Fox Confirms: Rick Santorum to suspend Presidential Campaign. Will post link and source when it hits Fox News Website.
An honorable guy who ran a mostly honorable campaign. wishing him nothing but the best and health for his family. Now let’s get on with defeating Obama - rally around Mitt no matter our differences the alternative is just too dangerous for our kids and grandkids!!
Will he release his delegates to Newt?
He really has had no platform..It’s time. I hope he phones up Newt AND I HOPE NEWT OR RICK PERRY IS VP.
Its over.... over for Rick over for Newt..., time to heal, chins up and move towards the objective... take down the criminal in chief!
5th thread. Can we have more?
Well, Romeny you had better listen to us and you had better convince me to come out and vote for you and NOT Obama. To date you HAVE NOT convinced me that your past policy decisions are that much different than Obama's. Start with backing away from RomneyCare. Also you had better have a damn fine excuse WHY YOUR STAFFERS ADVISED OBAMA DOZENS OF TIMES YOU SO-AND-SO!!!! GRRRRRRR!
Well, that seals it: Romney wins. There’s just no way Newt could mount another comeback this late in the game.
Thanks for nothing, Rick. I see we’ve already got Romneybots swooping in here to rally the sheep.
AH HAH!... Now we’ll find out who republicans generally are..
RINOs for a liberal from Massachusetts... -OR-
a conservative more or less from Georgia..
Where will Santos votes go.. to Willard or to Newt..
I fear the republican party is basically RINOs..
I'm confiscating your pre-millenium Freeper card! ;)
I’ve seen in one minute three posters on here and other threads who I have hardly ever seen post since this campaign started and since Romney bots were getting banned, now all of a sudden it is the usual well done Rick very good on you lets unite to take down obama.
Well expect more Romney bots to jump on here now who have been waiting every day to tell us to unite and get behind their RINO
Anyways PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE forgive me for being 40 seconds or so past the authorized posting time from the first thread.
lets get behind the whiter obama, you mean, lets forget how he attacked Newt with disgusting lies , or his checks tom planned parenthood, or his pro homo agenda, or his big Govt health care.
He treated the base like crap, the Romney bots have been waiting for some time since they saw some of their fellow RINO’s get banned and now they are coming on here saying unite to beat obama, lets get behind their guy.
Well down here we don’t have short memories and let this go to a brokered convention
Unlikely. Santorum has always been a big supporter of Mit Romney. Rick Santorum had spent more on ads against Newt than he did against Romney and there's been a reason for this. Rick Santorum's mission is accomplished he helped Mittens win by being the spoiler and splitting the conservative ticket. It's likely he'll endorse Romney and probably even claim that Mitt Romney is the 'real conservative' and the only 'conservative' that can beat Obama and perhaps release those delegates to Mitt Romney.
Yes, prayers up for Rick and his family.
This really isn’t a surprise, though.
Amen!!!
I think you should give Santorum some slack. His young daughter Bella just came home from the hospital today, and she has a serious genetic illness. This is one time where a politician is probably not lying when they say they want to spend more time with their family.
Santorum really did not have the numbers to win anyway after losing Illinois and then Wisconsin. And I am no Romneybot, I volunteered on Santorum’s campaign in Illinois.
Huge surprise to me. Not that I blame him.
He can add just like anyone...except maybe some with a public school education.
I wish him well.
Doubtful... very doubtful. Rick Santorum has always been a supporter of Mitt Romney. If anything, he's on the phone with Mittens proclaiming "mission accomplished, now what's in it for me?" Or something like that.
Look for Rick Santorum to be endorsing Romney as he has done before.
Knock yourself out. I don’t campaign for and make nice with liberals.
You got what you want Party boys/liberals, now win without ten percent of the bases vote.
I’ll say it once again, as have others.
This is the worst Republican primary crack-up I’ve seen in my lifetime.
We’ve got Jimmy Carter to the “X” in the White House now, and we can’t mount one ding-bat that doesn’t have at least a billionaire’s wife’s level of baggage headed for ten weeks in Europe.
Right now we’ve got the RNC practicing saying “You’re welcome” in 72 different languages, so that when they say it to Obama in November, they can appear multi-cultural.
God save the Republic, because the DNC and the RNC have no plans of doing it.
Good for you ! You walked the walk.
So many on here just want to complain about every candidate and then gripe at who we have left.
We had a perfect candidate ... Rick Perry. But he was met with nothing but sneers, derision and LIES on this site
And then people whine because they don’t have a good candidate.
God bless Rick and his family. I wish them well.
Could you be any more insensitive to the fact that his young daughter was just released from the hospital today? Long term, her prognosis is not good, as she has already beaten the odds by surviving to age three (I think she is three).
LOL! Interesting that you conceding this thing so quickly to Romney. The chances of Romney listening to conservatives is far less than the chances that Newt still has a chance to win.
Rick Santorum has always been for Romney. Santorum referred to Romney as a "real conservative". That's the last thing I would want "Romeny" to listen to.
