I used to go to Bestbuy to try and get one of their
advertised specials for laptops...after going in and telling their
staff I wanted to buy a specific one, they had to go and
and they said they couldn’t find that one, but they had one
with a 100 dollar “package” i.e. antivirus/Microsoft stuff
added to it...I said that was “bait and switch” and I would never
buy anything from them. Then I started noticing how
ignorant most of the sales staff was about their products...
I hope they go out of business...actually it was probably
in their business plan anyway....build up clientele with
low prices, and then blast everyone who comes in with
so-so prices, bait and switch , then go bankrupt....

Newegg is hitting them hard. I bought a Lenovo laptop yesterday morning. A6 processor, 6650M crossfire video, 6G, 500G...$500.

They got a lot of attention for having the biggest crowds on Day After Thanksgiving, but when the final numbers came out, they’d lost money because people were only buying the heavily discounted sale items and weren’t buying any of the full price items the sales were supposed to bring them to.

........Best Buy is dying because of the Internet, just as Circuit City,CompUSA,Tower Records, etc, etc did. They’ll soon go the way of Blockbuster, for better or for worse.

I hope they don’t go - I can’t drive up to and walk into the internet when I need something TODAY - doesn’t happen often but it does happen.

My brother works at Best Buy and he refers to Best Buy as Amazon’s show room. He knows his future there is short ......

I had problems several times with them over just what you describe plus some other things.I took my complaint all the way to some VP at the home office, and after a long conversation with him, he basically said the I was right but that is just the way it is, take it or leave it.I went eslewhere for the computer and bought a large refridgerator from someone else, too.

I hope they belly up the whole chain, good riddance.

My college age grandson bought a video there and paid with his debit card in spite of the fact that he was only to use the card to withdraw cash from the bank to buy one tank of gas a week. Within 24 hours some Asian gal had a card with her name and his account number and bought jewelry and clothes at the GAP in Canada to the tune of almost $4,000. No more Best Buy or debit card!

The BB here opened up in a building that was previously occupied by Circuit City! Somewhat ironic .....

I get *tremendous* service at our local CompUSA in Brandon, FL. In fact, they are the only company I allow to send ads to my email box.

lots o good laptops in the $350-400 range. Look for 4gb memory and HDMI out. Intel processor too. I use AMD on desktops I build but I don’t understand how AMD rates its mobile processors

Best Buy makes their money on warranties and big box items...they are all phasing out their dvd/blu-ray/cd’s in the next few months. Only new releases will be available for 3 weeks and then taken off and put online.

I love shopping at stores and Best Buy used to be great. Too bad.

It’s Amazon. People look at stuff at Best Buy and buy it a Amazon. I bought a top of the line toaster oven at Best Buy. (Breville). They didn’t stock it, so I waited a week for in store pick up. When it came, the top coils did not work, it only toasted bread on the bottom, not the top. I returned it, for a full refund and comtemplated reordering, but besides the quality issue, the service was so poor, I gave up. I order one from Amazon, for the difference in price I could get a nice cutting board, including shipping and they delivered sooner than Best Buy promised and I didn’t have to drive 15 miles each way to pick it up.

I also got a Tom-Tom, next day delivery, for about $25 bucks lest Best Buy.

CompUSA hosed me on a rebate once. Never bought anything from them again.

Surprisingly, the store that hosed me was one of the few brick and mortar locations that the new owner kept. I still won’t shop there.

CC died as a redult of some horrendous decisions by its management.
Their fate was sealed long before the Great Recession ever began.........

What do you think of Sony Vaio’s? Ive never owned one before so I figured I’d try something new. I want a 14 inch screen, at least 640gb hard drive space, the one that has a 4gb of memory I can upgrade that pretty cheap and make it an 8gb..with an intel core i5 processor..just dont know how reliable Sony is..I checked out the HP’s yesterday and they just looked cheaply made. Dont want to buy something that I’ll end up having to return a month later

I heard that BB was going to go the way of Costco...ala membership/club.

They must have hired the exec from Radio Shack that thought up that failed plan for the 'Incredible Universe' chain.

Yeah, we just bought a new dryer at the Grafton store. Great sales people there for the most part. The customer service desk, not so much. The delivery guys were Muslim but really nice and set it up for me and trained me too. lol
