Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich may not appear on the ballot for the June 26 Utah primary, after a $500 check the required filing fee bounced, an official said.
State election director Mark Thomas told ABC News that a $500 check given by the Gingrich campaign to secure his place on the Utah ballot bounced on March 27.
Our office immediately attempted to contact the campaign and the designated agent but no phone calls were returned, Thomas said. We also asked the state Republican Party to assist us, but they also could not get into communication with them, although I do not know how they attempted to contact them.

Utah? More dirty tricks from Romney?
Romney has cheated in state after state.
Mr. Santorum WON Iowa — but Romney stole the credit.
Well then, hang your hat on Romney.
Many of us aren’t conceding, we’re not suspending, we’re not giving up, nor giving in, not for anything, or anybody.
Newt is still in and he’s broke. I hang with Newt. We hang together or separately anyway.
Money bomb on Wednesday for Newt! Eagles up!
“the type of message that beats Obambi”
How about the type of message that reverses Obama’s dirty deeds? Have you listened to what Gingrich will do if elected president?
Forget about the “bounced check.” Newt is the one we need in the White House.
“Utah”
Great point. Hume was merciless last night against Newt. This morning Fox opened with Gingrich bouncing checks. The slaughter begins.
Maybe he could give them a piece of jewelry instead of a check?
Been there. Done that.
If this is Newt's fault and he's the one directly managing his money, then his campaign's in bigger trouble than we thought. OTH, he probably has sixteen different bank accounts and didn't transfer the money quick enough. Like I said, been there...done that.
Not at all. Santorum had a huge amount of credit for essentially tying.
The vote was less than 100 votes; everyone knew totals would change.
The conspiracy theory stuff here is just flat out wrong
It is time to bite the bullet, eat crow, accept the fact that Romney is going to be the GOP nominee.
Ergo, in November, it will be Romney or Obama.
Grin and bear it.
Or bear it.
The choice will be Romney or Obama.
Reality bites.
We have a good idea of what another 4 years of Obama will do to the Nation.
The main factor for Romney may be whom he selects as his VP.
Herman Cain has a good overview on F&F this morning that Romney should not or would not select: Bush, Palin, Gingrich, Christie. Instead, he would probably select from Rubio, West, Ryan.
Obambi sounds rather queer.
Agreed. Bouncing $500 checks is just pitiful.
If you have the money spend it on Tea Party folks running to clean out the congress. Newt is never ever going to get the nomination and your money might help get rid of Luger in the Senate or guys like Marchant in TX - old republicans that “bring home the bacon” when what we need is to clean out the pig pen.
Are you sure you can say that kind of stuff on FR?
Saw that. Cain did a really good job in that interview. I still think we are looking Rubio or Ryan - maybe Portman as some suggest.
“Utah? More dirty tricks from Romney?”
Really? Romney drained Newt’s account, that’s what you’re saying?
Whew. Someone needs to take a break.
Okay.
Go hang your hat on Romney then.
I’m stickin’ to Newt.
Agree with you 100% . But posting any supportive comments for Romney right now on FR, - well you may as well just be posting them to the Newt for Pres web site. Few here seem to be living in a reality world, still pinning their hopes on Newt, who has zero chance of winning the nomination.
On August 27th the GOP Convention in Tampa will be in full swing. The rest of us former Cain, Perry, Bachman, and Santorum supporters will be glued to the TV screen listening to guest speaker and after guest speaker giving awesome speeches about closing the door of opportunity to the shadow communist behind Obama like, Bill Ayers, George Soros, Cass Sunstein, Van Jones, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, and the rest of the radicals he surrounds himself with and admires. You can bet there will still be some diehards left on FR still be actively fighting against the Republican ticket with their continuous barrage of anti-Romney post.
He has some very bad and incompetent people in his campaign. Not a good reflection on his ‘hiring’ or ‘management’ abilities.
He’s never really had a career where he’s had to manage a large group. He’s been primarily an ‘intellectual’ thinker, and legislator with small staff, with very little career experience in the way of organizational responsibilities.
And you accept the word of the mormon cultists in Utah?
Utah is winner take all anyway, why should Gingrich even waste $500 to get on the ballot, when the cultists are just going to support one of their own with 95%+ numbers.
No it just shows that we have amazing powers of forgiveness, especially for those who help us to believe what we desperately wish to be true.
Go Newt! Stick it to the man! /half-joking, as I like Newt.
If you want to sing “Kumbaya” with the Republican Party:
This isn’t the place for Romneybots.
Yea, Romney is REALLY worried about Newt!
There’s a programming alert banner on Fox News’ website now, saying that Newt is appearing on America’s Newsroom at 9:10 AM.
Many of us need to take pause a bit. We’re all on the same side of the fence. The primaries have been fought fair and square (within the legal rules), and the people who are voting on the ground will pick the nominee.
My hoped for candidate did not run (Sarah Palin), I was never enthused with any of the remaining choices, because for me, they were all ‘default anti-Romney’ candidates. All with no previous track-records of wide conservative grass-roots support. Either one of them, however, could have singly defeated Romney head-to-head, but they both decided to stick it out for their own selfish reasons - which split the conservative vote and gave Romney the initial victories that has propelled him into the lead.
The “race” is over. Newt has already spent his “comebacks”. People already know who he is and what he’s said. There is no more room for any ‘new Newt’ upsurges. The ‘race’ is over!
