New York's Freedom Tower reaches 100 floors

The Freedom Tower, scheduled to be opened in 2013, is being built to a height of 1,776 feet (541 meters), which is a symbolic figure reminiscent of the US year of independence.
The glass walls have been built to the 70th floor while the concrete floors are poured to the 87th floor, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said on its website.
The building is planned to be the tallest in the United States when it is completed.

I find it no less than criminal that it has taken so long. The freakin’ Empire State Building was put up in less than TWO years (excavation began Jan. of ‘30; ribbon cutting May of ‘31)....over 80 years ago.

I agree. Aside from any reasonable environmental issues, this tower should have been built already.
The project had to wait for the Ground Zero mosque to open first...
Birj Dubai did that in about a month or two.
Discovery had a series about this constuction. Seemed everyone working there had lost someone on 9/11 or someone who helped build the Twin Towers. They had hoped to hit 100 floors last Sept 11 but the 2010-2011 winter screwed that up. We were living in Manhattan that winter and it seemed to snow every week.

For example, if this building were to be named the "Hugo Chavez Tower" but at the same time I could take my Leatherman on an airliner, on balance I might consider that a net plus.

Now we are “The Homeland” complete with “security” for it. Apparently, “The Fatherland” was already taken.
“Freedom Tower” will only be the nickname now. The Port Authority changed the official name to “One World Trade Center.” No Doubt the “One World” double entendre is on purpose.
Expect any references to is a “Freedom Tower” to disappear down the Memory Hole.

I agree. It is the result of victim committee carping, whining and political correctness. There is nothing “Freedom” about it.
