With Santorum Out, Evangelicals Edge Toward Romney, but Cautiously
NY Times ^ | April 11, 2012 | Erik Eckholm

Posted on 04/11/2012 1:09:52 PM PDT by C19fan

Rick Santorum had been the last best hope of Christian conservatives who opposed Mitt Romney, derided by many as a “Massachusetts moderate.” Now, facing the abrupt end of Mr. Santorum’s presidential bid, some evangelical leaders have begun to rally behind Mr. Romney, saying their shared hostility toward President Obama will be a powerful force for uniting the party in November.

In one sign of coalescing support from Christian conservatives, the National Organization for Marriage, a leading opponent of same-sex marriage, endorsed Mr. Romney on Wednesday morning. The group called Mr. Romney a “true champion” and said that President Obama “has done virtually everything in his power to undermine the institution of marriage.”

Sounds like Romney pulled off the lemon used car sale with some evangelical leaders. They are going thrown under the bus if Romney wins.

Wonder how big that check was. It also shows why I oppose "organizations". They're too easily bought.

There is no reason for evangelicals to support live born fetus killing Mr. Obama. In case some are not aware that is the bill he sponsored in Illinois legislature which allowed the abortionist doctor to kill the fetus if it was still alive outside the mother after the abortion.

“......some evangelical leaders have begun to rally behind Mr. Romney....”

I am not the least bit surprised.

Heck, maybe I should reconsider my principles too...being a god over my very own planet might be kinda cool.

What a COS! What is wrong with these people?!

Romney has about as much chance of winning as Al Gore does inventing the internet!

Oops, sorry C19fan. I clicked on over and read the whole NYSlimes article, and darn if I didn’t see that Gay Bauer and Dr. Dobson, I mean Tony Perkins, appear to have endorsed Romney already. Didn’t think they had the guts to admit their mistake with Saintorum.

My primary reason for voting will be to move Debbie Stabenow’s seat to the right.

National Organization for Marriage: Hypocrites. I intend on writing them a friendly, yet stern letter telling them the truth about Mitt Romey and “marriage”.

This is the clearest example I've seen in years that "Evangelical Social Conservatives" are not really conservatives. They believe they are. And, they believe they're doing the right thing.

But they are not reliable conservatives nor reliable Republicans.

They will vote for anyone that sings their song. Many have no beef with the Democrat party except homo marriage and abortion. In fact, some democrats have been elected with overt Socon support when they take up these two positions.

The GOP should quit pandering to this constituency. Let them vote their conscience and move on.

Tough choice, Romney v Obama.

Sorta like the choice between hanging or being shot.

Yes, I’m aware of that. But IMO, there’s also no reason for evangelicals to support a man who made it possible for women to prance into abortion clinics and have their babies killed for only $50.

There will be NO edging or turning to the side of this puking liberal for this Christian family. I will not under any circumstances cast a vote for this guy. He shares ZERO values that I have. We are Christian, Patriots, conservative, military supporting, anti-abortion, anti-homo marriage, and will not vote for a guy that is for all my againsts and againsts all of my fors.

There were a couple of jokes made on our local paper web site about the Obama negative ad against Romney’s negative ads in the primary.

Someone said that it wasn’t much of a choice, Magic Underwear or Magic Negro.

Someone else said that the choice was someone who thinks that he is God against someone who believes he will become a God.

I don’t usually approve of making fun of Romney’s religion, but I’m so fed up with his negative advertising that I think Romney deserves a little joking about his beliefs.