I want to believe it’s about Bella, I really do, but I know Rick. He probably got cold feet about his poll numbers in PA and dropped out to try and save his career.
Seeing as he endorsed Arlen Specter, and Romney in 2008, I have a funny feeling he’ll have no trouble endorsing Romney again.
God Bless you, Rick. You get it one HELL of a good run... far beyond expectations.
Much sadness................
Ditto.
get=gave
Somehow, when I heard this, this song was the first thing that occurred to me.
Rick Santorum's daughter was never mentioned in my post. Santorum's endorsement of Romney is what kept me from trusting him. I will NOT shut up about a lRINO supporting candidate because his daughter happens to have been sick long before he decided to enter the race. That's something a liberal would expect.
Did you vote for Clinton because he had a homely daughter? If not, are you also insensitive?
Oh, no, my mouth just dropped and my heart nearly stopped. I just always assumed his delegates would go to Newt. I can’t believe I was that wrong... or maybe you are wrong. I hope hope hope.
He split the conservative vote, made a path for Romney, and has done his work for the party. And then had to make it all sound holy... it’s disgusting.
“Interesting that you conceding this thing so quickly to Romney.”
I have no idea what you are talking about. Whatever!
Unfortunately, neither Newt nor Rick speak of uniting to mount a campaign to upset the convention and the RINO inevitability train on which we’re being loaded.
Our own have apparently ceded and will not lead a rebellion.
I am gravely disappointed.
I must have missed the Newt press conference you saw saying Newt suspended his campaign... It's over for Rick, Newt is headed to Tampa...
I was on Newt’s Florida consulting team and I don’t think we should expect any big surprise at the convention here in Tampa. Sadly. I would have liked it to have been Newt...or Santorum, but I’m one of those ABO-ers out there! With Ginsburg having Pancreatic cancer and the mortality rates associated with that disease, the stakes are too high to sit home on Election Day.
I’m not a Romneyiac, but I’ll be damned if I’ll sit home and not at least fight! The country is too damned important!
I agree, DoughtyOne. The worst Republican primary in my lifetime also. I cannot believe we could not come up with a viable candidate.
Thank you for your post. I only gave a few half-days of volunteering. Not that it mattered since Romney was blasting negative ads at a 20-1 ratio in Chicago.
It was almost so sad it was funny. When I would reach a Romney supported by telephone, about half said they would not vote for Santorum because he was too conservative (and some would add too conservative means he couldn’t beat Obama) and the other half said they wouldn’t vote for Santorum because Santorum was too liberal (usually on fiscal issues).
I would try to ask them how Romney care is fiscally conservative (or conservative in any way). Santorum is not perfect (I think no one is perfect, so I would disagree with you here as I think Perry has problems too, although Perry is far better than Romney too), but people are going to vote for a real flaming liberal just because Santorum is not 100% conservative.
It was no use. Even if I could convince people (and most I could not as their minds were made up) there are millions of liberals in Illinois.
But you can see how money works in politics. Romney’s two messages completely contradicted themselves (Santorum is too conservative; Santorum is too liberal), and a majority of voters fell for it. The fix is in. The big moneyed Wall Street hedge fund guys went for Romney, the GOP establishment went for Romney, and the voters (or the majority of them) did what they were told by the elite.
Now I will have to see if Romney tacks even farther left and who he picks for VP. If he moves left and picks a liberal for Vice President I will have to sit this election out (for President anyway). If not, I may vote for him while holding my nose. Urgh, not looking forward to that, but definitely not looking forward to Obama getting re-elected either.
I don’t know. Dole/Kemp was pretty lethargic. That was my second presidential and third muni race. This is pretty close though!
He exited the race at least partially because of his sick daughter. You suggested he is leaving the race so he can ask Romney “what’s in it for me”?
That is why your post was insensitive.
He entered the race with a sick daughter. His daughter has nothing to do with politics and to use her as a political pawn to me is insensitive.
Santorum gave a wonderful upbeat speech. He is a great guy. He promised to continue to fight to defeat BO. We all have to do that. Swallow disappointment and back our GOP candidate to defeat the disaster in the White House.
Thanks for your work in Florida, where Gingrich was the main Romney challenger.
I agree that the Supreme Court is overlooked by many and appointing justices probably is the single most important power a President has. After all, repealing all of Obamacare via Congress will be very hard because we will need 60 votes in the Senate to stop a filibuster (we only have 47 now, and we will not pick up 13 seats even in the best of circumstances this November). However, the Supreme Court may uphold the constitution and get rid of Obamacare, and is our best hope.
Unfortunately Romney has a history of appointing liberals, and pro-choicers while governor, including after his pro-life conversion. If Romney does not go even further left as his adviser’s Etch-a-sketch comments suggests, and if he picks someone fairly conservative for VP, then I will probably vote for him, but if not I will not vote for someone who could give us the next David Souter (or the numberous other GOP liberal Supreme Court picks).
And then accept the VP nod.