People should not get so emotionally wrapped up in these candidates. Most of them all say things just to get elected. Contrast their records to what they are saying now. That goes for any of them.
Let it go!
We have to get on with beating Obama now.
We must turn the tide against liberalism before America
is swept away by their tsunami. Please do your part.
Support conservative candidates. Vote. Support Free Republic.
“This isnt the place for Romneybots.”
Are you saying free thought is discouraged and groupthink is required on this site?
FYI, Newt was just on FOX saying if Romney is the nominee, he will campaign for him, enthusiastically.
Do you own the site? Are you a moderator?
No? Then p!ss off.
That’s as dishonest as your boy Romney.
Utah??? Why would anyone ever suspect any funny business regarding “reports” unfavorable toward Newt from a hardcore Mitt State like UTAH?
Before you followed Dredge’s lead on posting this did you find any confirming data or actual names of UTAH officials making this “report”?

Cool! Me too!
Check out Publius321 post on this! I have mentioned this on four or five threads. It’s a great idea. Publius is recommending use of all means. He’s selling a baseball card on the internet! Will donate the proceeds! FUN!
Hope it shows up on the sidebar or on another post.
NO, mitt still tried claiming Iowa even after the final count.
Hes never really had a career where hes had to manage a large group. Hes been primarily an intellectual thinker, and legislator with small staff, with very little career experience in the way of organizational responsibilities.
**
Wha??? What do you call being Speaker of the House?
If that’s not “managing a large group,” I’m not sure what is.
You have to be kidding.
Get out of Mom’s basement and look around. It’s Santorum who suspended. Newt’s stickin’.
If you’re worried about Newt’s cash strap, hang with Romney.
I’m stickin’ with Newt.
the shadow communists behind Obama like, Bill Ayers, George Soros, Cass Sunstein, Van Jones, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, and the rest of the radicals he surrounds himself with and admires all laughing at the Republicans because Romney is a shadow communist.
Agreed. I can’t stand Romney, but I loathe and detest Obama and what he’s trying to accomplish. The lesser of two evils is what we face. It sucks, but that’s the reality of the situation :(
Why? He does have a lot of jewlery, doens’t he?
So this is what FR has come to? Anyone that jokes or says anything about Newt or Rick or Sarah or Hermann or anyone other than Romney, automatically they get branded as a Romney supporter?
That’s pathetic
For NAVY, I’m surprised at your colossal lack of vision for the big picture.
These thread trolls for Romney seem to think that ANY resistance going forward is ALL and ONLY about getting Newt the nomination.
Blue in the face we’ve said that should Newt ever win, lose or draw, the GOP-E deserves a protest at convention and Newt is just the man to roar in there and take it to them.
NEWT has not suspended, Santorum suspended.
Newt’s been our guy and there are states and delegates to be won for him, but more than that, there is a convention coming, and we get NOTHING by caving for Romney. No concessions, no nothing.
I’m IN until Newt’s OUT. Bring it on.
MONEY BOMB for Newt TODAY. Whoo HOO!!
Hey, thank you. I appreciate it.
If Romney LOSES 564 out of the 1,053 delegates from the remaining states, then he does not reach the magic 1,144 number. Challenges to the FL and AZ allocations could increase his deficit.
Based on how few times Romney won over 50% of the vote in previous states, if all the non-Romney voters consolidated around Newt now, Romney would lose 18 of the remaining 20 states.
Denying Romney the nomination is doable and is still TOTALLY in the hands of the voters, not the elites.
Santorum has already met with Romney and we will not see an exchange of Santorum’s delegates move over to Newt, like some here are fabricating.
It is only realistic, to understand that there is no way Newt can turn the race around. The votes will just not be there for him. He is also so strapped for money and support, that it in impossible for him to suddenly take charge of the race, or even force a contested convention.
It is what it is. The focus now needs to go in the direction of beating Obama, plain and simple. We need to get a positive attitude, or we lose. That, is also plain and simple.
I wonder who is writing the Rominy talking points memos we’re being spat upon with today? Do ya suppose it’s Rove? The subtlety factor with knife plunged into the back nature hints at Rove.
Primary voters in my state and 19 others have not spoken yet. It’s insulting for you to discredit our votes. Romney needs to win over half of the remaining delegates to secure the nomination. This is a very different race now. Just think what would happen if a new poll came out tomorrow showing Newt ahead of Romney. Everyone’s attitude would change. Therefore this is all still up to the voters. If they don’t throw their support to Romney, he can be denied the nomination and we will have a chance to nominate a BETTER candidate at the convention. If you want to focus on beating Obama, you should focus on getting a NON-ROMNEY as your nominee, which can be done simply if the voters who never had Romney as their first choice now consolidate around Newt. Romney is a general election loser-in-waiting.
geez - did you read the story, the state has been calling him to try and fix the problem. Maybe you should consider that this is an example of Newt’s management style. I remind people that his “friends” in the congress voted him out of the leadership for some reason. Those of us a long way from him don’t know why this very bright very articulte man seems to make more enemies than friends...inside his party.
Well then, while the rest of us are tuned in watching the exciting speeches given in Tampa in August, by people like Rubio, Palin, Newt, Christie, Cain, and the VP nominee, you may as well find out whats going on over on ABCs Dancing With The Stars. Because if you really believe Romney is a communist, then for you the election doesnt matter. Then again Ron Paul may hold his own convention, like he did last time. Always room for you in the crowd.
