Conference call with Rick Santorum

I (plus about 4000 others) just got off of a conference call with Rick Santorum. Perhaps a more detailed report will be forthcoming, but here are some quick notes that I took:

"I had a chance to talk to Newt. I haven't had a chance to talk with Governor Romney."

He spoke about working hard to make sure that the Republican Party had a "conservative platform" and a "conservative message" and that they "follow through with that conservative message after the election".

"I haven't supported any candidate at this point."

He said that they are working with states to "make sure our delegates are seated" so that their "conservative voice (will) be heard at the convention".

With regard to his message, "We're not backing away one bit."

His advice to his followers, "The best things that they can do is stay tuned." As far as carrying the conservative message forward, he said that "in the next week or two" they will develop plans as to "how to structure things going forward".

The tone of the conference call in general was one of thanks to his supporters, and a commitment to insuring that a conservative message is articulated by the Republican Party. There was no endorsement of Romney. Although nothing specific was said, there seemed to be a frequent mention of "conservative" with implied contrast to Romney. He did say that he thought that the November election was the most important in our country's history, that he was "all in", and that he hoped to work things so that those who are currently disheartened by developments would be willing to work hard in November.

That was about it. There was an emphasis on faith, thankfulness to his supporters, and trying to make sure that a conservative message is central to the Republican Party.

I’m a SOCON, so of course I like Rick. However, why would a SOCON want to coalesce with the Libertarian Ron Paul? Also, I find it hard to believe that Newt wasn’t interested in joining forces. What exactly does Rick mean by “coalesce?”

I don't recall him using the word "coalesce" in the call. I think that he said that he was unsuccessful in attempting to form a coalition of the other conservatives in the race. The implication that I drew from that was a coalition of Santorum, Gingrich, and Paul against Romney. One more thing: News reports are giving contradictory information about his contact or lack thereof with Gingrich. Some are saying that he spoke with Newt; others are saying that he hasn't had the chance to do so. I heard him say, "I had a chance to talk to Newt." Rick said, however, "I haven't had a chance to talk to Governor Romney." That would seem to include Newt in the "coalition of conservatives" but exclude Romney.

Actually no. We are all sinners in a broken world, so any choice will include evil. Choosing "the lesser of evils," in the real world, is also "Choosing the best option available."

You can spend all the time you like pawing through the political corpse of the Santorum campaign, but don't expect to find rational answers there.

Lord, what a post-please come back to realville.
The man is not worthy of any rewards after he could not complete the test/race in PA. He should endorse Newt Gingrich vs kissing Romney's ring for money. Rick ran up the debt/no need to sell his soul.

“Rather than endorse a conservative, he will say that Romney has pledged to govern as a conservative and will endorse Romney to get back at Newt.”

Not wise IF he wants to run for POTUS in 2016 when Obama finishes his second term. Endorsing Romney, especially the way Romney trashed him, would cause him to lose credibility.

IF he cannot endorse Newt, it would be wisest for him to not endorse at all.

Thanks for that inside report. I guess I was a bigger supporter of Santorum than anybody else since I sent him money (not much!)

I’m glad he is still focused and taking things seriously.

I know one thing for sure, Santorum isn’t doing anything out of ego or grandiosity, he is striving to help our country.

..We continue to send money, I haven't given up on him......I don't believe this is over.

Guenevere, I hate to say this, but we have to start thinking like the Left a little bit more. (We have to start thinking like them, not acting like them.)

To the Left it is NEVER over. They’ve been fighting every day, not for decades, but for centuries.

If you go back to the French Revolution you see the fight against religion and the family and everything that holds society together and give the INDIVIDUAL dignity is far older than we realize.

So, we’ve got to be prepared to keep battling them for a long hard slog. Maybe pretty much forever.
