The crazed gunman who wounded four Brooklyn cops was reaching for another rifle loaded with more powerful, armor-piercing bullets to inflict deadly injuries just before he was stopped, officials said yesterday.
If he would have been able to grab that gun, this would have been a lot more tragic. It would have been in Gods hands, said a police official familiar with the case.
Its apparent [the suspect] wanted to shoot it out with cops and go out in a blaze of glory.
Cops said the ammo from suspect Nakwon Foxworths sawed-off military assault weapon would have easily pierced the Kevlar shield that hero Detective Kenneth Ayala used to protect his comrades and himself from the perps initial 12-bullet barrage from a 9mm revolver.
The more powerful bullets also would have gone through the officers vests, police said.

This is crazy talk. Off the charts. .223AP???
Only cops should have cop killer bullets, silly! <./sarc>
Just wait 'til the ACLU finds out NYPD policy is to rely on God.
If ignorance were an energy source, this passage could power a city of 100,000 people for a year.
They not only never seem to know what they're talking about, but they clearly don't care.
And the race of Nakwon Foxworth isssssssssssssssssssssss . ??????
Not disclosed.
Why would anybody want to saw off a perfectly good military assault weapon?.............
Cops are immune to lesser bullets.
Lesser rounds aren’t “cop killers” so laugh at someone next time they tell you a cop was killed by 9mm. “Ha! That can’t happen! It’s not a ‘cop killing’ round!”
Well there actually are 9mm revolvers but I have never heard of a 12 shot one.
Typically, any high powered rifle will easily penetrate regular vests tho there are plenty which will take a .223 or Russian 7.62X39. I bet these cops had them too.
s&w, ruger and taurus all make 9mm revolvers.
How do the bullets know that they are only supposed to kill cops?
THEY DON'T, which is why UN Troops, and .GOV types should be the only ones that can have them....thilly! <./off Bill Cosby imitation>
note to self, read article, THEN comment..
later in the article: “Fortunately for them all, Foxworth, 33, only managed to fire his semiautomatic”
HOW does one "saw off" a "military assault weapon"? Assuming the media moron is referencing a modern battle rifle, sawing it off would have the effect of disabling the gas system. It would be a single shot repeater. Not too scary. Having shortened a modern battle rifle, I can assure the media that it is an involved and exacting task not accomplished without considerable knowledge, skill and specialized tools. Nitwit urban playaz wouldn't have the faintest idea how to begin.
The only way you get 12 rounds out of a 9mm revolver in the initial volley is by having quick change cylinders. I doubt it was a revolver. I am even more sceptical of the accuracy of the reporter, he is a loose cannon and does not know it. (Useful Idiot)
Whew! I’m glad my rifle’s chambered for 5.56! I’d hate for it to be mistaken for the nasty stuff. After all, it’s NATO approved!
He stumbled into his bedroom to try to retrieve the assault rifle but never got to it, they said.
What an idiot reporter. The perp could not fire his semi-auto (rifle) without being able to retrieve it. A semi-auto is NOT a revolver. Reporter need a little education.
Typical media BULLSHIT.
.223 is not armor piercing ammunition
a ballistic vest is not armored.
any bullet that kills an officer is a cop killer bullet and that could be the smallest caliber made.
Virtually any hunting rifle cartridge will penetrate a vest.
The American Media is very dishonest.
If Barack Obama had fathered a son, he would have looked like Nakwon Foxworth:

