Mitt Romney leads President Obama in the first Gallup national daily tracking poll.

Romney took 47 percent support from surveyed registered voters, while Obama took 45 in a poll conducted between April 11 and April 15. Romney's edge though is within the poll's three point margin of error.

Independents tipped the scale in favor of Romney, going for the former Massachusetts governor 45 percent to 39.

Registered, not likely voters. Add 3-4 points to Romney’s total.

Err, so how would it be any better if Obama were leading? It's either going to be Romney or Obama that wins, so are you going to actively cheer for Obama to lead the polls instead?

Seriously? No way Romney is worse than Obama. None. He isn’t my first choice, but I will easily vote for him in November. W. wasn’t the best we have had (prescription drug benefit, no child left behind, etc.) but he gave us Roberts and Alito...which just might save us from Obamacare.

Let’s get Romney in there, then hold his feet to the fire like we did with Bush when he nominated Harriet Myers...It’s our only chance at this point.

Bull$hit. This is just push-polling to try to seal the deal for Romney at the GOP convention.

IMHO, anyway you cut it, Obama losing is good...very good. He’s intent on willfully taking the country down and four more years will do potentially irreprable harm.

We can and will survive Romney...can probably even hold his feet to his campaign pledges. Besides, Newt may still pull off a miracle and force a brokered convention.

This is bad? Ok I could understand how Romney beating Michelle Bachman is bad, how beating Cain is bad, I can even understand how Romney beating Santorum or Gingrich is bad. Beating Obama is bad? Hillary beating Obama might not be wonderful but better than Obama.

I personally believe ANY repoublican, even RINOs beating Obama is not bad. There are always better possibilities, but get real, unless you want Obama to win, which I simply cannot understand how is anybody beating him bad?

Romney will lead the polls until he is safely nominated, and perhaps a bit beyond that. Then they will report the real poll numbers, or perhaps pad Obama’s lead a bit, in order to suppress turnout. Getting many of us to vote for Romney is hard enough. Show him losing, and even fewer will make the effort.

This poll has 2265 registered voters, not likely voters.

When further questioned, an additional 4% of the pubbies said they will definitely vote.

The real results of this poll are much worse for obama than the 2% that is indicated.

It is at least 6 and probably closer to 10%.

Gallup doesn't want to put down such a wide margin this early in the spring.

Like many here, I am not excited about Romney nor was he my choice. However I will back him fully to get rid of Obama. I think these numbers are very accurate for now. It is going to come down to about 10 states (unfortunately their is a built in bias in some states that we won’t be able to probably ever replace), however any swing voters are going to be looking at the pocket book, no way is there anything in Obama’s four years or upcoming years are good for him. Romney needs to attack Obama as hard as he went after Republican candidates. Gloves off, take no prisoners.

Gingrich's my guy, now that Santorum has dropped out, but any given GOP candidate will crush Obama, given that in 2008, he outspent McCain 3 to 1 and only beat him by 6% in the popular vote. The GOP nominee will probably beat Obama in campaign fund-raising this year, because of the defection of former Obama supporters who thought the guy was a moderate. Romney alone is out-raising Obama on Wall Street, and for a while, Mittens was sharing the stage with other GOP candidates who were also getting Wall Street money. An electoral vote landslide (>10% margin of victory in electoral votes) is a given - the only question is the magnitude. And that will depend on Romney choosing a solid conservative as veep.

You guys just don’t get it. We’re tired of RINOs, so we want to stay home, or write in someone.

When Obama wins, the GOP-e will get the message!

Right?

No Romney, no way. Just as SoConPubbie.
