingrich campaign spokesman R.C. Hammond said the party is trying is lock down the nomination.

“The angle right now is for the party to get to a nominee as fast as possible,” Hammond said. “It’s up to Herman Cain whether or not he’s put in his application with the establishment.”

Cain wasn’t the only Republican candidate to...endorse the “not-Romney” candidate. Rick Perry also endorsed Gingrich when he left the race.

A spokesman for Perry, Catherine Frazier, told ABC News that he will stay loyal to Gingrich but will support the eventual nominee.

“Gov. Perry puts a premium on loyalty and he’ll back Gingrich as long as he’s in the race,” Frazier said.

Feeney’s Book

Feeney, get your book out

Set down the name, the one Herman Cain.

Feeney, have you written the name I gave you?

Well, strike a line through it.

That's for him, Herman Cain.

Joining a host of others– Drudge, Coulter, Fox, Cons. Radio, DeMent, Ryan, Rubio and many other DC “conservatives”.

I'm in, til Newt's out.

Don’t like it but hard to disagree. “Let’s get on with it” makes sense to me.

So who was it we were trying to defeat?

Barack Obama?

Or Mitt Romney?

Think some people have lost sight of the end zone and are maybe even running the wrong way with the ball...

We should be supporting Newt until he’s out. I’m hoping he is still able to contribute, if he can’t win.

Voting for Newt in the PA primary. I absolutely refuse to vote romney. If romney ends up being the nominee, I will write in Sarah Palin in the general. That’s it. I’m done.
And don’t anyone dare say that my vote would be a vote for oscumma because two evils do not make a right...and in this case, there is no lesser evil.

I am all in to defeat Obama. I do not equate Obama and Romney. Romney isn’t Obama. That may not meet FR orthodoxy, but that is my observation.

Romney, like Rush has said, can (and must be) PUSHED to the right. Obama cannot be pushed to the right...he is an Alinsky disciple.

Why should Gingrich expect people to endorse him when he has stopped campaigning? This is the welfare candidacy. Everyone should work and pay except Gingrich.

Wow, no loyalty from Cain. Glad he’s not a friend of mine (or would he be a friend even though he said he was). Would not trust this man.

I (think) I heard Cain say something back when he was top dog. Something to the effect of...... we will have to help black people first because they are the worst off.......

Did anyone else hear him say this? He was not giving a speech, he was walking and talking to a reporter at the same time. I saw it on TV and it disturbed me. Anyone?

Romney isn’t Obama. That may not meet FR orthodoxy, but that is my observation.

Observation? Are you sure you've actually taken the time to observe Mitt Romney's record as Governor of Massachusetts? The man governed more to the left than many Democrats.

Here's just a sampling:

Mitt Romney’s Dismal Record

"As U.S. real output grew 13 percent between 2002 and 2006, Massachusetts trailed at 9 percent.

* Manufacturing employment fell 7 percent nationwide those years, but sank 14 percent under Romney, placing Massachusetts 48th among the states.

* Between fall 2003 and autumn 2006, U.S. job growth averaged 5.4 percent, nearly three times Massachusetts' anemic 1.9 percent pace.

* While 8 million Americans over age 16 found work between 2002 and 2006, the number of employed Massachusetts residents actually declined by 8,500 during those years.

"Massachusetts was the only state to have failed to post any gain in its pool of employed residents," professors Sum and McLaughlin concluded.

In an April 2003 meeting with the Massachusetts congressional delegation in Washington, Romney failed to endorse President Bush's $726 billion tax-cut proposal."

[Cato Institute annual Fiscal Policy Report Card - America's Governors, 2004.]

Romney's "accomplishments".

1. Implemented/created Gay Marriage in MA

2. Supported and forced Gay Adoption in MA

3. Supported Abortion wholeheartedly

4. Raised taxes/fees over 300% while being Governor of MA

5. Implemented a state-level Cap and Trade system.

6. Supported Man-Made Global Warming

7. Supported the Brady Bill

8. Implemented a state level “Assault” Weapons Ban after the Federal AWB was allowed to expire.

9. Supported TARP

10. Supported Amnesty for Illegal Aliens (Citizenship for those already here)

11. Supported McCain-Kennedy (Amnesty)

12. Implemented a socialized medicine in MA called RomneyCare complete with an Individual Mandate and $50 abortions.

13. Nominated 27 Democrats (out of 36 nominations) for judgeships in MA, many of them extreme left-wingers.