Nakwon Foxworth, 33, had previously been convicted of attempted murder as a juvenile and landed two years behind bars. He was later arrested for robbery and weapons possession, and did 10 more years. He was released in July 2009.
The second pistol found was a High Standard Sentinel 9-shot .22 LR revolver with altered serial number. (10 years in Club Fed for a defaced serial number or markings.)
The third was a sawed-off Ruger Mini-14 .223 rifle. (10 years in Club Fed for a sawed-off barreled rifle with over all length of less than 26 inches.)
I don't know if the Feds have a “3 Strikes Law”, but Nakwon may have qualified for a life sentence without parole as a habitual criminal.
***Only cops should have cop killer bullets, silly! <./sarc>***
Citizens should ONLY be allowed to own powder puff rounds like the .222 Rem and .222 Rem Mag.
Or the .22-250!
sarc/off
“s&w, ruger and taurus all make 9mm revolvers.”
true, but they are as common as a flintlock. Idiots trying to scare people and write whatever they want. A barrage of 12 rounds.
***Well there actually are 9mm revolvers***
Ruger made some back in the 1980s.
they must mean SS-109 green tip?
The media generally relies on the police for their gun info. LOL, anyone knows the police are experts on guns and ammo and.... Ya know they’re more professional...LOL.
.223 FMJ at under a 100 yards will penetrate most kevlar only jackets (IIA or III). Balistic plates will stop it, but the kevlar basically will not stop projectiles at 2000FPS. Works good on 1000 fps and under pistol rounds.
Here is a well done test: http://www.theboxotruth.com/docs/bot24.htm
Quote: “I’ve said it before.....rifles are rifles and pistols are pistols.”
***A semi-auto is NOT a revolver.***
I beg to differ with you. The British built one on a Webley-Fosbery frame. You can see Sean Connery use it in ZARDOZ.
Also, around 1970, some publishers released a Zane Grey novel, NEVADA. The cover art showed a cowboy pulling and firing to his left, two Colt Navy revolvers. You know he was firing fast as the air was full of ejecting cases. ;-D
Based on the picture here, it’s a Browning BDM, not a Hi-Power.
I love the Ruger with the pistol grip and huge scope, LOL.
It was a semi-automatic revolver.
Have you ever “seen” a semi-auto revolver?
NO, I did not think so.
I think there is a setting....
Setting 1 - Paper Targets
Setting 2 - People
Setting 3 - Cops
Setting 4 - Zombies
Setting 5 - Aircraft
Setting 6 - Stealth Aircraft
Setting 7 - Tanks
Setting 8 - Trains
Setting 9 - City Blocks
Setting 10 - Major Metropolitan Areas
Their bullets must have been on setting 3.
Have to watch out for those 9mm revolvers too:)
That thing LOOKS deadly. /s
Thanks for clarifying what the (useful idiot) “reporter” really missed by a country mile.
Where do they get people like the “reporter” who wrote this.
The only thing worse than inaccurate and non-factual reporting is freeper self-appointed experts swearing that there are no such thing as:
sawed off functioning semi-auto rifles
semi-auto revolvers
9mm revolvers
Just another dumbass alleged “journalist” who wouldn’t know a handgun from a howitzer and damn sure doesn’t know that those rounds are specified by the GENEVA CONVENTION. Unless a major structure is hit, these full metal jacket rounds are far more apt to penetrate and pass through, leaving a cleaner, less devastating injury than soft-nose projectiles, giving those wounded by them a far better chance of survival.
My God, WHERE DO THESE ALLEGED NEWSPAPERS GET THESE UNINFORMED AND IGNORANT MORONS? And could those hiring practices explain the growth of the famed Freeper Media Dinosaur Deathwatch List?
Or the 25-06.
Wow!!
City folk. The closest most of them ever come to a gun is when a transit cop gets on the crosstown bus.
I own and love to shoot a Remington XP-100 221 Fireball. Purchased it many years ago. What is it? Rifle or Pistol. I guess legally it is a pistol, even though it is a 600 Remington action with a short barrel and pistol stock.
That’s a much better photo than what I saw. You’re correct — it’s a Browning BDM and not a Browning Hi-Power. Good eye. One thing for sure though, it isn’t a revolver!
Good luck hitting the broad side of a barn with one of those Mini-14’s. Sawed off even worse.
About a dozen years ago, I was in the local gun shop buying some deer slugs for hunting season that was coming up in a few weeks.
I walked by a display of military surplus .223AP at $2 per box (of 20). Needless to say, I saw an opportunity for target practice rounds, so I bought $50 worth. They do make good cheap practice rounds. The normal hunding rounds are in the ouder of $25 for a box of 20, so you don’t want to waste too many of those.

A 12 shot 9mm revolver, Wow. Un-freaking believable!....Gotta get me one of those! /s
.357 caliber is 9mm.
.
The crazed gunman, Nakwon Foxworth, used the common, easily obtained, Webley-Fosbery, 9mm semi-automatic revolver, popular with criminals and gang-bangers, to unleash a hellstorm of 12 rounds of the deadly cop-killer hollowpoint bullets.
Think I can get a job at the NY Post?
Well to be nit-picky, 9mm bullets are typically .355.
