Many retailers are trying to get Massachusetts to tax Internet sales.Good thing I less than a half hour from two huge malls in New Hampshire...no sales tax.And on my tax return,on the line where you're required to report (and pay sales tax) on all such purchases I put ZERO.

And I sleep like a baby after having done so.

Best Buy is dying because of the Internet, just as Circuit City,CompUSA,Tower Records, etc, etc did. They'll soon go the way of Blockbuster, for better or for worse.

Same with Brooklyn center mn. Edina mn is a surprise. That’s rich snob area.

Don’t expect good deals. Rumor has it the good inventory is being moved to remaining stores.

Six or seven each in California, Illinois and Minnesota, compared to all others which had three or less.

Population might be part of it, as well as the continuing varied impact of this recession.

Six in comparatively small MN is surprising.

Is some competitor hitting them especially hard there, maybe Fry’s?

Easy to see the store closing in Vancouver, WA.
Drive across the Columbia river bridge into Portland, OR
There is zero sales tax in OR.

Ive been to that location, surprised its one of the ones closing. California sales tax, as you all know, is through the roof. I buy my electronic items on amazon.com and other sites that offer no sales tax, otherwise even if its a good deal the sales tax kills it

I was glad to see compusa go.

I'm just curious - why? For myself I welcome as many stores as possible. I can decide whether to frequent them or not but I have never wanted any company to go out of business.

I stopped shopping at Best Buy when the one in Dedham treated me horribly. I was in shock at how disrespectful the staff was - like they were getting paid to harass customers. Creepy. I really like Office Depot in Natick, they’re always great and impress me.

Would that be particularly noticable in Minnesota as opposed to.other states for some reason, maybe tax related?

Hells bells, I thought the 0bummer&HisRegimeFromHell spokesmoron said “we’re in a recovery”?

Virtual sales vs brick-and-mortar sales = no contest. I’m sure Border’s and Circuit City felt some of that pressure, among other reasons, too.

MN is where Best Buy started. Perhaps some of their oldest stores are there. I do notice that most of their closings seem to be in Rat areas, too.

This is consistent with the glowing recovery data on foreclosures (about to spike) while prices are still falling.

“There is nothing wrong with this thriving economy” , and “have a few more buds”.
